battle couples has gotta be one of my favorite tropes though. The “you got me?” “Yeah, I got you.” The kiss for good luck. Fighting alongside each other for so long they know every strength and weakness. The dichotomy of being fucking terrifying to their enemies, but so soft with each other. When one is in danger and the other goes feral, protects them at any cost. When everything is over and done, it’s all “let me see where you’re hurt,” and washing off the dirt and blood.

I just fucking love love love when a narrative shows me a character who is an insufferable and badly behaved bully being propped up by an even shittier familal authority figure assuring them that they are a Special Princess who deserves to walk all over everyone else, and then the narrative pulls back a little and shows me that in fact the love and support of that authority figure is Deeply Conditional and Finite and this bully is both aware of it and haunted by that knowledge. Their Special Princess Swagger is PAPER thin

so genuinely donna noble as a character is so important to me. she’s a woman who’s bad at holding down a job and who’s loud and brash and who thinks she’s stupid. but the narrative makes a point to say that she is worthy of love, and she gets a best friend with no romantic tension and a loving family. her voice is established as an important influence on the doctor time and time again. her actions prove that she IS smart, and she IS worthy of respect, and she learns how to ask for it. she gets to be the most important woman in the world without being a “perfect” woman and that just makes me so happy

hollanov combo chirps are a diabolical thing. shane will provide the stat and ilya will provide the drama in a quick one two that not a damn player on the league is immune to. shane will go 'last season your average for ice time was roughly 13 and a half minutes. this year you've been coming in at 9 and half.' n ilya will go 'because you spent your preseason skipping praccy for divorce court, yes? sounds like your coach does not trust you to play well for your team anymore. i have for a while been using stepping on somebody's toes as a metaphor for misgendering. and i genuinely think that it's kind of a good one.

if you give a grovelling begging apology after accidentally stepping on somebody's toes one time you're going to make the whole thing awkward, but not giving a quick "sorry" before moving on is still kind of rude.

I know the “Vane called Flint gay for living in a house” thing is funny but I think in all seriousness Vane was calling Flint a class traitor for living in a house which is in some ways much funnier
