When I was younger, my mom was a crazy catholic for awhile. Church was a part of my life. I had to go every Sunday. Looking back on it now, it’s all good memories and I always have the strongest craving to go to a huge cathedral on Christmas day. I remember my church in Minnesota. I remember how it looks in the beautiful winters where snow is flowing everywhere and we’re all in our Sundays best.
I was forced to go to communion class to get a communion and also baptized. My baptize name is Stephanie. I remember I used to wear the rosary around my neck and my bible study teacher told me that I would go to hell. I would bite the bread when the priest gave it to us and my bible study teacher told me if I keep biting, one day, the blood of Christ will burst through my mouth. So many funny little stories.
One of my top awkward moments was with our priest. During our communion session, we were allowed to confess our sins every Sunday. I was 13. My daily sins were watching TV and choosing not to study. So I always felt so awkward when I was called in and the Priest opened the door. You had to sit in there and say “Dear Father, I have sinned, please listen to my sins and forgive me” and then list all of your sins.
I still tried to confess any sins I could muster up. I remember one day, I told him “Dear Father, I punched my brother this week and accidentally gave him two bloody noses. I then proceed to threaten to kill him if he told mom.” I could sense hesitation or a pause from him as if he was about to laugh. I was hoping he would so it was less awkward but instead, he told me to say three Hail Mary’s and then let me out.
