It wasn’t until he’d gotten through the day had he realised what the date actually was and he felt as if a hand had reached into his chest and twisted his heart, and he realised how much of a piece of shit he really was. Nina’s birthday. Guilt twisted and churned in the pit of his stomach as he wondered how the hell he’d forgotten, it was the one date where he enjoyed remembering her, and how much she’d loved to celebrate birthdays – even if it wasn’t her own, she’d act like it was a joyous occasion that had to be celebrated. He ran a palm over his chin and sighed softly in disappointment, in himself, in how he’d failed her. The list went on. “How the fuck did I forget…” he murmured softly, not aiming his speech in any direction.
Bianca didn’t like to see people less than content, but she knew that wasn’t most people’s default. But when the man spoke out loud, she asked, “Are you okay? I don’t mean to intrude, you spoke and so just thought I’d ask.”
