This concept album began as part of a theme I was developing for the Webtrees genealogy software. Due to my interest in astronomy and Space exploration, they became the focus of my theme. Aside from selecting 25 related background images, I created this 23-song album called Astronomical Domain.
This album is an immersive experience which tells an abbreviated tale of human Space exploration from the 1969 Apollo Moon landing to the more recent Artemis missions.
Other than at the beginning of the 1st track, there are no words anywhere in the album. Simply close your eyes, use plenty of imagination, and let the music carry you away for the next 78 minutes.
The opening songs are fast-paced because humankind is aiming for the Moon, first with the 1960s Apollo program, and now again with the Artemis program.
The middle songs are softer, more mellow, ethereal and majestic as the crew journeys to the Moon, and then returns to the Earth.
The closing songs are fast-paced and exciting because the crew has victoriously returned home to experience the usual fanfare, the vision for Space exploration has been reignited, and Mars and beyond are next on humanity's agenda.
My hope is that you will be as inspired by this album as much as I was while creating it, and continue to be to this very day.
01 Apollo 11 Liftoff: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins blast off to the Moon in July of 1969.
02 Go for Artemis: Some 57 years later, the mission continues and the Artemis lunar program is given the go-ahead by NASA.
03 Earth Orbit: A tranquil orbit around our home world, and viewing it in all of its breath-taking beauty.
04 Breakaway: The TLI -- Translunar Injection -- burn now occurs to free the craft from LEO, that is, low Earth orbit.
05 Free At Last: Following the TLI burn, the spacecraft is free to begin its long journey to its lunar rendezvous.
06 Those Before Us: An appropriate, gentle tribute to the many astronauts who have preceded the Artemis crew.
07 Coasting: A quiet, peaceful and reflective part of the historic journey as the spacecraft draws ever closer to the Moon.
08 Camaraderie: A song inspired from watching the Artemis II mission feed & seeing the camaraderie of the Orion astronauts.
09 Psalm 19:1: "The heavens declare the glory of God" said King David. Indeed, they are undeniable proof of His existence.
10 Moonglow: Earth is behind them, and only the brilliant luminescence of the Moon lies ahead of the Artemis crew.
11 Oh Lovely Moon: Bathed in the glorious light of the Moon, the Artemis crew gaze in silent wonder at the silvery disk.
12 Around the Moon: The Orion spacecraft orbits the Moon in preparation for the approaching historic lunar landing.
13 To the Surface: The long-anticipated moment of descent to the Earth's nightly companion has finally arrived for the crew.
14 A Desolate World: So different from our life-giving planet, the Moon's barren reality gives one cause to be extremely thankful.
15 We Made It!: A moment of triumph as the Artemis crew achieves the 1st lunar touchdown in many decades.
16 Been Here Before: A reverential moment of reflection for the crew to remember the previous missions to the Moon.
17 Are We Alone?: The philosophical and theological question of the ages. And yet, is something else being hinted at as well?
18 Farewell Moon: The primary mission has been completed & it's now time to bid the Moon farewell so as to return to the Earth.
19 The Voyage Home: A sense of success, accomplishment and satisfaction filling their hearts, the crew coasts towards home.
20 Behold the Earth: After witnessing the bleak lunar surface, the crew is thankful as Earth's splendor fills their entire view.
21 A Job Well Done: Much fanfare and accolades greet the Artemis crew after another successful voyage into Space.
22 Renewed Vision: After 57 long years, the vision for Outer Space has now been restored and it is no longer just a dream.
23 Mars and Beyond: The Artemis missions are the first steps in a new era of human space flight.
