Sometimes, fanfiction is carefully plotted out stories, with plot points and call backs and themes that all tie it up in a meaningful and exciting way.
And sometimes fanfiction is, ‘Watch me do a fucking KICK FLIP off this cool sentence!! Also here's some sex'
Chapter 9 - Celebration, Nail Polish, and a Corpse
Summary: They keep their marriage small and private, and their wedding night is celebrated in the best possible way. There is no time for a honeymoon; everyday life is calling, and the two girls meet two very different and interesting women.
You know what? Fuck it I'm adding more context. Sesame Street has talked about the topic of death more than once and it's done with such gentle carefulness without watering down or censoring the heaviness of the situations. It treats heavy subject matter with respect and dignity and has been for DECADES.
From the early 1980s:
To 2025:
Hell, they even cover the devastating heaviness of MASS SHOOTINGS without censoring or watering anything down.
They've been doing this for YEARS, and it's ALWAYS handled with dignity, respect, seriousness, understanding, and love.
Whenever I see people censoring words because it "might offend" someone or the big ad companies that are currently trying to run everything? I just want to say to them: "What? Is Sesame Street too mature for you?" Because really...what the hell are we doing.
I'm back with even more examples! Sesame Street once again to this day is out here handling extremely difficult subject matter with incredible care and respect. "We can't let kids learn about uncomfortable things!" Oh, really now? Even though they're things that happen in everyday life that they'll face one day at some point anyway? Interesting. Let's see what else this show has covered that people (for some reason) think should be avoided and hidden. Here's more on death of loved ones and greif:
Or how about when someone is put into the foster care system because their home isn't safe anymore and their needs aren't being met?
Maybe some discussions about group therapy/getting help and support?
Hey look! Here's a segment about gender expression vs taught expectation, including unlearning harmful biases and what to do when you hurt someone on accident because you didn't know it was wrong!
Look! The topic of race and diversity! The importance of unity and equity!
They even also have a more allegorical take on discrimination and being looked down on for who you are, featuring Big Bird. The conflict is about how he's not being let into a club because the one bird running the club personally decided he didn't want someone like Big Bird there.
Big Bird goes out of his way to keep changing parts of himself in order to "prove" he can fit into this club if he just changed enough. The truth comes out though, and there's nothing he can do to gain the approval of that bird. He will never be good enough in his eyes, and Big Bird starts to hate himself. His real friends see this finally put their feet down, emphasizing that you should never change yourself just to fit into one singular narrow idea someone else has.
There's A LOT of different situations this can be an allegory for. Racism, sexism, homophobia, basically ANY form of exclusion is put on full blast in this 15 minute clip. Sesame Street can be both blunt and allegorical when approaching difficult topics, and it NEVER misses or looses the point.
It does an exceptional job in both styles of representation WITHOUT watering anything down. The more sanitized everything gets, the more radical Sesame Street is suddenly considered, hence why so many "particular groups" want it gone. Hmmm! I can only imagine why that could be, in this current political climate! (I'm being sarcastic)
When Sesame Street is suddenly labeled as "questionable" or "politically/agenda motivated" content...it says A LOT about where we currently are and who gets to decide what's "best" for kids or not. Don't fall for the censorship and topic-dodging excuses that are covered by the "But think of the children!!!" movement. Never fall for it, because you know which side you're on if you do.
Sesame Street proves kids can be taught and trusted with learning about these topics when it's handled with the right amount of understanding and care. It shows what all this "controversy" is all really about. What it's always been about, actually.
Don't fall for it, always side with Sesame Street.

I am once again begging people to realize that AI checker doesn’t work. it’s never worked. it’s notoriously known to have flagged human-made works as AI and AI-generated works as human-made. and by feeding it people’s works, you are feeding more works to AI, because apparently the machine itself is AI.
the only thing AI checker does is harm genuine artists and people in general too.
One spot available again at European Fic Writers' Retreat (Belgium)
Dear Fic Writers! (Sherlock fandom and beyond!)
Life is unpredictable, and plans change sometimes! Last week, we've had to move the retreat from Germany to Belgium because of water damage (see this post) and now, due to more unforeseen circumstances, one participant has had to cancel, meaning that one spot has become available!
Here's all the info:
The European Fic Writers Retreat is taking place in Belgium from 13-16 August 2026.
Here are the details:
-Arrival from 3.30pm on 13 August (Thursday).
-Checkout at noon on 16 August (Sunday).
-Special discount price: 250 euros, to be transferred directly to the original participant. This includes accommodation (single room) and food (which we'll still have to cook ourselves, however).
Activities
There will be 3 writing/fandom workshops/activities each day. The rest of the time is for writing, hanging out and making new fandom friends.
Also there will be daily trips to the supermarket to get all the food we need. :)
There are currently 8 participants.
Venue
The accommodation has 8 bedrooms, several large common rooms, and a garden.
The location is in the very south-eastern part of Belgium. You have to arrange your own transport there, although there will likely be the possibility of getting a ride from a nearby city to the accommodation, as a couple of participants are travelling by car and are willing to pick up others.
Organisation
Be aware that this retreat isn't anything fancy or well-organised; it's just me (@shirleycarlton) having made a reservation for a large holiday house in hopes of finding enough fellow fanfic (British M/M slash) writers, who would like to attend and spend some quality time together.
Originally, this concept arose from the Sherlock fandom, and I (Shirley) personally exclusively write johnlock. However, a lot of Sherlock writers have (understandably) moved on to other fandoms, so whether you're currently into Good Omens, LOTR, James Bond, Our Flag Means Death, or RWRB, it's all fine, as John Watson would say. :)

It's actually kind of ridiculous that Tumblr even still exists, when you think about it. Like it's been almost a decade since we were relevant and that's a long time on the Internet. Imagine if you found an isolated valley and it was populated by ancient Roman colonae still living as they did thousands of years ago; or if you found a herd of mastodons living on a remote island.
This is the only internet biome where I can survive, it has all the things I need for sustenance and enrichment. I have bonded with my pack mates. I have an established den, and participate in the customs and holidays.

Currently in New Jersey- family thing, the rest of family is sleeping in a very nice modern hotel room, lovely a/c and no one needs anything from me, LOL.
Recovering from Father's Day - my father passed away in 2017, and we had been estranged for years - I don't miss him really, I miss the idea of him, of the kind of relationship I might have had with him if things had been different- but he is the reason I try to make sure my kids know I'm always there for them, even as they drive me a bit nutty(ier than I already am). So - this story I'm sharing was the one time I did the NaNoWriMo - 50,000 words in a month - basically I wrote in three weeks, and had most of it at least sketched out months before I wrote it which is not my normal practice.
This has more than usual angst, but of course with a happy ending, as always. <3

NJM, Thank you for pointing me here; I don't know how I missed it in 2018. (Well, I do know, but it seems a long time ago now.) Thank you for writing and highlighting this: I already love reading it, whether I am commenting or mutely racing to the next chapter. 🤍
I'll highlight Holy Wine (13/13 ch., 37K words). This is one of my top favorites of my stories, honestly.
Summary: After Sherlock fails to amaze and delight John at the Landmark, he learns that John’s cut contacts and left London. Now he has to start his life over, without the man he gave up everything to save.
Maybe Holy Wine gets less love because it's Sherlock's version of the events of A Case of You; but Holy Wine stands on its own, I shed blood to make sure of it ;)
Tagging a few under the cut and wishing I could tag a few hundred:
I wrote a new uni!lock fic in the Reluctant Topping series!
(And made another moodboard, yay! Starting to love those.)

Chemistry student Sherlock Holmes tries to seduce resident doctor John Watson for a one-night-stand, which initially fails, but eventually he ends up getting more than he bargained for.
Rating: Explicit
Length: 7522 words
Relationship: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Tags: John’s first time, bottomlock, unilock, alternative first meeting, happy ending
With many thanks to my wonderful betas @blogstandbygo and @mama-orion!
By the way I think it's really ironic that this was the fic I entered in the self-rec list for the European Fic Writers Retreat I'm organising, when I've just had to rebook said retreat to a whole new venue because the original place has recently suffered such extensive water damage that repairs will probably not be finished on time for the retreat.
... just like John Watson's halls of residence in this unilock ficlet I wrote (which of course leads to him sharing a room with Sherlock, and other things happening from there).
Thankfully the new venue has the same number of bedrooms, LOL.

Jim works on getting used to being in Sherlock's body, and is thwarted in his first stage in his plan.
Jim tried to take another step towards them to look more closely at his own body, but stumbled. Damn. The man’s legs were miles long – this would take some getting used to. And his ribs hurt. Ow.
