i will completely level with you. i am not the cinephile a lot of people make me out to be. do i run a vintage hotties blog? yes. that's because the people in old movies are hot. unfortunately this does not mean my taste is good.

with that said here are some hot movies that i enjoy with hot smart women in them.

ball of fire (barbara stanwyck)—she's a hardbitten slang-slinging burlesque singer caught in a web of lies. he is a dork obsessed with linguistics. together they will live in a house filled with kindly professors and there will be some subplot involving the mafia. it's free on tubi [tubi].

his girl friday (rosalind russell)—rosalind is sick of her dipshit ex (cary grant) and is trying to settle down, get married, and leave the newspaper business. neither the newspaper business nor cary grant is ready for her to leave. content warning for a subplot involving the murder of a Black cop—nothing is shown onscreen but it's discussed. holiday (katharine hepburn)—katharine has always been the whimsical absurdist sister so isn't put off at all by her sister's whimsical absurdist fiance, except oh no maybe two whimsical absurdist people are going to fall in love (whimsically, absurdly). this one is a bit wistful combined with the smart ass remarks. all about eve (bette davis, anne baxter, celeste holm, thelma ritter)—bette's back. this is for if you like your smartasses to also be new york city theatre snobs. [the internet archive]

the philadelphia story (katharine hepburn, ruth hussey)—I always rec this one. ruth is more your speed for the smartass quotient but katharine won't let you down either. [tubi]
