*  both men and women were spoken to by God and given certain commands

These verses tell us that there was a differentiation between male and female humans at creation.There is no differentiation, however, in the status and purpose of men and women. According to Genesis 1, men and women are equal in being and equal in function. Both are commanded to procreate, and to rule over God’s created earth and the animals as his image bearers and regents. Note that there is no indication that either men or women have a greater or lesser responsibility in obeying these commands. Note also that, while men and women are commanded to rule animals, nowhere in this chapter, or the next, does it say that some humans were to rule other humans. Thus, according to Genesis 1, men and women are also equal in authority.

As if it were not enough to say “father”. For, alas!, friends, some of us are such fathers that our children do not find much comfort in us and it is no kind thing to have to say “God is your Father”. I remember old Dr. Young telling me how once he had tried to convert a lady by saying to her: “Remember that God is your Father,” and she said, “Don’t utter the word to me; it is a horror to me!” Now, we are poor fathers the best of us, and it is as if the Lord felt that He must say something more lest their low idea of a father might not be enough to represent the Father- His Father- to them, and therefore, He says, “I go up to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.” Oh yet, whatever word falls short, the word “God” fills it up and goes beyond it into infinitude!

We must talk of light when we mean something infinitely better than light, but of which light is the garment or the natural outcome.

To believe that husbands function as representatives of their wives before God is to believe that women need a mediator other than Christ- and that is the very heresy that sparked the Protestant Reformation.

In 1 Peter 3:7, Peter also makes the point that women are weaker than men. Women were greatly disadvantaged in Greco-Roman society. They had considerably less privileges and rights than men. Women are also, usually, physically weaker than men. Peter wanted husbands to acknowledge and be considerate of the more vulnerable situation of their wives – their “vessels” – so that they would take care not to exploit them (cf. 1 Thess. 4:3-6).[5] Many times, people in positions of privilege are not fully aware of the disadvantages of those in weaker positions. Instead of exploitation, Peter wanted husbands to treat their wives with respect and even honour.

Gnostic works present Eve in a very different light to how the Bible presents her...Eve is... depicted as superior to Adam, as preceding him, or as giving life to him in some way...plausibility that 1 Timothy 2:13-14 was written to correct a faulty understanding that Eve was created first and that she was neither deceived nor a sinner.
