Being a little girl wasn't "tender." It was being taught that the world isn't for you. Almost every person in a position of power or respect is male. Most main characters in media are male. Most of the people you learn about in school are male. You're not allowed to go anywhere alone. You're taught to always be on edge because there are people waiting to exploit you the second your guard is down. You're told how to sit, stand, look, and speak so as to not offend. You're raised with the expectation that you will serve others - today your parents and siblings, and later a husband and children - never centering yourself in your own life, whatever else you may achieve. It's learning to restrict your eating and hate your body before you've even finished puberty. It's being taught your value is in your appearance and that being anything less than beautiful means you deserve less - less kindness, less respect, less success, less love.
