These shrapnel fragments fell near our place of refuge yesterday. For those who don’t know, they are small parts of a shell’s structure that spread widely after it detonates. They are extremely hot and have sharp edges like blades. I recall during my time working at the hospital, after every attack, the most challenging cases we faced were the ones involving these shrapnel injuries. Most of the victims were from homes near the targeted areas, and unfortunately, in many cases, their injuries resulted either in complete paralysis due to direct spinal cord damage or internal bleeding in the brain or organs, both of which are difficult to treat given the severe shortage of resources caused by the war.

My little brother has always been an excellent student, passionate about learning, and worked hard to be the top of his class. Every year, he eagerly awaited the start of the school year. But now, Every day, he wakes up to the sound of bombs instead of the school bell. While children around the world prepare to go to their classrooms and meet their friends, my little brother remains at home, deprived for the second year in a row of the chance to learn because of the war.

War doesn’t just take homes and lives, but also steals children's dreams and their future. my brother wishes to return to his school, where he felt safe, and to live his childhood like other children around the world, instead of enduring a daily reality filled with fear and waiting ..

He’s always checking on me and sending WhatsApp messages whenever he can.

He is so adorable and does not deserve to go through such a horrible experience.

These photos are of Ezzideen’s family; he sent them to me to consult with a dermatologist here in Germany because there are no dermatologists left in North Gaza. Skin diseases are spreading in Gaza, especially among children.

His family is suffering from these diseases, and there is no medical care, no medicine, no soap or water available, and when medicine is available, it’s expensive.

I struggle to put it into words, it’s not merely the war, but how our lives flipped in a single night. How our dreams crumbled so suddenly.

It’s profoundly difficult. It stretches beyond the scenes on the news, deep into the heart. It’s about the excruciating wait for a text from someone you love, the unending sense of helplessness, and the worry that never sleeps.
