Here’s my #yorkpinafore I made from @helens__closet with this lovely rust corduroy I got at @scrap_rva. I made this beaut awhile ago but thankfully it’s finally cool enough to wear it. Now I just need to fix one of the pockets since I didn’t cut both of them going the same direction with the nap of the fabric. The back is also a different nap direction from the front, but I like the contrast. Next up is #seamworkleonora with slash pockets in this striped canvas (denim maybe? 🤷‍♀️) I found at @scrap_rva . Putting the back yoke on the crosswise cause, well, only have so much fabric and it will be a nice contrast. Excited to wear my #starwars t-shirt I made. This was a nice, quickish sew that made me less afraid of installing a neckband on a knit shirt. Pattern is #seamworkjane and fabric is from @joann_stores. The only alterations to the pattern I did was adding a tad more to the back armscye, forward shoulder, and tapered in the sides a smidge so it’s not a total rectangle. Gratuitous boob shot. So these bust days ended up MUCH longer than I thought. They were supposed to end at the X, but they ended up where they’re at. Maybe I marked it wrong after doing the full bust adjustment? I can’t decide if I’m going to leave these lines over my boobs or remake it. I’ll tell you a secret. When I would sew, I’d just plow through the assembly and then check the fit when it was 95% assembled. Now that I’ve been reading about fitting techniques (WHAT THE HELL TOOK ME SO FUCKING LONG?!?) I’m working on the fit throughout the assembly. This is the shoulder for the #coletteorbetto. I traced the pattern to tissue and did a broad back adjustment and a full bust adjustment. Then I cut it out of the fabric (woven cotton on top, linen rayon blend on bottom) and pinned the bits together and tried it on again. Due to the drape if the fabrics you can see I had to take up the shoulder more in the cotton than the linen. I’m glad I tried on both before doing the final sew. As some of you may know, I’m making a muslin of pants. I’m trying to get the fit better but I’m confused. So I need your #sewingadvice . Picture 1 is with no alterations. Pictures 2 and 3 are with the back legs brought in an 1/8” on the inseam grades down to the seam allowance 6” below the crotch. Do I need a full on flat butt adjustment? It looks like the last two pictures got worse. The other theory I have going is I didn’t cut with the grain line properly. #help

For a very long time I’ve avoided sewing pants with a zippered fly on purpose. Honestly they scared the crap out of me. But after sewing this zippered fly on these muslin pants, I feel much better. I have conquered my fear. I am certainly willing to practice this skill more. What will I sew next? Organza? Ha no. One step at a time. Next will probably be shorts or a jacket. For those that don’t know: sewing a muslin is when you practice assembling a pattern with muslin fabric. This way you lessen the chance of fucking up your nice fabric, and you can make adjustments to the muslin version before you sew your good stuff.
