studied medicine while on base and was just short of a doctorate when he got out (8 years after getting in @ age 19)

when he got back he was different and didn’t care about saving lives as a profession. 

when matthew sr heard about how he saved oliver’s life a few times (and vice versa) he hooked him up with a job at handgunned

it was supposed to be a temporary thing but years passed and when someone got cut too deep or shot a lot they came to bill and soon he had a half functioning medical office in the basement so he stayed.

arms dealer for the public but specifically the o’haras cause loyalty

bill’s an apathetic dude with a soft spot for oliver so if oliver likes you he probably won’t shoot you it’d be counter intuitive anyway considering he’d have to stitch you up.

book smart and street smart but anything relating to pop culture past when he became a marine is probably lost on him.
