actually pigs shouldn't be at pride even outside of uniform. fuck those guys
if you decide to become a police officer then that outweighs any other marginalised identity you can rustle up like. not sorry, who asked you to willingly become a pig
I have heard of black people warning their kids that the race of a police officer is cop and you should not expect solidarity from them. The same applies to other types of minorities.
The sexuality of a police officer is cop.
The gender of a police officer is cop.
When you become the enforcer and protector of capital, you are making the deal to be slightly favored by the system over others like you, in exchange for being its servant. Your solidarity is with the system that you serve, even if it hates you.
If you want solidarity with those the system hates, you cannot be the system's servant and defender.
similarly, the social class of a police officer is cop.
similarly, the
social class of a police
officer is cop.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
The species identity of cop robot dogs is pig
i think we should be talking about the semi-recent advancements in cystic fibrosis treatment like all the time every day. there hasn’t been a drug like this since AZT medications for HIV infection it is truly fucking miraculous and very important
basically: cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease which makes the mucous a person generates extra sticky. it used to kill people in infancy, then with advancements in medical tech it killed people in young childhood, and until very recently cystic fibrosis patients could expect to live until about thirty years old with consistent painful lung infections and complications.
in 2019 the FDA approved a drug called trikafta (which is really three drugs in one) for cystic fibrosis treatment. what it essentially does is patch up the malfunctioning proteins that cause the extra sticky mucus. trikafta is effective on about 90% of cystic fibrosis patients.
people who had spent their entire lives in and out of hospitals, on and off of ventilators, suffering from pneumonia and sometimes treated through painful procedures like intubation took this drug, got out of bed, coughed up an entire lifetimes worth of mucus out of their lungs over the course of a few hours, breathed clearly for perhaps the first time in their lives, and now go on to live well into their seventies.
like isn’t that insane. isn’t that amazing. doesn’t that give you hope for the future of medical advancements and treatment. fuck. i think about it all the time……
There’s a WHAT.
For WHAT.
It's been amazing!
My ward is the respiratory ward - CF is one of the things we specialize in.
Since this med came out we haven't had a SINGLE CF admission to the ward
There used to always be a CF patient spending a couple of months with us at a time
There's a man who is 23 years old who I was sure would not survive his next admission (aim saturations 85% is end stage lung disease)
There's a set of the local frequent flyers that we all know so well
Except
No we don't
On the CF specialist ward (with reasonable staff turnover)
Half the staff have probably never even seen a CF patient
They are going to live
For the people asking "well how do we know people are living that long if it's so new????" Here's a page from the CF foundation about life expectancy.
Additionally, it should be noted that metrics like life expectancy are in no way a guarantee of... Anything. There are significant outlier CF patients who are at an advanced age now despite the odds due to a variety of different factors, having lived the majority of their lives before the development of modulators.
But the fact remains that the odds are better now than they have ever ever been before, by leaps and bounds. It isn't cured, and many patients still need significant treatment in addition to Trikafta, but it is so much better than anyone could have dreamed of twenty years ago, and that is a triumph.
Yes! My sister has a serious form of cf and finally is living a more comfortable and active life. She was also part of many of the clinical trials leading to these breakthroughs due to the nature of her cf. It's been very exciting to see.
That's absolutely incredible. Don't get me wrong. It's miraculous from a clinical standpoint. But, uhh. Not to be a downer but I need people to see this so they stay angry and stay real about what medical breakthroughs actually mean for patients. When I call something "survival gatekeeping", this is what I mean:
That is per month with the most common coupon people are likely to use.
But don't worry, there's grants and patient assistance programs you can apply for. 🤞🫠 Most people in high income countries like the USA can get it "covered" through insurance for fewer thousands of dollars. Or even less if your insurance is good or the manufacturer likes how poor and/or on Medicaid you are! A good social worker will help you with the process, and make sure your yearly reapplications and PAs are done a little early so they have time to think about it before you run out. Jesus Christ.
NEVER look at something like this and navigate away feeling better about things without asking how much it costs and who can get it. NEVER. It isn't revolutionary until poor people can access it without a struggle.
Just saw somebody refer to highly disposable collectibles (labubus, funko pops, stuff like that) as "landfillcore" and I'm stealing that.
#Beanie babies were at least nice toys (via @tallgreenlady)
okay this has actually led me down the rabbit hole of the beanie baby environmental impact, and apparently the big problem is that they used to be stuffed with PVC pellets. the science in all that is REALLY over my head, but from what i can tell from wikipedia and some googling around, that's actually a suuuper nasty plastic to have your little kid potentially gnawing on. like, "may release noxious chemicals and give them lifelong respiration problems" nasty.
granted, the worst case scenario there is mostly from burning them, but you'll never guess what people commonly did after they became landfillcore.
The problem really isn't even the product itself, it's that we treat ravenously buying things like it's just a hobby, when in truth, it's also falling for propaganda and a failure to reduce consumption.
These companies are convincing people to buy as much useless, plastic crap as possible, crap that can't be reused (because it isn't useful in the first place) and won't be recycled (not that recycling them would even do much).
There's nothing wrong with buying things you enjoy; the problem is that the person with a room full of 3000 unopened Funko Pops isn't enjoying the figurines, they're enjoying buying and owning. It's buying things for the sake of buying things, literally the opposite of reducing.

As if Joanne couldn't get any shittier, she misgendered and insulted a woman who called for support, all because the woman had PCOS/PMOS and "didn't sound feminine enough."
Fuck her.
Your shitty children's series isn't more important than people's lives.
This would be equally as shitty if the woman who was misgendered and insulted was trans instead of having PCOS btw

Send me to Mars with party supplies before next august 5th
No guys you don’t understand.
The soil testing equipment on Curiosity makes a buzzing noise and the pitch of the noise changes depending on what part of an experiment Curiosity is performing, this is the way Curiosity sings to itself.
So some of the finest minds currently alive decided to take incredibly expensive important scientific equipment and mess with it until they worked out how to move in just the right way to sing Happy Birthday, then someone made a cake on Curiosity’s birthday and took it into Mission control so that a room full of brilliant scientists and engineers could throw a birthday party for a non-autonomous robot 225 million kilometres away and listen to it sing the first ever song sung on Mars*, which was Happy Birthday.
This isn’t a sad story, this a happy story about the ridiculousness of humans and the way we love things. We built a little robot and called it Curiosity and flung it into the star to go and explore places we can’t get to because it’s name is in our nature and then just because we could, we taught it how to sing.
That’s not sad, that’s awesome.
*this is different from the first song ever played on mars (Reach For The Stars by Will.I.Am) which happened the year before, singing is different from playing
This is humanity
Happy Birthday, Curiousity.
Happy birthday, Curiosity.
Happy birthday, Curiosity.
Happy birthday, Curiosity!
Happy birthday, Curiosity!💕
Happy Birthday, Curiosity
The rover is still operational, and as of August 4, 2026, Curiosity has been active on Mars for 4974 sols (5111 total days; 13 years, 363 days) since its landing (see current status). Via Wikipedia
Y’all.
To my utter surprise and joy, i have reached 1000 followers.
What the fuck y’all? I fucking love you guys.
💖💖💖
Anyway. I feel I should commemorate it or something. So.
I shall do a give-away!
Who wants a free quilt?!
Everyone. Everyone wants a free quilt.
I am even gonna pay shipping (yes even to the states) for you. This will be 100% free to you, you will not have to pay a dime.
How do you enter?
Everyone who reblogs this post will get one entry into the draw.
(Multiple reblogs is still only one entry, sorry 😂)
You don’t even have to be following me.
On August 20, 2026 I will turn off reblogs and put everyone’s names into the draw to pick someone. I’ll DM whoever gets drawn for option selection and shipping details.
Once that’s happened, I will turn the reblogs back on (just so people can keep sharing) and post the winner’s tumblr. If the winner doesn’t want to be perceived, I can just post which quilt was picked.
If, for some reason, I cannot get a hold of the winner after 24 hours, or they decide they don’t want it after all, I will do a second draw and try to contact that person.
Since everyone has a different tastes, I’ve decided to offer up a choice of quilts for the winner to pick from.
Option 1 is a 77”x103” queen size quilt made with a bright floral on a pastel dot background. It also has a soft and thick backing, making the quilt heavy and warm.
Option 2 is a 74”x94” skinny queen quilt in dramatic halloween colours and sugar skulls. The vibrant purple backing is beautiful!
Option 3 is a 89”x89” queen size rainbow stars on black background with a gorgeous teal backing. One of my favourites of all time, honestly.
Option 4 is a 84”x100” queen size space themed quilt with a royal blue backing and gold quilting.
Option 5 is a 85”x92” queen size red and gold chandelier quilt with a fun dark red/orange/pink backing.
Good luck everyone!

HERE IS AN INCOMPLETE LIST OF SPACES OFFERING HELP, COLLECTING DONATIONS, AND ACCEPTING MONETARY DONATIONS FOR HELPING THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES WHO HAVE BEEN DISPLACED BY THE WILD FIRES DECIMATING THEIR HOMELANDS
Thunder Bay, Ontario
•Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA), 1-800-667816, has been collecting physical donations of clothing, medicine, menstraul and infant care products, etc. They have temporarily paused collecting donations, but were looking for volunteers to help sort and disperse what has been collected. They are organizing cultural activities, and have existing programs that are being utilized, and are inviting evacuees to call them if they need help with anything.
•The Eshkiniigjik Naandwechigegamig Aabiish Gaa Binjibaaying Indigeous Youth Agency (aka ENAGB) was collecting hygeine, menstraul, safe sex, harm reduction, and other health products. They also invited the evacuees (aged 12-29) to use their space to keep cool, debrief, connect, and generally feel welcome.
Fort Erie, Ontario
•The Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre was collecing donations, and are currently NOT accepting more as they coordinate with those in need, but are a good place to keep an eye on - the evacuees are likely to need long term support over the next few months.
Toronto, Ontario
•The Eshkiniigjik Naandwechigegamig Aabiish Gaa Binjibaaying Indigeous Youth Agency (aka ENEGAB) was collecting items for their sister site in Thunday Bay, including air purifiers, tents, cell phones, power banks and chargers, art supplies for youth, etc.
They have also put a call out to evacuees who are coming to Toronto that youth (12-29) are welcome to utilize their spaces and programing, and invited families to their drop in programing for ages 0-6.
Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, Ontario
•The First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI) is organizing a donation drive to take place July 20 - 22, from 9am - 4pm. They are collecting new hygeine products, diapers, toys, blankets, pet supplies, gift cards, canes, mobility aides, etc.
UPDATE JULY 20, they are no longer accepting donations BUT are looking for volunteers (and boxes!) to help sort and pack over the next 2 days!! (In my experience, if you have packing tape, masking tape and black sharpies, those also help)
Six Nations, Ontario
•Local grassroots support has collected donations of items to take to evacuees who have come to Toronto. The community initiative is next looking at transportation of supplies, storing of items, etc. There have also been calls to organize visits to the community for the annual Champion of Champion's powwow, to provide dinners, drum circles, and other cultural supports.
UPDATE: JULY 21, the community has also provided donations to Fort Erie, are organizing more donation drives as evacuees continue to be placed in surrounding areas (just finished for Barrie)hosted another donation drive for Barrie, and are working to establish direct contacts with evacuee coordinators at each location to share for monetary donations. Transporation has been arranged for some of the Toronto evacuees to visit the territory for the Powwow weekend.
FOSTERING ANIMAL RESCUES
•Northern Reach Rescue (who normally work with Northern Ontario communities to fly dogs for fostering) has put out a call to rescue organizations across Southern Ontario to partner with their team. They have put out a call for fosters, and they have also created a gofundme.
•Matawa Animal Wellness Services, has been working with local rescues, shelters, and general community to ensure pet supplies are provided to those in need
Montary Donations
•For the Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (AKA Collins Lake First Nation, who after taking the initiative to ask were told there was no danger and they shouldn't have to be evacuated, and ended up fleeing by boat within hours, organizing their own rescue efforts for their community) donations are being collected by the Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity. donations are accepted via paypal, mailed in cheques, and via Canada Helps. (Canada Helps will issue tax receipts, and allow the option for monthly donations)
As the Namaygoosisagagun are sheltering in Thunder Bay, donations can also be dropped off in person at the Namaygoosisagagun Health Office, located at 135 Frederica East.
•For the Whitesand First Nation (whom were proportedly told NOT by the Ministry of Natural Resources, but by the provincial police, that they should be evacuated - which they knew they should be, because the community had reached out to the MNR and been told there was no need), you can e-transfer donations to [email protected]. If you would like a tax receipt for this, they ask that you add your full name in the etransfer comment section so they can issue you one.
• Mikinakoos Children's Fund, collecting funds for food, water, clothing and other essentials for evacuees
Other Ways of Supporting
• Support the call from the Chiefs of Ontario, who are urging the Provincial and Federal governments to ACT instead of hemming and hawing over whose jurisdiction it is to help the devastated and displaced communities. This includes collaboration and open communication with the community leaders throughout the recovery efforts.
• Educate yourself and be mindful: why are Indigenous communities disproportionately the ones being displaced by wildfires? What is being done to mitigate these disasters? How effective is the infrastructure in place? Why are the fires getting worse each year? Why is it that some communities "don't qualify" for the supports they need? What, historically, has so many of us with our backs up against a wall when we see this (perceived) failure to prevent and respond?
• It should be noted that the Ontario government has DECREASED its funding for fighting wildfires (among other questionable choices) year after year, despite the severity of the fires growing worse with each passing year. Ask your reps why. Demand they do better.
• Be an ally. There are people who are making racist comments about evacuees. There are business, in particular hotels, jacking their prices up. There are always people who will do this - hold them accountable.
• Remember that not only are the evacuees (or as some call themselves, climate refugees) facing great personal loss, MANY are coming from remote, fly in communities and being placed in big ass cities. This is a huge culture shock!!! If you're local to any spaces, find out if they need volunteers to guide them in city survival 101!
(Edit July 21: Please be aware that there may be hesitantancy about this due to safety and security concerns, particularly in regard to human trafficking. Do not take it personally - MMIWG is always a concern).
If you have a resource to add, feel free to do so.
holy shit its for real

i got inspired by antique furniture -> decided to try and make a wooden doll.
she is whittled entirely out of balsa wood with a craft knife, and colored with wood dye. the cabinet has miniature hinges made of tube beads and a metal rod, and closes with a magnet. she absolutely should hold a sentimental & important object, but i don't have any that are the correct size, so i just put in some cute trinkets.
sometimes you just gotta ask yourself, what would murderbot do?
likeliest answers:
-pirate media
-bribe someone (with pirated media)
-sit in a small confined space and watch media
-internally lament the stupidity of mankind
-help out
-repress some stuff
-begrudgingly stop repressing that stuff in order to unpack it
-complain the entire time
