At seven years old, I began building the wall around my heart, with myself as the only person with entry access.

At seven years old, I learned the skill of just getting by.

At twenty-three years old, not much has changed.

My future used to terrify me because I never knew how much control I would have over it. I never knew in what direction the dominos would fall. I feared how each and every decision of mine would impact the rest of my life.

With time, I’ve slowly began to let life take its course as I guide the sails. With patience, I have found that each day brings its own successes, challenges, triumphs and failures. With love, I have found that no matter how many times I fall, I will always have the strength to get back up. With her, I have found that even if I do nothing else right, she is my one good thing, she is the one thing I have done right.
