why was he looking at… me?

i didn’t know what to think. he was pretty far away so i couldn’t read his expression. looking down at my watch i noticed i had 17 minutes of break left. gotta go about my day somehow after that embarrassing moment.

“WHAT?? PFFT GIRL- YOU DID FUCK UP A LITTLE” yunjin bursted out laughing as i told her and minji about my encounter with baekhyun. minji got super red while wheezing, i thought she was gonna turn into a tomato at some point.

“i knowww, UGHHHH. what a way to start the first day of the job.” i facepalmed while the girls kept bickering. as i was about to whine about them laughing i heard a mad sounding voice snapping at someone,

“what do you mean ‘mind your business?’ he IS my business. if i see you literally eye-fucking him ONE MORE TIME, you’ll be the one getting fucked- and NOT in a good way.” it was giselle. she looked livid as she was talking to a girl. the other girl scoffed,

“yeah as if you OWN him. we’ve been here for a day and it looks like YOU are the one that’s been eye-fucking people. i was just TALKING to him like a normal person. takes one to know one, cunt.”

“WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY?”

the others rushed in between them, some holding the distance and some holding the girls apart. damn, it has only been a day and people are FIGHTING over someone?

“what’s happening here?!” seulgi bolted in the room, yeji quickly catching up behind her. they seemed surprised and mad at the same time. everyone stopped in their tracks. no one said a word.

“i asked something didn’t i? WHAT is going ON?” pure silence. not even crickets were chirping.

“…she started it.” said the woman giselle was about to throw hands with.

“is that true?” asked seulgi.

giselle didn’t say a word but she looked sure of herself. a bit TOO sure.

“let’s get this straight. this is your JOB. not your hangout session with a group of friends. you get PAID to be here. yes, we might not work a 9-5 office job, but THIS is still a job- which you applied for, which you TRAINED for. i’m saying this to everyone. let this be a reminder that you all are grown ass women. act your age. giselle and julie, please meet me in my office during lunch break.” the girls gave each other death stares.

“..okay then shall we start?” asked yeji, trying to soften the atmosphere. “let’s revise ‘wolf’ one last time.”

“great job everyone! let’s move on to our next song, MAMA. you won’t need to move a lot for this song, so you’ll have plenty of energy for the one after this. just a little spoiler~” grinned yeji playfully. man was i hyped! all of those nights when i stared at the ceiling, dreaming about these days… they are finally coming true.

“will we have outfits for each song?” asked a girl with long wavy brown hair.

“yes, manon. but not for all. it’s not certain how many but i’d say you’d have at least 5 outfits.” answered seulgi, manon nodded.

“are we not gonna practice with the boys?” chimed in giselle.

“yeonjun informed me about their current situation with ‘wolf’. they have more stage time in wolf, so they’re a little behind but that’s okay. we will practice together after we complete MAMA.” answered seulgi rather coldly.

“finallyyyy~”

yeji looked at seulgi to see if their conversation was over. seulgi nodded.

“aaalrighty then! for the first move, you’re gonna make an “X” with your arms in front of your chest…”

lunch break was here. everyone scrambled to where the elevators were. i saw julie and giselle following yeji and seulgi from the corner of my eye. yunjin was looking at them.

“they got what they deserved. what are we? elementary school students? who fights over boys in their 20s for fucks sake?” she sounded unamused. minji giggled,

“do you have bad blood with giselle or what? you’ve been a hater since day 0- literally from the moment you saw her today.”

“no i don’t but people like her get on my nerves. black lipstick and a pushup bra to a fucking dance practice that’s literally your work? outrageous in my opinion.” minji hummed. although i don’t know if she was agreeing with her or was just acknowledging what she said.

“GUYSSS! over here!” sunoo waved at us,

“i saved you seats! also, this is hyunjin.”

hyunjin had medium length hair which was half let down. he was pretty attractive.

“nice to meet you guys.”

i swear i saw yunjin blushing a little.

“so we heard you guys are still doing wolf? when will it be over?” i asked.

“oh we just finished it. taemin said that we’ll practice with you and exo after the break.”

i choked on my caesar salad.

“LIKE THIS BREAK? IN AN HOUR?” i might’ve shouted a little because i received some confused looks from around. sunoo laughed,

“yes! i’m soooo excited! i can’t wait to dance with kai and yixing! they’ve been my idols since i was 12, so for 9 years i’ve been waiting for this day. i chose music as a major because of them.” he explained all giddy. it was super cute.

“i actually was never a fan of them until i applied for the job. they have some pretty sick moves and songs.” admitted hyunjin.

“kinda same here.” agreed yunjin.

“whaaaat? you guys are nuts! i’m 23 right? i’ve been an exo-l since i was 11! been here since debut.” exclaimed minji and saluted like a soldier. i laughed,

“i’ve been a fan since their call me baby era. i still remember the first time i saw them.” i sighed dreamily. then continued,

“my bias has always been baekhyun though. something about him just captivated me instantly. his looks, his voice, his personality… i saw him as a brother i never had for the most part. but during their obsession era..” i shook my head “and now seeing him in the flesh… it’s impossible not to like him.” wait. did i just confess my feelings for a celebrity in front of people that i’ve known for LITERAL HOURS? great job y/n. yunjin hummed,

“i mean i don’t blame you. they’re all super hot. even i got nervous from locking eyes with chanyeol.”

“gosh same! suho is my bias and i think i died a little when he smiled at me while he was introducing himself.” minji chimed in.

I WAS SO RELIEVED THAT I WASN’T THE ONLY ONE. sunoo and hyunjin agreed. they said that they looked… clean. and handsome of course.

minji choked on her Sprite. and pointed behind us. we all turned our heads. exo came to eat with us dancers! they lightly bowed to everyone looking at them. we also bowed with our heads when i noticed chanyeol looking at me and then snickering, turning to kyungsoo and pointing towards me with his eyes. kyungsoo, being the quiet guy he was, ever so slightly looked at me with his eyes, looked at chanyeol again. and my worst nightmare happened. he smiled. they know. THEY FUCKING KNOW.

something even worse happened. they started walking towards us. TOWARDS ME.

“hey! you’re y/n right? we’re chanyeol and kyungsoo, nice to meet you.” we shook hands.

“please eat well. you’re working very hard.” said kyungsoo calmly. chanyeol looked like he was fighting an “ijbol” forming inside him.

“s-so, is it true that baekhyun bumped into you totally spilling his iced coffee on the ground?” i could only stare with my mouth open. chanyeol laughed in a playful manner,

“that’s how he described you looking at him after realizing what had happened! i didn’t believe him but you really do look cute like th- OUCH!! KYUNGSOO WHY?”

“we must go now but please enjoy your meal, everyone.” said d.o. while dragging chanyeol by his arm after he seemingly stepped on his foot. he was a bit too late as we all heard what baekhyun said about me. cute. he found ME- ME. CUTE.

“am i hallucinating or did chanyeol accidentally admit that he AND baekhyun found you cute?” blinked minji.

“CARE TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED Y/N?” a very expectant sunoo exclaimed along with hyunjin looking at me, eyes wide.

“um.. okay so…” i explained what had happened and, surprise surprise, they laughed.

“but hey, at least he found it- or should i say, YOU cute, y/n?” hyunjin wiggled his eyebrows. i threw a salt packet at him jokingly.

the rest of lunch was over in the blink of an eye. the dancing instructors led us to a much bigger dance room.

exo was already there. the members bowed once they saw us and vice versa.

“wolf and MAMA, right? is everyone ready!!” exclaimed minseok. a symphony of “yeah!”s echoed.

“alright, let’s get you all into position.” said taemin, signaling seulgi to explain how it was going to unfold while showing us our places.

“you guys will not appear until the very first chorus. 15 of you will come from the right and the others from the left. sort of like a “V” shape. you will have some ramps on stage to give you some depth, after that…”

whew. it was tiring alright. the dancing was okay but what’s really tiring is being super close to them. especially baekhyun. my body produces so much adrenaline that i get tired faster than i normally do. i was laying down on the ground with my eyes closed, panting heavily. MAMA’s choreography was much lighter than “wolf”. considering wolf being the first act of the night, seulgi and taemin sure did go all out for it.

i sensed someone hovering over me.

“tired already?~ it’s okay you have roughly… 40 more songs to go~” i opened my eyes to a very playful baekhyun looking down at me.

“a-ah. well, MAMA isn’t all that but “wolf”? yeah wolf is quite something alright.” i smiled at him. he chuckled, lending his hand for me to hold. when i held his hand to get up, he grasped it firmly and pulled me, making me stumble a bit towards him. why was he being so attentive? i mean, not that i DIDN’T like it. but the pop star incredibly handsome main vocalist and greatly successful baekhyun of exo paying attention to me felt… weird. in a good way.

we chatted a bit more about the choreography. my eyes started to wander around in order to see if we were being stared at or not.

everyone seemed to mind their own business- some were laying down, enjoying their 10 minute break. some were chatting and some were even talking to the members like i was. i saw giselle looking at us, her arms crossed, one eyebrow slightly raised. before i could respond with an inquisitive expression, baekhyun asked,

“so, how old are you?”

“im 22 as of now.”

“ahh, so we have 10 years between us.”

he seemed like he was contemplating something, brows slightly furrowed and the sliiiiightest most microscopic pout you could ever see. before i could ask why, yeonjun requested that we did the chorus part of MAMA one more time.

“alright! that’s all for today. congratulations for completing the first day everyoneee!” clapped yeji. finally the day was over. we rehearsed with exo like, 6 times and went back to our separate studios. we completed call me baby, love me right and overdose. we’re going quite fast in my opinion.

“you can go eat dinner in the cafeteria or you can go out. please return to your dorms at 22.30 at latest and don’t forget your keycards. see you all tomorrow.” smiled seulgi as she was packing up her stuff.

“yall wanna go and explore seoul? i’ve been living here for 12 years now so it’s safe to say i got some stuff down about this place.” said minji and flexed her arms. i laughed,

“fine by me! you owe me 200 dollars if we get lost though!”

we were waiting for sunoo and hyunjin to get out of their studio. the door finally opened, yeonjun and taemin smiled at us before heading towards the stairs. when we looked inside we found a very sweaty group of men. ew.

“o-oh,” sunoo panted “heyyyy girlsss…” he waved sloppily like an overcooked noodle.

“damn, did yall run to the moon and back? why yall looking like slime?” teased yunjin.

“ha-ha verry funny. laugh all you want but when it comes to some other songs, you’ll be the slime.” said hyunjin before throwing his sweaty towel at yunjin,

“EWWW, YOU PIG!” yunjin threw it back earning a playful scoff from sunoo.

“see you tomorrow, bro!” said a guy with a very sharp jawline. he looked at us and smiled- it was more of a smirk really.

“yeah, bye jay!”

minji explained our plan to go eat outside. they obviously both agreed. i felt happy knowing i had formed a great friend group from the very first day.

days after weeks after months.

it has been 3 months already.

it was october 2024. a year later this month, we will be very very close to our main goal.

the friendship group was going great! yunjin, minji and i- the perfect trio. sunoo and hyunjin was also keeping us company of course. especially hyunjin with yunjin, they were like siblings!

“okay girlssss! time to turn up the heat! we will be moving on to the sexy songs~” said yeji while wiggling her eyebrows up and down.

we were down 15 songs. only 31 left. after that, all we gotta do is practice, practice and practice. performing in front of an average of 55,000 people in each city shouldn’t be easy.

meanwhile, baekhyun and i have gotten closer. one time, he even said that we were friends!

“it feels so refreshing to talk to a person who doesn’t seem too interested nor too disinterested in order to make me feel,” he air quoted “normal.”

“yeah, well even though i am a fan of you and your work, i won’t let it disturb us from actually having a nice conversation.” i smiled at him.

“you’re one of the very few people i could call my friend that is also an exo-l.”

even the thought brings a smile on my face.

seulgi made me snap back to reality when she started explaining the first move to “playboy”. arguably one of the sexiest exo songs to date.

“… and then you hug yourself on ‘boyy~’ while making a cirlce with your head tilted backwards from left to right.”

after many body rolls, playboy was finally 90% over. it took longer than expected. 3 and a half hours. and we still needed to practice the parts where we exchange canes with the members and the other dancers. playboy might sound like a simple song. and it is; but that’s the reason for the dance being complicated- for it to not be underwhelming for the audience.

“let’s take 10 and we’ll head up to the boys to practice a bit before we go eat lunch.” said seulgi before calling someone on her phone. it made me realize how bad i have been neglecting karina, natty and chaewon. i couldn’t even text them properly, let alone call them in the last few weeks. i decided to FaceTime them. karina picked up,

“Y/NNN OH MY GODDDDD WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??? GIRLS SAY HI!” turns out all of them were together.

“HIIII, i knowww i’m sorryyyy. it’s just been so hectic these days.”

“BITCH WE MISS YOU SO MUCH!! THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!” exclaimed natty and drank a shot of tequila.

“so, how’s it going?” chaewon asked.

“pretty good! here look, meet minji and yunjin-“ i introduced them.

“sooo~ got a special someone? perhaps an exo member??” questioned karina. chaewon snickered.

“guysss pleaseeee. i’m not here for that. i’m here to dance with my idols.” even though i’d be lying if i said i wasn’t fantasizing about baekhyun fucking the absolute living shit out of me, in no way am i gonna confess it.

“okay okay fine. don’t come crying to us that you didn’t get fucked by baekhy-“

“OKAY BYE GUYS LOVE YALL.” i hung up upon hearing natty literally say my thoughts out loud. besides i didn’t have headphones in and i don’t want anyone hearing my silly banter with my best friends and misunderstand it and gossip about it and- whew. man i guess i’m overthinking but you never know. especially with people like giselle around.

“everyone! let’s go practice with the boys!” yeji exclaimed.

“so, what exactly are you and baekhyun?” my stomach dropped upon hearing the question. my head shot back. giselle was looking awfully innocent for a question that had bad intentions lurking beneath.

“uh, what? we’re colleagues i’d say. maybe a bit on the friendlier side but nothing more.”

“yeah like i’m gonna buy it.” she friskily pushed me.

“come on, what’s your deal with him?”

“i told you. there’s no deal.” she sighed, leaning in close to my ear she said with a low voice,

“look, i don’t know if you think i’m stupid but i’d have to be one to believe what you just said to me. i’ve heard about your little ‘first encounter’ with him. afterwards you both got closer and closer every day. you really think i don’t see the way yall look at each other? especially you, you are clearly dying to fuck him. or did yall fuck already? hah, never thought that i wouldn’t be the first one to get in an exo member’s pants-“

“what the fuck are you talking about giselle?” i pulled away from her. what was she on about?

“who are you to accuse me of such things?”

“he always picks you to dance closer to him out of all 10 of us. every. single. time. always talks to you when he gets the chance, is usually staring at you while you’re dancing… want me to continue?” ..i actually did want her to continue because she -as an outside viewer- was confirming all of the things i had noticed but left it be. however, i’d rather die than admit this to her so,

“if you talk such bullshit one more time, it’s not gonna end good.” she scoffed,

“yeah? worried that your secret will be out? what will you do huh you motherf-“

“heesung and y/n. the exo members are asking for you.” said a tall man. seems like he’s their manager or something. saved by him, i shot giselle a dirty glare and went out of the studio.

“hello, y/n and heesung.” said jongin warmly.

“we’ve been taking in weekly reports from your instructors, and during these 3 months both of you never dropped down from 1st place, with a few exceptions.” explained baekhyun.

“so that’s why we’re inviting both of you to have dinner with us today! our treat~” happily said chanyeol.

what the hell am i gonna do?

suddenly the weight of the situation came crashing down on me. who was i? a newly graduate without any real job experiences whatsoever- yes, i may have been on stage before but nothing major.

i lightly slapped my cheek, “get yourself together y/n. you graduated from Juilliard School. the best university for dancing.” i repeated these sentences as if they were my own personal mantras. it kinda worked though. just as i was drifting off to sleep something even worse filled up my mind.

that meant baekhyun.

blood rushed to my cheeks just from the mere thought of him being steps away from me. i got up, stomping to the kitchen like a little kid, to get a nice cold glass of water. just before entering the kitchen i heard… chaewon? talking to someone.. seemingly on the phone. her whispers were barely audible but my ears focused on her immediately when i heard my name on her lips,

“…yeah, y/n.” …... “she didn’t go yet and- what?” she scoffed, making me tense up. “don’t you ever say that again, kazuha!” she whispered sharply. she said some other stuff too but i just couldn’t make up what they were as she started speaking even lower than before. just as i was contemplating asking her what happened, i heard her get up from her chair. panicking, i put on my best sleepy-just-woke-up-to-drink-some-water façade.

“ah! y/n.” chaewon looked at me, with a hint of anxiety in her voice,

“w-what are you doing at this hour?”

“mm, nothing.. just (fake yawn) thirsty..”

she nodded and headed towards her shared room with natty, whispering a soft good night on her way. i shrugged it off, knowing kazuha, she can be jealous when dancing is mentioned. must’ve defended me against kazuha’s envious comments as she’s also a huge exo fan herself.

“gooooood morning ms. exo’s backup dancer!” exclaimed my best friend while she flung open the curtains.

“ahhh!! noooo, light!! my biggest enemy nuuuu!!!” we both laughed as we always used to do this little thing when we woke up during the early days of university together.

we got ready and made our way to the living room where natty was doing some sort of yoga pose and chaewon was looking outside, taking photos with her phone.

“morning you guys!” said natty while changing positions.

“heyyy good morning~” chaewon said without really focusing on us. understandable, she always loved photography.

my stomach grumbled- no, it GROWLED. i put my hand on my stomach and suggested that we go and eat or i might as well turn into a werewolf. they all chuckled and agreed that we really should go and eat.

his face. it’s every-fucking-where. on the metros, on skincare products and even on some damn fried chicken ad! not complaining though, i was glad to see baekhyun’s handsome face along with his other handsome members.

“don’t you think that sehun is super hot?”

“natty, every one of them is super hot.”

“i know but like. sehun,” she snapped her fingers in a sassy way “he’s just something else.”

“i think xiumin is the hottest.” added chaewon while -again- taking a picture of the slightly cloudy sky.

“damn, y/n. you’re gonna be dancing with these super hot and super talented men. lucky you huh!” chirped karina, softly punching my arm.

“nothing’s certain yet, rina. the recruiter said that the interview will take place on saturday. it’s still tuesday.” i fidgeted with my hands as i said those lines. less than 4 days.

“guys, let’s go eat at that fried rice place we saw on youtube, the food looked delicious!” said chaewon, interrupting my anxiety induced thoughts. natty held my hand as she opened the GPS app on her phone, we walked hand in hand with her the entire time. and finally as the fried rice place’s sign was visible to us; “this hand” natty held our hands up to our faces “might belong to an exo member soo~oon.”

karina didn’t forget to insert herself into natty’s joke,

“hehehe, wouldn’t be surprised with that pretty face of yours, y/n.”

they continued on with their banter when i noticed chaewon being awfully quiet. her expression unreadable.

“hey chae, you okay? you’ve been acting unusual since yesterday.” i asked, worrying if she fought with kazuha after the phone call.

“nothing, i’m just really hungry and you know how i act when i'm hungry.”

true. she’s the most grumpy person ever when she’s hungry. i chuckled and we finally went in to the restaurant.

tuesday.

wednesday.

thursday, friday..

saturday. eugh. the day finally came.

i honestly don’t know if i should be happy or mortified. i'm nervous that’s for sure. i let out a heavy breath, trying to calm my nerves down. i looked in the mirror one last time. i had some pretty basic clothes on: a white crop top paired with black sweatpants that were just the right amount of baggy. i hugged the girls tight before leaving the house. i got this.

“hello, i’m y/n…” i introduced myself to the secretary that was in charge of the reception. she nodded politely and showed me the way to the interview room- or should i say dance studio?

she briefly explained how the process would work. they have my resumé already- when i contacted jiwoo she said to email it to her. they will ask me to introduce myself. step 1.

how i found out about this position. step 2.

request a freestyle dance to a song of their choice. step 3.

explain some more formalities about residency permit stuff. step 4.

and ask why they should hire me. step 5.

pretty easy, right? right. it’s just like a normal job interview. and considering that dancing is my job, this should be the most normal interview for me. she wished me good luck and pulled the door open. revealing the 4 people waiting for me. they were all seated across me, in front of the big ass mirror that cover the whole wall behind them.

“please introduce yourself.” said one of the two women. so i did what she asked. step 1, done.

“how did you find out about this position?” asked one of the two men. i explained how song jiwoo saw me dancing and gave me her card. they nodded while the man who asked the question hummed. step 2, done. man was i on a roll!

“please put your belongings on top of the table. you will dance freestyle. don’t want anything bad happening to your phone, right?” smiled the second woman. i smiled while putting my phone away. “before playing the song, i wanted to inform you that the song that will play now is the same for everyone that we are interviewing. you will also be filmed as we will evaluate your dancing skills afterwards.” she said pointing to the camera that was on top of a long tripod.

i let my body do its thing, dancing freestyle has always been my forte. flipping my hair, swaying my hips, body-rolling occasionally…

i felt alive. the feeling of sweat creeping up, the little cracks of my joints, my facial expressions changing to fit the words she sang… most importantly, the feeling of expressing myself with something more than just my words.

this truly reminded me of why i have chosen this path for my life once more. trying to not pay attention to the camera nor the way their eyes and heads followed my moves, i focused on the song: the electronic hi-hats and snares, the auto tune on rihanna’s voice on some parts and the feeling of her voice. an amazing song really. after what felt like an hour instead of 4 minutes, i was left with strands of hair stuck to my eyelashes and eyebrows, looking over from my left shoulder backwards as i looked at them and of course, trying to control my respiratory system. they clapped lightly. step 3. done.

“so, we know that you are not a citizen of south korea. we will support you with the paperwork throughout your 15 month stay here. if you get hired you will start training from july 2024 to september 2025, when the 13th anniversary concerts and the training period will take place. you will not need to worry about doing the paperwork all by yourself during these months.” i nodded. step 4. done.

a man with a white cap and black face mask cleared his throat,

“why should we hire you for this position amongst the hundreds of other people that are currently fighting for the same exact opportunity?” his voice sounded awfully familiar.

i stopped, taking my sweet time to form an answer that isn’t “‘cause.. me like dancin.. me also love exo,, teehee i looooove exo and especially byun baekhyun teehee~”

finally, i stood up even straighter than before and said with 100% confidence,

“i am the hardest working person you will ever meet. just like how we need oxygen to survive, i need to dance in order to survive. i always strive for the very best. i am not afraid to push my own limits- even if it means working overtime. this is an opportunity that comes once in every 40 lifetimes, i would be overjoyed to work for and with the multitalented group EXO.”

he looked at me and then to his peers and back at me. since he was wearing a face mask i couldn’t tell how he felt about my little speech.

“thank you, our team will contact you in a week.” he extended his arm out to me. i went over and shook his hand. his… hand. HAND. OH MY GOD HIS HAND! it was long and slim, very soft and gentle. and of course. it had the signature mole of guess whose thumb- BAEKHYUN’S. damn, i sound crazy. i quickly shook the other interviewers’ hands, took my phone and left before making them notice that my heart was beating around 120 bpm with how loud it was pumping. i’m SO GLAD that he was wearing some sort of disguise, if he hadn’t i would’ve fucked it up. but considering the fact that he is the CEO of INB100, i should’ve been ready to see him either way.

it’s been almost 2 weeks. our stay in south korea was half way done. and guess what? still no calls.

“hey it’s okay, you’ll have more opportunities come your way.” said chaewon, trying to sound reassuring.

“yeah, fuck them! it ain’t your fault that they couldn’t see how fucking talented you are!” added a pissed off natty. meanwhile karina came back from the kitchen with leftover ramyeon.

“here eat this,” before i could even say anything she stuffed my mouth with yummy ramyeon that we got from a very expensive restaurant since we “only live once” according to natty. “…eat it and don’t be sad please. be healthy. you need your health for more opportunities, yeah?”

i guess- no, i knew she was right. i don’t even know why i got this sad. there are way more experienced and talented people than me. of course they wouldn’t even consider me. how could i be so-

the loud noise of my annoying ass ringtone filled our ears. i immediately picked up,

“hello? yes, it’s me.” natty let out a small gasp. “yes. really?! yes, okay thank you so much! 4th of july? yeah, no problem at all! thank you, see you soon!” i hung up. they finally called me! they called to confirm my position as a backup dancer!

“I’M IN!!” karina and natty screamed their lungs out. the two of them were circling me, constantly saying how excited they were on my behalf. chaewon hugged me and congratulated me. i swear i could’ve seen her smile falter for a second before grinning at me again. i was so so SO EXCITED!! i thanked whatever was up there and finally let myself relax. continuing to eat the ramyeon. but with huge hopes about my career within me now.

“we’ll miss you soooo much y/n!” karina hugged me tightly and i think i heard some of my bones cracking.

“ayee you got this bitch!!” said natty while dapping me up and pulling me into an even tighter hug that seemed humanly impossible.

“you’ll do great, don’t forget to let us know how you’re doing please!” i hugged chaewon.

i thanked them for their immense love and support, i also promised to get them signed merch and vip tickets. they waved at me one last time and went through passport control. i was left standing. alone. in a country i barely knew. all alone.

no no no no. i could do this! i WILL do this!! i’ll make everyone proud but most importantly myself proud. i turned on my heel to go and settle into my dorm that INB100 would be providing me.

jiwoo picked me up from the airport. the ride was quite long. more than 2 hours for sure. the dorms were for 2 people. she told me that there will be 20 boys and 10 girls- 30 people in total. not that crowded. jiwoo gave me my keycard for the main entrance and for the room. so if i somehow lost it not only would i be locked out from my room, but from the whole building as the security guard is only allowed to let in people who have keycards,

“…no matter who it is, to prevent any mishaps from happening. so please be sure to carry it with you all times.” jiwoo warned me about this for at least 3 times now. i thanked her for accompanying me to my dorm. she smiled and simply said “see you later.” then left.

i opened the door only to find a young looking girl drying her hair with a towel. upon hearing the door opening, she swiftly turned her head to look at me.

“oh, hey, roomie! i’m minji, nice to meet you!” she shook my hand with her slightly damp hand.

“y/n. very nice to meet you.”

i felt like we were going to be great friends since she was playing artificial love by exo in the background.

“alright everyone! listen up please! i’m seulgi, the main dancing instructor for the girls. i hope to have a pleasant 15 months training you to become the very best of yourselves in terms of dancing.” everyone was in the dancing studio. it was different than the one that i had been interviewed in, this one was more spacious.

“hey everyone, i’m yeji. i’m the assistant dancing instructor for the girls. i’m looking forward to our time together!” our teachers stepped aside for the instructors of the boys’ to introduce themselves. taemin and yeonjun talked about how the whole process would be,

“the setlist currently has 46 songs, surpassing 3 hours-“ light whispers and mumbling filled the room instantly. “-but don’t let this intimidate you as you won’t be dancing to 7-10 songs.” that would mean roughly 40 minutes off. “..besides you have plenty of time and very experienced dancing instructors. we will support you through thick and thing regarding your dancing journey with us.” explained the main instructor taemin. dancing for more than 2 hours did seem pretty intense.. but it would be more than 2 hours dancing with exo. so who am i to complain? yeonjun -the assistant instructor- interrupted my train of thoughts by announcing that all 9 members of exo would come to meet us in about 10 minutes. i looked around to see if anyone else looked excited and some of them did seem to tense up a little. but not all, which was surprising to be honest. the door flung open just as taemin opened his mouth to say something. everyone’s heads darted behind to look at the door.

they were here early.

sehun stepped inside first, bowing politely to us. then we heard a deep male voice call out to him, scolding him in a playful manner “yah sehun! why did you open the door that hard and fast? you’re gonna break that thing one day.” chanyeol waved hello as he entered while he took place next to sehun. then entered chen, xiumin and lay. then kai, suho and d.o. and, of course, lastly the CEO himself: byun baekyun.

“hello everyone. we’re EXO and i’d like to start by congratulating you all for making it. i’m jongdae and i look forward to see you guys dancing with us on stage!” exclaimed chen and smiled widely. the fact that he introduced himself as if we didn’t know who he was made me chuckle internally. the rest of exo also introduced themselves though i’m not sure if it was necessary since, hello??, they are one of the biggest boy groups both internationally and in south korea.

“we wish you a productive first day, if you have any questions feel free to ask us.” said d.o. and with that, they left the room. probably going to their own separate dance studio somewhere in this huge ass building. i let out a big breath i didn’t know i was holding.

i felt like a kindergartener trying to make friends. it had been so long since i was in a place where i knew no one at all, well, except for my roomie minji. i guess she counts as an acquaintance.

“hey, i’m yunjin. what’s yours?” a girl with dark red hair came up to me. i guess she saw my slightly concerned face.

“oh, hi. i’m y/n. nice to meet you.”

“you too.”

…ahh there it was. the awkward silence. we were just standing next to each other looking at other people when she suddenly turned to me and said,

“god that was so awkward, how about we skip the whole getting-to-know-each-other phase and just become friends?”

YES PLEASE, SHE’S SAVING MY LIFE RIGHT NOW.

“ahahaha! yes, sure!” then i saw minji coming towards us with a cute looking boy.

“hey, y/n! i want you to meet sunoo- oh hi, i’m minji by the way.”

“yunjin.” they smiled at each other. “hey sunoo, i’m…”

we all introduced ourselves and i had a gut feeling that we would be inseparable.

“oh, by the way i advise you to not fuck with that long pink haired girl wearing black lipstick. she’s giselle. we used to attend the same university and… let’s just say… she’s kind of a bitch.” sunoo said pointing at giselle with his eyes. her light pink hair stood out in her group of friends. she was carefully eyeing the room until our eyes met. shit. i was waiting for her to give me a nasty look but she just went on with what she was doing without paying any mind to me. ..that’s good? i guess.

yunjin scoffed before saying “yeah, she does look like one. who wears black lipstick to a dance practice? like, what are you? an idol or something?” she rolled her eyes. before minji and i could voice our thoughts, seulgi loudly exclaimed that we would be starting as of now. yeonjun requested for the boys to follow him to go to -yet again- a separate studio since it would be too crowded with 30 people in the same room. we said goodbye to sunoo, he waved at us, pouting like a little lost child. yeji grabbed our attention again,

“OK, SO! we will be starting off with the first song in our setlist- wolf!” i liked the song wolf, it was quite… experimental and VERY early 2010ish but hey- no shame in being a little different. without further ado they started showing us the dance meticulously.

so far so good. it’s been over half an hour and i’ve been learning the moves pretty quickly i’d say. i looked at my smart watch,

08.43 am. okay, 11 hours and 17 minutes to go.

“alright everyone, we’re moving on to the second verse. it’s pretty similar to the first verse. so just like…”

whew. finally the outro part. i’ve been doing pretty good. yunjin and minji seem to be working hard as well. especially yunjin, she looks so focused even when she’s drinking water.

“before we move onto the last part, let’s take 30.” said seulgi, she looked pretty energized as if she wasn’t dancing her heart out while also keeping track of who was doing what for 2 hours. giselle immediately rushed in front of the mirror to reapply her matte black lipstick, earning a scoff from yunjin. she side eyed us but didn’t say anything. i excused myself and got out to find the restroom. i needed to splash some cold ass water on my face to refreshen. the thing about this building is that IT’S SO FUCKING BIG. endless stairs and occasional elevators kept popping up. but no sign of a single restroom. i hopped on to an elevator and pressed 5, just to try my luck. when i got out of it i realized i came to the cafeteria. “good to know..” i mumbled to myself. just then i FINALLY saw a sign that read WC. i rushed there because now, i also needed to pee after 10 minutes of searching for this fucking place. i swiftly turned around the left corner where the sign pointed at. just then i bumped into someone pretty hard that ended up spilling their iced coffee on the ground.

“OH MY GOD! i’m so so sorry i was too quick to-“

“no, it’s okay. it’s my fault i wasn’t necessarily looking at where i was- or WHO i was walking into.”

i averted my gaze from the spilled iced coffee to the person talking.

“MR. BAEKHYUN. HI. I AM SO VERY SORRY. I WILL BUY YOU A NEW COFFEE IMMEDIATELY.” i sounded like a fucking robot. he politely smiled,

“hey, it’s okay really. i was looking at my phone so it really is my fault. don’t worry about it.” i tried to keep my composure. but with him looking so effortlessly handsome? this was a tough challenge. no, y/n remember, he’s also a part of the human species just like you. plus he’s probably sick of getting treated like some perfectly handsome and perfect (did i say perfect already?) extraterrestrial being so please. ACT. NORMAL.

“oh.. well, if you say so, mr. baekhyun.”

“what’s your name?” gosh his voice was so perf- OK. STOP IT. YOU’RE DOING IT AGAIN.

“y/n. it’s so nice to meet you mr. baekhyun.”

i extended my hand to him and he shook it oh so gently.

“you’re one of the dancers right? i hope you liked your first session out of many.” said baekhyun with a slightly playful tone. i have to admit that he’s being really professional but friendly at the same time, with the right amount of both. he wasn’t immediately flirty like all the fan fiction i read, he definitely wasn’t a playboy, and he isn’t too formal as of now.

“yes, i am. i’m looking forward to those many sessions too!” i smiled widely.

“well, gotta brace yourself. seulgi and yeji might seem friendly but they’re one hell of a teacher y’know? they’ll not leave you alone until you get the routine perfectly. so, beware is what i’m trying to say.” he lightly rocked back and forth on his heels. i chuckled.

“thank you for the advice mr. baekhyun.”

he softly let out a little laugh. “any time~” he patted me on my shoulder and told a staff to get his iced coffee cleaned up. and off he went.

i finally saw the restroom’s entrance. it was near the building’s café. “so that’s how we bumped into each other.” i thanked whoever the interior architect/designer person was and turned to look behind me if the iced coffee was getting cleaned or not, because i still felt guilty for all of the mess and the loss of money i caused.

just to find baekhyun looking at me from a distance. as soon as we locked eyes he broke eye contact and shook his head ever so slightly. and then he turned around and left.

summary: you just graduated from the top ranked dancing university in the world, ready to take on whatever came your way. but before immediately getting involved with professional stuff, you wanted to cut yourself some slack. so when you and your group of friends went to South Korea for a trip you definitely weren’t expecting to get recruited while dancing to some random ass kpop dancing challenge. you were baffled when the recruiter uttered the word “EXO” to you, the group that got you into dancing in the first place. so when you accepted the offer you couldn’t help but think “what the hell am i gonna do?”

everyone threw their caps in the air, a symphony of happy screams, “woo!!!”s and “congratulations!!” reached my ears as i was scrambling to find my cap on the ground. ughhh why did i even throw it in the first place? i spent 5 days working on the top of the cap for it to have a pretty design just to lose it in 5 SECONDS? nuh-uh. i was cursing at myself when i heard my best friend Karina’s voice.

“hey girlll, you lookin’ for this?”

my cap!!! there it was in all it’s glory.

“OH MY GOD YES! thank you so much ‘rina, i was getting worried that someone stepped on it and turned it into dogshit.”

she laughed and added,

“well thank god that you managed to throw it directly on top of my head, how did you even do that? i was 3 rows behind you.”

she tossed me my hard-earned and hard-worked on cap. i laughed, shrugging my shoulders in an “idk man” way. just then i saw natty and chaewon walking towards us. seeing them in their graduation caps and robes was awfully nostalgic and emotional. my mind drifted to when we first met, as a group.

karina was my roommate. the first time i saw her my mind just went “wow.”, she was (and still is) awfully gorgeous. her long wavy dark indigo hair was the first thing that caught my eye. we bonded instantly thanks to her outgoing nature. and then came chaewon. I was playing Just Dance with karina and we needed a 3rd player. chaewon happened to pass by so i went up to her asking her to join us. she was a bit hesitant at first but agreed nevertheless. last but not least, natty. we were at some frat party when we saw natty twerking to water by tyla with a beer bottle in her right hand. i knew i found my lifelong friend group right then and there. 4 years later, here we are. discussing job opportunities like we weren’t complaining about attending classes just a month ago.

“i heard doja cat’s team is hiring backup dancers for Coachella.” said natty. “oh girl, there isn’t anyone better than you for the job with an ass that’s able to twerk like yours!” karina chimed in, landing a light slap on natty’s upper thigh.

“ughhh you guys are already talking about jobs? why not relax a bit?” whined chaewon, lightly jumping up and down.

“girl. this is doja cat we’re talking about.”

“you can shake ass with her after slacking off a bit, nattyyy~~”

i agreed with chaewon. we all worked super hard throughout these 4 years. we gave our blood, sweat and tears- literally. it was our right to finally breathe a bit. i actually did have an idea. how about…

“..how about south korea?” i said, haven’t been listening to what they were laughing about. they looked at me puzzled. i explained my idea of traveling there for like a week or two. we decided to talk about it later with more details and focused on taking photos for the rest of the day.

“so, why south korea?” asked natty while happily eating her lobster tail pasta.

“i mean, it’s a place i never got to go in my 22 years of life. plus we all know that seoul is an incredible city with lots of history and-“

“-and! with an amazing night life!” noted karina, earning nods and hums of agreement from the girls. after a bit of a pause chaewon broke the silence and proposed her own idea,

“let’s stay there for a whole month! we’ve graduated, hello? and i don’t wanna go to somewhere new and exciting just to return to this same old town in three days again like how we always did.”

she was right. even though we did travel during our university years we didn’t exactly explore the whole city or country that we went to. some tourist attractions and night clubs were enough for us. but this time, we were determined to make a change about that.

“okay, a month is fine by me but what about the plane tickets? the hotel? or are we gonna book an airbnb? let’s not get all giddy before planning. because 30 days?? that is a duration we never experienced before.” natty added before wiping her mouth with a napkin and taking a sip out of her wine.

“true that,” i sighed and continued “a month is great and all but it’s also gonna cost us a lot of money. we need to make sure that we won’t go broke after all those activities that i know you girls are planning to do.” i smirked while karina and natty looked at each other and giggled. we continued to talk about how this whole thing was going to unfold while chaewon asked for the check.

after bidding goodbye to the girls, karina and i went to our apartment that we had rented a month before graduation. “hey, i’m gonna shower. and it’s gonna be an everything shower.” she emphasized the word ‘everything’ with her hands, making an imaginary circle in the air. i let her know that it was fine and i didn’t have anything urgent. just as i heard the water running i plopped onto my bed, laying down like a starfish.

“korea, huh?” i mumbled to myself. of course, the first thing on my mind was exo. i was 13 when i first saw them, in their call me baby era. the way they danced was just so captivating. i immediately fell in love with their music style. the fact that it had almost been 10 years, a decade, since i became a fan of them was making me realize just how fast time flew by. and since i was still a kid when i was 13-14, i didn’t really consider how one of the members might’ve had an impact on me. i only came to realize it during their obsession era.

byun baekhyun.

the sexy yet cute, childish but mature, honey voiced main vocalist of the group. god, he was so.. unreal. the way his white hair bounced on his forehead while he was dancing away, the way he looked in the camera with that goddamn face chain felt like he was staring directly into my soul. oh god- and his hands? his infamous hands? don’t get me started on those hands of his.

i felt a slight blush creeping up on my cheeks. i sighed heavily, knowing that my celebrity crush was.. nothing more than a celebrity crush really. he didn’t know i existed, had millions of fans waiting to throw themselves at him and plus i’m sure he has many beautiful women around him that are just as talented as him. hell, he might even have a girlfriend. i sighed one more time, aware of the fact that i was just a mere fan in the huge ocean of exo-ls. i decided to sulk about it later and opened my laptop to search for an affordable airbnb.

after what felt like an eternity, we got everything done. the airbnb, the plane tickets, the financial aspect… we managed to handle them all. and the day finally came. we met up at the airport and as much as we were excited, we were also anxious.

“you checked everything right? our passports? we have them right?” karina nagged me 7 times in the span of 45 minutes. this was her 8th.

“ughhhh yes, rinaaaa. i did.”

“did you che-“

“yes, i QUADRUPLE checked before leaving the house.”

karina nodded with a slight look of worry on her face. she always got super nervous before passport control. chaewon was looking around to find the airport’s duty-free. natty was chatting with a guy that seemed to be a little too into her, but she knew how to handle attention so i let her be.

after 30 minutes i called them over to check-in. and then passport control and lastly -finally- we managed to board the plane. the seat arrangement of the plane was different than the other ones that we flew with. 2 seats on the right and the left, with 4 seat in the middle. we were happy that we got to sit together. since it was a 15 hour flight, i decided to look through my notes of the places that we were going to visit to kill some time.

“so which night clubs we gon’ go to?” said a very sleepy natty, “i know club double 8 is pretty popular.”

“just go to sleep nat, you’ll think about partying tomorrow.” giggled chaewon.

what was happening?

he sat down on some type of stool, pushed his hips slightly upwards and just like that, he was manspreading. baekhyun motioned for me to sit on his lap, lightly patting his left upper thigh. i’m SURE that my mouth was hanging open the whole time but who cares? I’M SITTING ON BAEKHYUN’S LAP!! baekhyun caressed my cheeks with his hands, his right thumb brushing my lips. i licked my lips, admiring his handsome face. his left hand found its way to my waist, then to my ass. i could feel myself throb at his lustful action. baekhyun licked his lips ever so slowly, leaned into my left ear and asked after slightly pausing,

“beef or chicken?”

…what.

“ma’am, beef or chicken?” my eyes flung open and i think i gasped, because the flight attendant looked taken aback.

“uh- um- beef, please.” i smiled at her sheepishly, taking the beef that was supposed to be my dinner out of her hands. she smiled and went on with her duty. karina snickered, “dude, what was that about? were you having a wet dream?” SHIT. HOW DID SHE KNOW? she laughed quietly, imitating my puzzled face.

“girl, you were saying “mmh” and “mhm” all the damn time. how could i NOT notice?” i felt myself burning up. it’s like she read my mind. damn you byun baekhyun. i looked over to my left to find natty and chaewon quietly eating their meals, seems like they were too busy to even notice my embarrassing actions while sleeping.

finally, we landed after almost 16 hours, the flight took a bit longer than expected but it was fine. we quickly found an uber to take us to our airbnb, meeting the owners when we arrived. they were a lovely couple leaving for their honeymoon. we wished them a happy honeymoon and settled in. of course, natty immediately wanted to go out and explore the lively city of seoul.

“come on girls, we’re finally here! what are y’all waiting for?!”

chaewon looked unamused, “have you ever heard of ‘jetlag’? let us rest a bit, damn.”

“yeah, natty. maybe we should get used to the time difference here, what do you say?” karina asked, clearly very tired from all the running around at the airport. contrary to karina and chaewon, i wasn’t tired. i felt pumped actually. maybe it was the excitement of being in a new place or maybe it was the adrenaline from my dream with baekhyun. eh, it didn’t matter.

“i’ll come natty!” i said eagerly. she smiled widely, “finally! someone that’s not 80 years old apparently!” we both giggled while karina and chaewon was barely registering what we said.

“okie, well, we’ll be back in an hour or so! bye girlies!” exclaimed natty and pulled me by my wrist.

“Y/N?? WHERE ARE- Y/N!!” i heard natty shouting from a distance. i may have gotten lost when i didn’t wait for her to get tteokbeokki skewers. long story short, i wandered off without her AND MY PHONE, which i forgot was in her bag. the stars somehow ended up aligning for me because i found myself walking towards a random kpop dance challenge in public. with crowds of people watching, filming and waiting for a song that they know to come on. i spent a good 10 minutes watching them and cheering people on. just then growl by exo came on. of course, i rushed with the other people to dance and somehow ended up in front row, putting a show for cheerful strangers singing the fan-chant. then i spotted a very mad looking natty watching me. as soon as the song switched to another one, i smiled from ear to ear to my fellow dancers and immediately rushed over to her.

“where the hell have you been?! i got scared to death! don’t you know how many creeps could be lurking out there?!” i was breathing very heavily but i managed to get out an apology. natty hugged me tightly, giving me my phone back while stating that she would never carry it again. before i could whine about it, i felt a tap on my shoulder,

“excuse me, ma’am.”

we turned around to see a petite figure of a young woman wearing a black cap and a black mask looking up expectantly to me as she was… short. very short.

“yes?”

“hello. my name is song jiwoo. i work as a talent recruiter in INB100. and i wanted to ask if you would want to become a backup dancer for EXO, as they have a big 13th anniversary concert planned. here’s my card. please confirm wether you would want to come to the interview or not in 24 hours.”

INB100.. exo… 13th anniversary concert… dance… me…

i was trying to process what she had just proposed to me. then i realized she was still looking up at me, patiently waiting for an answer.

“uh- uhm, yes!!” i shouted a little, making natty snort. clearing my throat i continued,

“yes, thank you for the opportunity. i will let you know in no time.” i smiled as i shook her hand. she bowed lightly and turned around, disappearing into the crowd.

natty shook me, squeeling happily, “GIRL OH MY FUCKING GODDDD!!??? LIKE WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED??? YOU WILL TAKE IT RIGHT?? RIGHT?!!” i was still examining the card that jiwoo handed me.

after a looooong story time about what happened, karina and chaewon looked at us, their expressions filled with surprise. the room fell silent. clearly, they were waiting for me to say something.

“you will accept it, right? we all know how big of a fan you are of them.” said karina softly, squeezing my right hand reassuringly.

“i know,” i huff “but it just feels hypocritical you know… telling you guys to relax and not take on jobs… while if i accept this, i’m gonna be doing the opposite of what we intended to do with this trip.” i groaned, taking my face into my own hands.

“girl, you’re fucking crazy. none of us will judge you whatsoever for taking a great- an INCREDIBLE job opportunity! this might change your life. and who knows, maybe you’ll get laid by an exo member~” said natty suggestively while making kissing noises. we laughed. after a long pause, i finally spoke up.

“i will take it.”

karina and natty immediately hugged me, showering me with encouraging words. chaewon patted my back, i sensed something with her acting like this but i decided to ignore it. she was really tired from the moment we landed after all.

after researching if song jiwoo was a real recruiter of INB100, i dialed her number.

heluuu, im jade! i sometimes write and i wanted to share them here. although i am in no way, shape or form a professional i still like to express myself (and my daydreams) through writing. my ask box is always open <3

here’s some info about what i will write;

i’ll only write for EXO. i’ve been a fan of them since 2020 and -no hate- simply couldn’t find other boy groups that interesting. i don’t think i could write effectively about groups that i’m not interested in.
