boyfriend's quail photos have reached perhaps a lifetime peak today
The great massif of the Superstiton Mountains rises abruptly from the desert flats near Apache Junction, Pinal County, Arizona.
Our Flag Means Death has some wonderful transitions but I was thinking today about the moment the show really hit me personally. I had really enjoyed the first few episodes, but in Discomfort In a Married State we see Stede trying but failing to fit in at home with his family, clearly unhappy. Trapped on a path he hates. Dreaming of a life on the ocean but being told ‘no’.
In a flashback we see him standing at the mirror, taking off his nightgown and looking at himself as if asking “who am I?”. There's a candle behind him, it's light mostly hidden, like the real Stede is in his old life.
We then see him in his hallway, bag and coat in his arms, lit by that bright candle standing proudly in the foreground. Light. Clarity. Stede openly starting that journey to discover who he is.
Then, as he turns full circle, we see him on the Revenge in the early morning as dawn breaks. A new day, a new life.
It’s a wonderful transition and this is where the show really knocked me for six. Stede was so brave in that moment, leaving everything he knew for a life he has dreamed of yet really knew nothing about. But he was strong enough to take that risk and it is why I will always love Stede Bonnet with my whole heart. That moment changed me. All of us are travelling through our lives as best we can. We have responsibilities, obligations, and we can let ourselves be overwhelmed by them – forget even who we were before those responsibilities took over. Stede’s bravery encouraged my own. In seeking out a new life, a new community and friendship, Stede Bonnet encouraged me to do the same. I returned to an old community and in this show I also found a new one, with new friends. It’s no exaggeration to say that this show made my life so much richer and I will be forever grateful.
I said this post was about transition, and that’s exactly what it is. A transition from one life to another, accompanied by wonderful cinematography and set dressing. It’s glorious and it's inspiring. Thank you so much Stede Bonnet and the 'behind the scenes' crew.

I don’t wanna get involved in the drama I just wanna know 103% of the information on what happened
i simply need everyone to understand that i am tired all of the time. literally at all moments. if i ever go somewhere and do something, it is not because i am somehow full of energy, but instead that i have carefully stored up all of my little bits of energy like a dragon collecting jewels, and am now vaporizing them all at once
From experience, I feel like when someone whose not a close friend or relatives takes it upon themselves unprompted to "help" someone struggling with their mental health, it rarely seems to be from a place of genuine concern and feels more like having a savior complex. Like sorry, I'm not fucking project you can pick up as your good deed for the day, and they get so mad when I'm not eternally grateful. But their "help" is basically just repeating generic mental health platitudes because they have 0 context of what's going on and then get frustrated when that doesn't cure me of a lifetime of mental illness. Like I think it's nice and fair enough to maybe one time politely be like "hey, I hope you're okay. I'm thinking of you, let me know if you need anything" to someone you're not close with but singlehandedly deciding you want to save a random person and thinking you know better than them about what they need is overstepping and just makes things worse because they then have to extend energy and look like an asshole for trying to tell you that it's not your place to intervene.
"Help" as "attempt to punish people into conformity" is far too widespread both in and outside psychiatry

Might I add, free database of mostly European folklore and myths
A Book of Creatures by @a-book-of-creatures doesn't update these days but is another thing along these lines, really huge, fully illustrated all by the author and cites all sources
Whispering Books has illustrated fairy tales and folklore from around the world! You can even find some Native American ones too. The site's links don't seem to work anymore, so here's an archived version on the Wayback Machine.
