FACTORY Weekly ep. 4 - PMVI- The Papier Mache Video Institute
PMVI- The Papier Mache Video Institute,  New Haven’s premier DIY avant-garde artists collective that hosted the legendary “1984” exhibition, the largest Elm City underground art show in the 1980s. Â
For New Haven’s 350th anniversary festival coordinator Bob Gregson contracted local artist Bev Richey for an interactive cake experience. Richey’s A-mazing Bureaucratic Birthday Cake (Serving the People 3500 Pieces…) drew artists, activists, lawyers, civic administrators, and their friends into the weeks of bureaucratic planning needed to share thousands of cake slices on the Green in June 1988. Join Jeff Burnett, Roberta Chambers, Bitsie Clark, Nikila Cole, Mimsie Coleman, Bill Derry, Bob Gregson, John Landino, Bev Richey, and more for an A-mazing reunion as they share memories, stories, and lessons from the experience.
This 3 min video explores my early avant-garde career co-directing PMVI focusing on the legendary The ONE NIGHT ONLY “First Show of 984” in 1984 This now-legendary Exhibit drew over 700 people waiting in line and is considered to be “...the largest Elm City underground art show in the 1980s."
