The Black Lesbian Archives is an ongoing archival herstory project that aims to uplift the voices of Black Lesbians through education, preservation, and bridging intergenerational gaps between communities. Maekdo began #BLA in 2017 to counter the lack of digital representation of Black Lesbians on the web and in physical archives. Throughout the week Maekdo will share information about the Black Lesbian Archives, their upcoming projects, and the ways you can get involved and support #BLA’s work. Maekdo will also host a special Instagram Live on Saturday, March 27 in conversation with Jaimee Swift founder/director of Black Women Radicals (@blackwomenradicals), a Black feminist advocacy organization that “center[s] Black women and gender-expansive people’s radical political activism”. Black Lesbian Archives x Black Women Radicals Presents: The Grassroots Archivist Collective of Black Women Virtual Meet-Up April 11th @ 4PM EST! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 A collaboration between Black Lesbian Archives @blacklesbianarchives (BLA) and Black Women Radicals @blackwomenradicals (BWR), the Grassroots Archivist Collective of Black Women (GACBW) is a transnational virtual convening of Black women and gender expansive grassroots archivists and/or aspiring archivists. The GACBW seeks to bring together Black women and gender expansive archivists who are doing the critical grassroots and communal work of reclaiming and preserving our stories and our narratives. Litany for SurvivalThe relationship between Audre Lorde and Germany was mutually beneficial. During these years, Audre’s diagnosis of terminal cancer left her American doctors without hope for her survival. Berlin became her third home where she received naturopathic treatment in part responsible for the next eight years of her life.
