You guys remember that period of time between 2000 and 2010 where a bunch of cartoons were like "Man... Martial arts are awesome!"
Bearcatmon is awesome!!
Bro why did it took them this long to debute this character? 😭 How many episodes do we still have left? Are we still gonna have time to do everyone's ultimates? I wanna see her ultimate so bad!! 😩 This evolution line has had zero bad designs so far, I hope they keep this up. 🙏🏼
Since Code Lyoko is coming back for a new season, I have a small confession to make...
Something about this show that I always had the hardest time grasping was the fact that Yumi was the leader of the group.
It's weird cause there were some episodes where the evil computer thingy would go out of its way to go after her in particular, like that one time it took over some sort of satellite cannon to shoot at her or when it took over a giant teddy bear and crashed a party she was attending, and sometimes the Jetix commercials for this show would say stuff like "Go on adventures with Yumi and her friends!"
And I would just sit here and go... Why her?
It wasn't until I read Yumi's description in a kids' magazine that stated she was the leader that made me go, "She is??" I thought they were doing a Xiaolin Showdown thing where the team just didn't have a leader.
And I felt so bad for feeling like this cause Yumi is a cool character and has a cool design but she just never gave me the leader vibe in the slightest. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention enough but I can't recall her having many leader moments or guiding the team into victory. I just remember her usually being the first one to get deleted whenever they went into combat.

"What could you have done differently to save any of them?"
"I don't know. I just needed to be better. They needed me to be better."
"Don't you see? Even when we do everything right, bad things still sometimes happen. There are some things we have the power to control, but the hardest thing to admit, especially for people in our line of work, is that sometimes, we're…"
"Powerless."

This is what being a fan of Fujimoto sounds like sometimes...
Absolutely love this girl btw. ❤️ She has so many great reactions.

"You try so hard to play the big, bad villain, but your heart's never been in it, has it?
People have hurt you, haven't they?
They didn't believe in you.
They didn't trust you.
Didn't need you. Left you.
But did you ever stop to think maybe they're not the problem?
It's you. You drive them away, wildcat.

"I will have vengeance for the betrayal of my clan, vengeance for my pain."
"But who betrayed your clan?"
"And who caused this pain?"
"The Vikings destroyed my clan."
"Who betrayed the castle to the Vikings?"
"The Hunters hunted us down."
"Who created the Hunter?"
"Canmore destroyed the last of us."
"Who betrayed MacBeth to Canmore?"
"Your thirst for vengeance has only created more sorrow... End the cycle."

"I know you play like you're the meanest and the hardest but actually you're the most scared of all.
You push away anyone who's willing to put up with you 'cause just a little bit of love reminds you of how big and empty that hole inside you actually is."

"Is it your *own* destiny, or is it a destiny someone else has tried to force on you?
It's time for you to look inward, and start asking yourself the big questions. Who are you? And what do you want?"

"You don't owe it to yourself man, you owe it to me. Cuz tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and I'll be 50, and I'll still be doin' this sh*t. And that's all right. That's fine.
I mean, you're sittin' on a winnin' lottery ticket. And you're too much of a p***y to cash it in, and that's bulls**t. 'Cause I'd do f*ckin' anything to have what you got."

"Let me tell you something you already know.
The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.
But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody!
Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!"
Very pleased with how respectful the Daemons of the Shadow Realm community has been so far when it comes to manga spoilers.
By that I mean, I haven't seen anyone mention or reveal any major plot point even though we're ten episodes in. Truly night and day compared to something like the "Invincible" community.
This is good because a lot of these fights have some really out of the box moments when it comes to the decisions the characters make to achieve victory and it's been really fun to be surprised by each of them every time. Hope we can continue this.
For instance, I'm not sure if/ when our main lead will obtain this "seal" power, and I want to keep on the dark cause I assume if this moment does come I want to keep its impact. And also stuff like who's good, who's bad, who's on our side who's not, I'm enjoying not having clear answers to that.
For all I know, they'll pull a twist that Asa is the final boss of the series. Wouldn't that be something?
Something fun about watching Digital Circus discussion videos is learning a bunch of different computer facts that are spread out throughout the show that I would probably never come across in my life.
Like, I didn't know Caine's name was a reference to the first programming computer, never heard about Daisy Bells or the Chinese Room theory, or the Heider and Simmel animation.
This was a show that was genuinely interesting and fun to learn more about when it comes to real life influences.
After reading Fire Punch, this was the page that kept stuck in my head after all these years
I keep thinking about it and how they relate to the narrative of Chainsaw Man in the sense that Denji in that series never really had an actual adult figure to guide and properly educate him.
He had Aki acting as an older brother, trying to protect him, he had Kishibe teaching him how to be a hunter, and he had Asa teaching him some common sense... But he never really had a true father or mother figure to really educate him into becoming a proper adult.
Most of the adults in this series were either trying to manipulate, trick, use, or take advantage of his naivety so they could exploit his Chainsaw powers.
The closest thing Denji had to an adult figure actually trying to take care of him was probably Pochita. That orange dog tried to had Denji think about what he wanted, why he wanted it, if it was good for him or not, how he should go about obtaining it... Tried to fight to keep him safe, tried to help him find himself whenever he was lost, and was even ready to sacrifice himself for his sake.
But at the end of the day, he was still just his friend, not his father, so there was only so much he could do or so much he could teach. And as the series went on, this lack of education kept becoming an even bigger harm to Denji as he started to develop this mindset that as long as he had Pochita, he could deal with anything.
Similar to how Wolverine doesn't care about getting stabbed cause he knows he can heal, having Pochita made Denji think he didn't need to learn or grow because he would always have his best friend to rely on.
And it seemed like Pochita had also realized his own presence was halting Denji's development, which led to his decision at the end of the series. It's why the series ends with Denji finally being able to truly succeed in helping the girl he never could, even with Pochita by his side after he finally managed to part ways with him.
We can see in small things, like how in the new world that trashy teacher who was grooming a schoolgirl remained dead, or in the Aging Devil arc with those old men who wanted to sacrifice kids for immortality, or even Makima herself and her whole plot in part 1 about manipulating Denji. This series hates people who fail to educate and protect children, and instead try to take advantage of them.
Denji's education on how to become a proper hero and on how to properly be truly happy was finally allowed to start after a responsible "adult" finally decided to show him the way by sacrificing himself, even if it might not have been something he wanted, but it was something he needed.
Some people were upset that Denji "lost his agency" or "didn't choose to get better himself and instead had the decision made for him" but I think that's kinda the point. At the end of the day, he was a kid that nobody ever took responsibility for, and finally, in the end, Pochita decided to step up and take responsibility himself.
Chainsaw Man is a series that likes to show you some of the worst aspects of the world, so you can learn to value even more the importance of the best aspects of the world, and now that Denji is free from the worst, he has a chance to experience the best.

So now that "Obsession" is on screen and making people realize how creepy the whole trope of "forcing someone to fall in love with someone else" is, can we talk again about how weird the resolution to that one Love God episode of Gravity Falls was?
Genuinely the biggest "what were they thinking??" moment in that show for me.
Imagine if for some reason this is your introduction to Chainsawman and you just see in the end corner "Defeated Santa Claus."
Honestly, the entire Denji section is just begging to make people go "The heck is Chainsawman even about???"
This might be one of those videos where it could be fun to see blind reaction videos to it. 🤔
