Cursed.

Anna: Oh wow, all the way up to Maine huh? I can find a way, promise. I mean.. I have my parents cars here still.. It’d be worth it. Adam, it doesn’t have to be Romantic. I just miss you. We could meet at McDonalds and I would still be the happiest person. 

Anna: Love is an open door, we just have to keep it open. 

Anna: It’s been close to four months since  .. the engagement and you had to go away.  I am very thankful for New Years .. even if it was too quick. 

Anna: I wish you knew how much that meant to me that you still think about me. 

Anna: Okay.. do you want me to make a room reservation ? Or was there somewhere else you’d like to meet? 

Anna smiled a little sniffling slightly as she held her phone close to her. It was the closest she was going to get to having her Adam with her. 

Anna: I know you’re horrible at it. And times like these it makes things.. annoying. I still love you though! 

Anna: I just.. It’s been four months Adam, and this is the second time we’ve spoke.. I just need small things like ‘i’m okay’ when it gets bad like this. I’m not asking for everyday.. just.. a little something here and there to keep me going. 

Anna: Do you really.. I mean .. think about me all the time still? Even after being apart for so long? 

Anna: Oh… okay.. Hey, hug your phone right now.. cause I’m probably hugging mine and you sound like you need know <3. 

Anna: When you can escape.. maybe we can have a late Valentines Day? We’ve never been normal, why would we celebrate the holiday normally (: 

Adam: It hasn’t been four months, we were together on New Years. Then again, I’m not sure that counts. 

Adam: I do, I think about you all the time, it’s ridiculous. 

Closing her eyes she took in a deep breath. Rather she was hearing them, or reading them those three words still changed everything in an instant. 

Anna: I love you too, Adam. And I miss you like crazy. 

Anna: It’s just getting harder.. 

Anna: I just don’t want to turn into an inconvenience, or lose you.  We should let the anger get to us like this.. at least not towards each other. Do you think you could sneak away anytime soon? 

A warmth spread in his chest when she read that she loved him. 

Adam: You aren’t the inconvenience, everything else is. 

Adam: I’ve never been very good at opening up or reaching out in the first place and I’m sorry. I think about you all the time, I’m obsessed with you. 

Anna hugged the phone close to her. If she had only just kept her mouth shut they wouldn’t be fight. There were so many what if’s in her mind. Mostly what if he was seeing they weren’t going to be able to make this work out. Letting herself have a well needed cry till she fell asleep. The sound of her phone going off woke her up. Reading over the text her heart skipped. Truthfully she didn’t expect to hear from Adam . At least not for another few months it seemed. 

Anna: I don’t want to fight.

Anna: I didn’t mean anything I said. I was just scared. I’m sorry

Anna: Please don’t be mad at me. 

Anna: Don’t let me go. 

He bit his lip, inhaling sharply, the back of his eyes stinging as tears threatened to form and fall. He hated this, he hated that he couldn’t speak to her. 

Adam: I could never, I love you.

Adam: I’m scared too. All the time. None of this is easy. 

Anna didn’t want to start crying but she did anyways and for a change she felt like she had nothing to say.

Anna: I want to be a part of your world Adam . I’m not saying text me when shit hits the fan, but when it’s over ? Yeah , I’ll be selfish and wish you would just tell me your okay when things aren’t life threatening.

Anna: I stare at a phone all day .. for practically four months. I understand this is a part of us that I need to remember but .. it’s so hard.

Anna: I’m so scared to hear from you cause I’m terrified you’re going to tell me you’ve given up , or that I should give up. Or that you’ve fallen out of love. And then things like this happen… she can be there for you . She was . And I.. I’m so useless and disconnected .

Anna: yeah .. sure. I’ll be here if you can . If not , night .

Anna debated leaving it at just that . But given she wasn’t sure when she’d hear from him again she slipped out another text through her messy fit.

Anna: I love you ..

He looked down at the phone, shaking his head bitterly. He couldn’t understand why she didn’t understand. His world was not a fairytale, it was a place on the edge of a Lovecraftian horror story, he was a Lovecraftian horror story and a ghost story all mixed up into one. He barely belonged in his world and he got the impression that with all the cataclysmic drama happening, this world was rejecting them as well. Then again, perhaps it wasn’t all that Lovecraftian, he’d always thought before that the power of magic made them untouchable by mere no-maj mortals but that didn’t seem to be the case anymore. 

He put the phone away as he caught sight of someone looking at him too long. Later that night as he was holed up under his blankets he sent another text. 

Anna flinched just from reading his words. Were they having their first fight? The girl knew it was just her frustration with everything being driven in the wrong direction, but she couldn’t help but reread over how he said his home and school… his.. It just stamped in her head that she didn’t really have a place in his world even more. Sighing she kept that to herself though. 

Anna: You’re right.. I shouldn’t have gotten upset. Sorry. 

Anna: I’m just glad you’re alright. 

Anna: It’s okay if you meant it that way. You’re right.. I just.. don’t have a place in your world to understand. 

Anna: Other things like her?

Anna: I should let you go then. In case Forte’s watching, or  anything. I just wanted to be sure you were okay. I just .. needed to hear something from you. 

Anna:Talk to you later?  maybe? idk.  

He shook his head...

Adam: You have every right to be upset. None of this is easy. 

Adam: My world is overrated, I don’t think not having a place in it is the worst thing in the world. That was always going to be a part of us, remember? I told you from the very beginning. 

Anna didn’t mean to roll her eyes, but she did. And instantly cringed annoyed with her own self. 

Anna: You can’t keep me shut out of everything, Adam. I deserved to know don’t you think? 

Anna: You’re missing the point… 

Anna: It’s bad enough you’re turning into a stranger, but to have to know you’re in danger from her? Is that how it’s going to be from here out? I wouldn’t have felt as useless if you just.. didn’t get the door shut in my face.

Anna: What about after? You couldn’t have sent a simple I’m okay? 

Anna: You don’t need privacy to tell me you’re safe, Adam. You have no idea how worried I was, or does that even matter anymore? 

He scowled at the phone

Adam: Do you think I don’t feel bad about this? That I don’t see how it’s fucked up?

Adam: I’m sorry for not being immediately concerned with your feelings while my school, my home was in danger.

He paused and took a deep breath, shaking his head at himself. 

Adam: I didn’t mean it like that. I’m sorry. You’re always a priority but this time it wasn’t you who was freaking out or in danger. 

Adam: And I do need privacy to text you. Forte is still watching or maybe he isn’t but considering what happened last time with him...not to mention the attention texting a no-maj will get me after our school was just attacked by no-majs. 

It took Anna only a couple hours to talk herself into clicking the send button. Anna could only handle silence for so long, and nearly two months was too much for her. So she quickly clicked the send and tossed it across the bed. || @beast-i-am

Anna: I’m sorry to bother you, but .. are you okay? 

Anna: I’d rather hear it from you than your fiance. I thought maybe I at least deserved that. 

He winced when he got the text. 

Adam: I hoped you wouldn’t have had to hear about that

Adam: It wasn’t devastating or it could have been worse

Adam: I didn’t want you to have to worry about something you couldn’t change.
