Sew What?!

Sew What?! targets youth for whom significant barriers to participation in the arts are a consistent reality. This hands-on program acts as a non-traditional catalyst helping to cultivate skills required to pursue a fashion-focused career. The participating youth will develop a sense of where their skills might best be utilized in the fashion world: clothing design, illustration, construction, merchandising, textile design and show production. The program culminates in a fashion show. Art Starts and Carleen Robinson, Program Manager are extremely excited to offer this program to a talented group of young people who would not normally have this opportunity. In addition to class work, the group will be exposed to various elements of the industry through field trips, interactive presentations and guest speakers from within the industry. Sew What?! was generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Art Starts is a charitable, not-for-profit organization that uses the arts as a vehicle to encourage social change in Toronto’s underserved neighbourhoods.
