I would put my trust in God If he were there to lean against But now our trust is placed Begrudgingly upon Trump and Pence And in the years to come, friends Let us not forget We're the ones who pay the taxes We're the one who will build the fence "A wall" they say to my dismay But here is my defense Barriers or separations Never strengthen friends
SHOWERBEER
If you still miss me
Then stop Do whatever you can And stop I clearly wasn't worth it And if that isn't clear Then forfeit Every pleasant memory Because the rest of me Is worse And sharing pleasantries Won't work I know what I've done We challenged the sun Our time wasn't fun And our lungs Are worn out Just breath now And know I don't define you Just find Truth Whatever it is Get married; have kids And live. Above all; just live.
War Games
All is fair in love and war, And really, what's the difference? I've had to deal with both before, Like kissing you for instance Barbed wire trenches, guts and gore Grenades and bayonets Warm park benches, clothes on floors Cliched silhouettes I, a paratrooper, taking fire from below You, a bedspread Cupid, taking cover in the snow When armies clash, Do you blame the mass Of bodies left behind? Or simply mourn A lovers scorn, The fate of humankind Each city burned A lesson learned The earth still turns in space Let man progress Love nonetheless The game of chess, embrace
Harts.

I've Been The Moon
It never matter how many circles around her I ran It wasn't my pull that kept her in the sky It never mattered how many nights I stood by her Showing her the light For her my light was a sad imitation of the one who brightened her days Yet I stayed aloft Driven by the hope in her oceans I clung to the knowledge that in some small way I was important to her orbit But on the nights when her creatures came from the darkness to call to me I wanted nothing more than to howl back Nothing more than to return the lonely cries To tell her that I know how it feels to revolve around a heavenly body With no hope of touching
I can't look at the moon anymore
I’m so tired of losing sleep over conversations I bowed out of, and all of the text messages I never sent. Every evening, I toss and turn, writhing in my own skin. Memories of broken bones and loose teeth haunt my dreams. You sleep peacefully in another city, under the same moon. After all these years, that’s all we still share. Every morning, my feet touch the floor, and I’m sick with the dreadful fear that I am what you say I am. It’s not my fault you were born so angry. I just wish I had never tried to fix you.
Starlight
What she wanted What she needed Was a sun Something around which to orbit But I couldn't light her world I existed light years away She could only admire my light In the darkness I had burned out long ago
What's Your Favorite Color?
For years I'd say Blue And it was true My love grew with every hue Of optimistic gloom Even painted my room The darkest shade the store made Couldn't hate the rain The way the sky changed To the grayest parade Of glum navy waves As if to depict It's capacity to tint And keep my interest fixed Until the day the dawn betrayed The hazy way the heavens layed The firmament burning With willpower learned Tangerine! Amber! How Helios churned! Each stroke awoke A long buried hope To hold safe and close Until the days close When dusk says You must bed Just as you arose Tomorrow you'll learn What the golden sun knows
Enough!
I went to the balcony I looked off the edge And it was just not far enough A few toy cars and a city bus But it was just not far enough Time seemed to slow when I flicked my butt But it was just not long enough It came to a head and I stood on the cusp It was just not steep enough So if I take that leap If I just give up I hope I'll have done enough

Closure?
I’ve seen this all before
I’ve been lured
To impure blurbs from
The core of my unsure
Heart
But you were my other part Whether half or more
You had cured my slur
For the moment
And I’ll hold it
In place of holding you
Because holding you back
Is all I ever knew
With charms and arms
And smoke alarms
And selfish actions
That I still do And you
Act like it was never true
I can live with myself even
If I don’t want to My lines are written to be read between
Everything I said out of love I still mean
And I’m not out searching for someone new
I’m just looking for the man that met you
Clean your wounds and stay sober
Because only septic cuts scar over
Concrete Pioneer
I'm the opposite of every man that I have ever seen her with I can't grow facial hair and I listen to rap music She sees a city slicker drowning slowly in a fifth I'm stifled under light pollution, burns and cuts and bruises She's never seen me pick up my beaten old guitar Build a fire under the stars in the greatest of outdoors Gut the trout I spent five hours to catch and cook and char Sleep on dirt or grass and never think to ask for more My soul is older than the coldest boulders that rolled into the riverbed There's a bearded pioneer in here who seemed to disappear but never fled Don't judge covers.
Resolution
New year, same me. Same fears, same sheets. Same peers, same feats. Unclear career preserves Blather rinse repeat
Poet Season (Snow Angels)
When Mother Nature pulls the covers over her head
Perennials tucked into cold flower beds
In the vicious breeze, the snow has touched down
Branches frozen like the legs of this town
Dazzling stardust against depths of black
Challenging war-lust with calming white flack
Loquaciously gracing vaporous interactions
Brief meetings steamed in layers of passion
Peace to the people of all walks and ways
Embrace the frost that mocks sunny days
Rest in the blessed mess and be refreshed
Find Seraphim within dwindling skin undressed
Socializing
Pass the talking stick to the tall-walking pricks taking bong hits through chapped lips
I live more slap-stick and the fact is I find cracked ribs comedically tragic
When the last's lit those fast kids can't match this careful ad-lib
Past a black basket, a charred chalice, plaque can't grasp it for all marred malice

Freedom And Falsity (Sweets)
Guess I was more sensitive than him in a lot of ways
From the head to the heart, to your body's beckoning gates
Your place is laced with traces of playful shame
My pride is tried and bides it's time by climbing dames
Guess you had less heart in your chest than I had believed
Between the meaningless phrases and polyester sheets
Sweet treats and brief meets to keep my feet planted
Romantic gestures to frantic lectures left me platonically stranded
Guess I was farther gone than I knew at the timeÂ
More honest than ever, yet more feeble of mind
Lines rhymed through shining blinds to rewind crimes I'd committed
The slack was tracked back, in fact my shackles are still fitted
Guess I never left the cell that was built to keep me tamed
The ruse of comfort your presence brought had become my chains
The rain came, flooding drains with blame, pain and deceit
The truth of potent youth was proof i haven't the tooth for sweets
