The night was significantly warm. It had been warmer than usual during the day, and then the clouds rolled in as the sun went down and all the residual heat was trapped in Hillsboro. The warmth would’ve been enjoyable, if the events of that day had been enjoyable. But they were far from it.

Matthew was killed.

He was supposed to go and hang out with Matthew. But before he left, Kiana came to the apartment. The girl was in tears, and could barely tell Colton what had happened. Once she did, Colton’s world came crashing down.

He and Matthew had grown so close since they met at the meeting. They hung out a bunch, both of them putting the whole ‘I tried to kill you’ thing behind them.

How could he have let another person he cared about get taken away from him?

Once he found out, he just sat in his room, and sobbed. Cassie tried to ask him what was wrong, but he just couldn’t tell her. He couldn’t speak from all the crying, and he was afraid to tell her because he was sure she would make fun of him.

After sobbing for a straight two hours, Colton finally got out of bed. Cassie was gone, but he didn’t mind. As soon as he heard the news, all he wanted to do was run and find Matthew and bring him back. But he knew he couldn’t. He was already too weak from using his powers.

But Matthew was his friend. Matthew was worth it.

After a quick change of clothes, and a quick sandwich, Colton was off. And he knew exactly where he was going. He power walked through the forest, straight to the clearing where the hunter’s did all the burnings.

The clearing opened, and there it was. The stake, and Matthew’s charred body tied to it.

What a bunch of idiots, he thought, as he trekked towards the scene. They didn’t even clean up their mess. Amateurs. Colton never even liked hunting, and he knew better than to leave the evidence out in the blue like that.

He approached the scene, and his heart dropped. The boy was terribly burned, but still recognizable. Colton blinked back the tears that threatened to fall, and got to work.

He cut away the ropes around Matthew’s body, the charred ropes falling away with ease. He carefully took the lifeless body down from the stake, and laid him on the lush grass beneath them.

Without thinking twice, Colton grabbed Matthew’s burnt hand, and squeezed his eyes shut, and concentrated all his power on Matthew. He could almost physically feel the power leaving him, becoming drained within seconds.

Colton breathed heavily, opening his eyes. He looked down at the boy, tears threatening to fall once again.

Because he had died.

The thought didn't really scare him, but he was upset about it. I mean, he couldn't see any of his friends- or his family; because he was dead. And besides, Matthew didn't even think this was what being dead was like, just a lonely soul that no one can see or hear. He was almost positive that another place had existed to take him in with his mother and father- but that apparently wasn't his case.

Then as the sun set around him, Matthew just aimlessly walked around the clearing, because earlier in the day he had tried to go into the woods- but it was like there was some sort of force keeping him bound near his body.

Being dead really sucked.

So, having the chance of a lifetime- Matthew walked back over to his burnt corpse and decided to watch himself decay, I mean, who ever has the chance to do that? But, his free time was interrupted when he heard someone in the distance. So, Matthew disappeared for a second, and reappeared a couple feet away from his body, standing up and looking out towards the noise and that's when he saw him.

Colton fucking May.

Matthew almost yelled out with joy, and he ran up to the boy, and followed him when he was walking over to his body. 

"Wait, oh my god are you going to-?" Matthew stopped, and looked at Colton with wide eyes, remembering that, yeah my best friends a necromancer. Matthew watched at Colton cut the ropes around his body, and then when he laid his body on the grass, Matthew wanted to scream again.

"Oh my god." was all he could say as he watched Colton grab his body's hand, and it was then that Matthew felt himself disappear, and then in a sudden quick burst of energy, he was back in his body, and he opened his eyes slowly, looking up at the boy he was just looking down at.
