Given what we know about this creative team, I have a feeling this is going to be a case of Korra about to defeat her BBEG at the cost of triggering the calamity. I doubt they would say she wanted this to happen and honestly Korra going out protecting the world and leaving it changed forever, while smirking at her enemy is the Most Korra thing you can do.
