Community Care and Activism:
Meeting On Self-Care and Activism (November 6th, 2017)
Self-Care:
Do weekly check-ins with yourself and need to care for yourself first so that you do not burn out and keep the community alive
Journaling, Meditating and Talking it out are all examples and ways to make sure you are taking care of yourself
Know when to step up and step back- hard to do because we feel like we have to do it always
Know your boundaries and how maxed out you are for the week, know your limitations.
Hold yourself accountable- make sure you maintain your boundaries and that you do not set off taking care of yourself
Organization:
Google Calendar
Accountability
Checklists
Post its!
Create self-set deadlines
Allows for self-boundaries, hard to do as students because life is hectic
Limit tasks to certain time periods
Do not continuously do stuff, we kind of die after too many hours of focusing on one thing
Needs, Needs, Needs:
Communicate with your community what you need
Hard to do when in leadership positions, but you gotta do it!
Telling people âyou need this weekâ
Exchange your needs
Exchange needs, give a hug and take a back scratch?
But say âfuck youâ if you do not get anything in return
Outsource to other communities
Know when you cannot commit
Be conscious of others needs
Sustainability:
Take time away from the toxic people and places in your life
Leave and get out! Go home? Go off campus? Run!
Take days off for self-care and healing from illness
You cannot get better if you donât take time off

So many ways to get invested in each other, but also how we can continue to develop and create activists in order to create a sustainable community
Activism Is:
Self Care
Protesting
Building and maintaining a significant knowledge base
Speaking up against injustices within your community/against your community
Caring for others
Letting others step up while you step back
Let people learn how to do it and this makes it more sustainable and how we can set examples for the future
Teaching others
