“Here you go sir“ I smile but it’s hard. He looks so run down. “Bless you young man” He smiles. I can see he’s missing a tooth. I set down his food and a drink and move quickly back to the kitchen area. The shelter is moving at a fast pace - everyone is hungry. Some of the patrons are loud and cause trouble but most are quiet and polite. The head chef, a large woman, barks orders and keeps everything running smoothly. She’s kind with a huge smile but I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side. —— I’ve put a number of hours in volunteering at various homeless shelters around the bay area. I wouldn’t trade that time for anything… it was such an amazing experience and it took me so far outside my comfort zone. Since Christmas is just a few days away, I wanted to make this Christmas themed especially since the holidays are a time when many people think about giving back. I hope you do. A piece of art I did to scratch my zero waste art itch. I’m a huge video game nerd and I was watching some twitch streams of Life is Strange and Sonic Mania. I think the colors of Sonic and Arcadia Bay blended into this piece. I was kind of imagining this might be a place where Max and Chloe might live in the future.
