I’m curious, in your character design for deltarune, was Kris and December’s hair styles sort of mirroring/resembling each other’s an intentional choice?
I’ve seen some speculate Dess and Asriel might mirror each other’s siblings, and I was wondering if this design was a visual representation of that.
oh wow, i never really get asks, this is exciting!!
so, originally this wasnt intentional. i used to be a lot less consistent with how i drew characters, so characters would just get things like different hairstyles every drawing (i used to give other characters ahoges for example, just going based on how i felt, instead of following a specific design).
but, i eventually decided i wanted my designs to be more consistent and intentional, which is when i established kris and dess' hairstyles. when i was thinking about what i wanted to be the hair i usually gave each of them, i wanted to keep them with the ahoges i usually drew for them, and i noticed how both did had ahoges. from there i noticed how the hair i gave them was actually really similar! the only real difference of how i used to draw them was the shapes of the ahoges, but the main part of the hair was the same (i say used to, because now i have changed kris' hair a little bit since then, made it a bit curlier as opposed to dess' straighter hair).
i originally was unsure if i should keep their hair similar or change up the styles to make them more distinct, but i did decide to keep them similar. dess and kris are already fairly in terms of personality to me (well, at least they were back then :>) and the idea of them doing things like playing or pranking together while looking somewhat similar makes them feel like two peas in a pod, in a way, so them having pretty similar hair felt fitting (this is a bit random, but i also draw both of them as the shorter sibling in the current deltarune time, so thats another way i made them similar :P).
as for the idea of the sibling mirroring, ive never heard of that idea! as ive said, ive done it with dess and kris, but its not something ive ever considered design-wise for noelle and asriel. sure, i make them similar in personality (i imagine in a normal friend group of 2 siblings, the older sibling of one and the younger of the other (so the group dess & kris and asriel & noelle in this case) might not be as close as the other pairings of the group, but in this case i believe both sets have similar personalities with each other, making them just as close as the other pairings!), and in drawings ive made of the whole little group, i will sometimes connect them with an action or pose (for example, i drew them all in the snow once, and i had kris and dess roughhousing while noelle and asriel made a snowman, or when i drew them all caroling, i chose to give only asriel and noelle caroling books, just to tie them together, things like that), but i never really noticed how they could mirror each other, thats such a neat idea!
but yeah, in summary, i didnt intend to make their hair similar at first, but i eventually realized and started doing it intentionally. and when it comes to the sibling mirroring, ive never actually thought about it, but i believe i have done more things than just the hair, without even realizing how the siblings could mirror each other.
