“People should pass a test before being allowed to have kids.” “Isn’t it scary how white people have this inborn capacity for evil?” “I’ll never pass because males and females have different skull shapes.” “Autistic people have a stronger sense of justice than anyone else.” “I don’t want AMABs in my space because they’re dangerous.” “You shouldn’t have access to hormones if you dress like THAT.” “Anyone who does something that awful isn’t human.” “Some people really shouldn’t be allowed to vote.”
This is eugenics. This is phrenology. THIS IS NAZI SHIT, YOU ARE A LEFTIST BUYING INTO NAZI SHIT. YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE TO NAZI SHIT.
I've seen a lot of people in the comments saying people needing to pass a test to have kids is a good idea, but I don't think they understand what that means. The US government used to take Indigenous children from their parents for reasons as asinine as grandparents living in the home (called "overcrowded environment") or using only their native language at home instead of English (because it "failed to prepare" children for a world where English is the dominant langauge).
Children placed in residental schools were abused, murdered, and sold into arranged marriages with white men. More recently, children "adopted" out into white households are often also subjected to the same, as well as forcibly converted to Christianity.
The most effective way to protect children in the country is to give them rights to ensure their safety, autonomy and dignity. Eugenics and laws to control reproduction will not do that. Crafting legislation with the help of child wellness experts is a better choice.
I should add - the US government STILL disproportionately targets Indigenous families for child welfare checks. ICWA is supposed to protect against this but is unevenly enforced, and there's even talk of overturning it. Protect ICWA and Indigenous children.
please vote for tylenol to have her face on a beer can $1 for 1 vote and the donation goes to the baltimore animal rescue and care shelter
TYLENOL HAS MADE IT INTO THE TOP TEN LETS FUCKING GO
VOTE NOW SO WE CAN SEE TYLENOL'S FACE ON BEER CANS IN THE DITCHES BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!!!
If you all will allow me a moment to analyze the competition as it exists, there's something interesting going on with the numbers.
As we all know, thanks to the support of the good people of Tumblr, Tylenol has experienced a meteoric rise to second place. Even though her competition is stiff, I believe in Tylenol's ability to go the distance.
But let's take a look at the competition:
Elmer seems to be a lovely boy. I have no qualms with Elmer, and think he would look fantastic on a beer can. But what about Elmer's campaigns? Who is the power behind the throne here, and how have they managed to find such breakout success on this competition?
A handful of wealthy donors are trying to buy this competition.
At the end of the day, all donations are good donations here. This is a charity event so every penny earned is going to help animals in need. But it's not lost on me that Elmer's current ranking is thanks entirely to a few individuals with the financial means to put their thumbs on the scale.
Tylenol's donors, comparatively, are small and numerous, mostly $1-10 donations from many passionate believers in what she stands for (autism and pain relief I think).
Overall, the donations tell a very different story than what the base ranking shows you. Elmer is held aloft by just 24 donors and bolstered by a few wealthy patrons, whereas Tylenol has won the hearts of literally hundreds of people. Even the current third place, Abby, owes her ranking to numerous small contributions rather than one or two large ones.
Tylenol is the people's princess.
Tylenol is the people's princess
Good news!
Tylenol is real! I love you Tylenol!
A vote for Tylenol is a vote for the people
The reason I exhaust myself every time I make finalized art is also the reason why an ai would be useless to help: changing the size, shape or position of a single facial feature by so much as 10 pixels changes the whole feeling of a design to me. Changing the exact angle of an arm by a couple of degrees can put it either too close or too far from the torso for me to stand. I want the eyeballs the way I want the eyeballs.
And the way YOU prefer to do the eyeballs, the kind of hair you like to draw, how you portray fabric wrinkles, how long you draw fingers, how *densely* you portray fabric wrinkles, how sharply you draw curves, what directions your fabric wrinkles most commonly swoop in, your favorite kind of coat buttons or beetles or tree bark to draw, all these things together make it possible for someone to recognize your work as just yours if they care enough about it.
And this truly does apply to each and every human artist, every time. What? You trained for 39 years straight specifically to draw exactly like Akira Toriyama? You only do on-model fanart of a single show? You ghost-illustrated for Stan Lee himself and his own editors never noticed? Nope, sorry, line all your work up next to what you're imitating and yours will still exhibit different trends, different ways of shaping leg muscles, different sets of favorite poses and angles, different pupil to sclera ratios, anything. Big enough fans of that artist will notice right away...and maybe so will big enough fans of *you* someday!?
This is true at ALL skill levels, at all points in life. No two toddlers scribble every kind of object the same way. It's not possible. It's just the way it is. A unique style isn't actually something you need to develop, but something you can't ever perfectly avoid if you try, and that one of a kind fingerprint is hands down the coolest, most amazing and fun part of art, the whole reason you have fun showing it off at all, the whole reason you have any favorite illustrators.
If you ask an ai *or* any other human being to draw your idea, then no matter how detailed your description is, it's not your art. Your visual language won't be used. Nobody will ever say "oh, I know who drew that instantly!" and be able to name you based on recurring shapes and colors or that quirky way you happen to design belt buckles.
Letting anyone or anything else take that away from you is awful. You may as well be invisible. Your concepts alone might be awesome, yes, but there's a certain way they are meant to look to just your own mind out of everyone on earth.

no dude it's so cool how attached you are to that character who is singled out and ostracized due to the external monstrousness that clashes with their internal spark of humanity. and i love how drawn you are to themes of horror and love, nature versus nurture, otherness, isolation, and the abject. i bet you have normal feelings about your own personhood

at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.
Games from older consoles are being made less and less available to the point so much of the industry's history could easily vanish without
Preserving classic videogames from consoles past.
I'm just gonna slide this on in here for anyone that is interested in preserving old games. They take it very seriously too, they want an archive of every single game. Like, they have lists of every game ever released for a system, and once that system gets old enough, they add it to their archive and start collecting. Their latest addition was the Xbox 360, they opened that vault up in September 2022, and proudly announced they'd finished their collection of games for it back in April.
Also, while their game archives are almost entirely complete, they've got another project of archiving the manuals that came with those games, and that is... considerably less well filled out. Their collection of Xbox 360 manuals is especially rough, they've only gotten manuals for three games. So if you've got some Xbox 360 games kicking around, and the manual's still with them, please consider scanning them and submitting them to the site!
Game preservation is important, but people rarely consider preserving the manuals as well; I really respect Vimm's Lair for being so thorough in their archival work.
I've been using Vimm's Lair for years, I have yet to see a single bad link or virus on the entire site. It's arguably the safest and most comprehensive archive of video games in existence. Preserved history
