Prompt/movie that inspired your work: Custody: âA widower fights for custody of their child after the birth parent who abandoned them returns.â
The door of the club swings shut behind him, and Derek savors the relative quiet of the New York City alleyway. Bouncingâs an easy enough gig, considering how easily he can overpower men over twice his size just by flexing a touch of werewolf strength, but the music gives him such awful headaches.
He lights a cigarette and leans back against the building, grateful heâs not catching sight of any back-alley BJs for once.
âBum a smoke?â asks a young, attractive man who appears suddenly beside him. Derek startles, surprised someone was able to sneak up on him. The guy raises an eyebrow and gives Derekâs pack a significant look.
âSure, whatever.â Derek says, offering the pack. The man takes one and lights it, the smoke curls in the dim light of the street lamp as he exhales.
âYouâre a tough man to find, Derek,â the young man observes. âYou are Derek Hale, arenât you?â
âHow the hell do you know my name?â Derek growls, fisting the guyâs shirt and shoving him back against the wall, âWho the hell are you?â
In lieu of answering, the young man smirks, and presses an envelope into Derekâs chest.
âYouâve been served,â he says. âYou are hereby ordered to appear at the custody hearing of your daughter, Abigail C. Welch, on January the 12th, 2015 or forfeit all claims to custody now and in the future.â
âWhat the fuck?â Derek says, utterly confused. In his shock, heâd let the guy go, grasping the envelope the guy had pushed into his chest. âI donât have a daughter. What the hell are you talking about?â
But the guyâs already halfway up the block, and gives him nothing but a jaunty backwards wave as he jogs away and disappears down the street.
âI donât have a daughter!â Derek yells after him, âHey, youâve got the wrong guy! I donât have ââ But itâs useless. The guy is already gone, leaving Derek alone in the alley with a plain white envelope and a hundred questions swirling around in his mind.
