Also, since I was thinking of Twilight Princess, I was just thinking of how superficial the whole "cycle" people talk about is aka "all the haters of this game will call it the best thing ever a few years down the line". The only time this really happens is if the aspect that got hated on was superficial to begin with. For example, the Wind Waker got overly hated on because of its graphical style. It was released in an era where "edgy" was what was popular, and people had their expectations set based on the Spaceworld demo for the Gamecube. The Wind Waker does have its legitimate criticisms, but the graphical style was definitely not one of them as it is now seen as a timeless style. So once people got past the whole "oh this is kiddy graphics" they were able to see the game for what it was and approach it with a better mindset. Similarly, Twilight Princess was the game that was set to "save LoZ" and "the true sequel to OoT" because Wind Waker allegedly tanked its popularity, so anyone who said it was anything other than a "perfect game" got dunked on. Now of course, with time, people have come to approach it with a better mindset and can agree it has its flaws. The people who didn't like Skyward Sword back then still don't like it for the same reasons: the motion controls and the excessive linearity of the game to name a few. So, you know, the cycle is only true if the things you disliked about the game weren't flaws that actually affect your experience with the game.
People who say people in the past had better "fandom etiquette" were simply not on the internet enough which, good for them truly. People back then were fucking brutal man.

The topic is not forgetting to forget, the luxury of memory has become a busy staircase, every time you open it, you close it, so you learn to live in the text, half an eye on tomorrow and a half an eye that is still hanging at a closed door, they ask us if you will see new colors, maybe, but the new colors hurt because they remind you of what went
The voices have changed, the names have been erased, the places have become pictures, and no one is talking about everyone, I ask now how are you?
So you reply to them, okay, because there is no word to explain that you are tired, but complete and that you are lost, but not dead
Maybe after years we talk about it quietly, not because it's light, but because we're tired, we remove it every day, so we put it on the side and continue

I know the reason a "Ganondorfs meet" AU doesn't exist primarily because most people don't really care to explore his character in the way most of these Meets AUs do, but I do think his case would be a lot more compelling because in the majority of instances he is the same person. He would basically be meeting himself in a different "what-if" scenario, how things would go if he succeeded, if he failed, if he was caught before he could even do anything, and I think it would cause him to spiral into an existential crisis that could end up with him fistfighting himself.
call me terminally academia-brained but i do think a lot of the fun of character analysis is figuring out how to build a compelling argument for a particular reading using lines of evidence from canon as well as meta/intertextual support
and you could say that what i’m saying here is basically “a lot of the fun of doing character analysis is doing character analysis” but let’s be real a lot of fandom character analysis is pretty heavily vibes-based. and i think that’s where i really chafe up against the traditional thought-terminating fandom attitude of like, everyone’s opinions hold equal weight and any interrogation of that is inherently hostile. because i think it’s fascinating to dig into where others are coming from in terms of their views on characters or dynamics or whatever, especially when they differ significantly from more commonly expressed views, and part of that digging is asking people okay what parts of canon are you drawing from to support your opinion? what parts of canon are you disregarding or downplaying? how does this argument hold up in the light of how race, gender, class, ability, etc. operate both in the piece’s in-fiction and real world contexts?

A fellow Town of Salem fan! I have a funny story about when I used to play it: in the lobby when you would choose a name for your character, I would pick someone else's username just to fuck with them, which resulted in some funny stuff. People confused in their death notes when they died, for example, but once I took the name of the serial killer and was their first victim 😂
OMG ANOTHER TOWN OF SALEM PLAYER! It's crazy that I never thought of doing that, because I am sure I have well over a thousand hours logged into the game 😂 The serial killer's pettiness was probably a run of the mill reaction to that strategy :P My strategy was to play a bit. My favorite bit was tea-sipping Ganondorf, who was a very polite version of Ganondorf. Now that would either put a big red target on my back or would completely ward off suspicion, like it would be FAR too ironic for Ganondorf to be the Godfather right? (I was the Godfather). The run that got me mass reported was after a string of games where I was on a pretty long winning streak. I was in a game with a bunch of other players that I had already played with previously, and I was the veteran. All I did on the first day was type *sips tea*, and then I had a nagging suspicion that I would be visited that night, so I set my shotgun on. When I tell you half the town visited 😂 The arsonist, the serial killer, the mafioso, the framer (which framer why are you visiting me if you're sending the mafioso to KILL ME-), a doctor, a bodyguard, and an investigator. So I shot half the town and won the game and people acussed me of cheating. NOT MY FAULT YOU'RE ALL HATERS-
My other fun memory was pissing off a jailer that kept jailing me but wouldn't kill me because they hated my living guts so we just spent evenings ragebaiting each other :)
Anyways, fun game. It was the fun kind of ragebaiting I must say 😏
