“「ほめる」よりも何よりも「驚く」は伸びる、と私は考えている。「ほめる」は、たとえ「結果」ではなく「プロセス」をほめたとしても、外面的に起きた現象（机に向かっていたとか）に着目しがち。そのために、勉強してるフリ、机に向かってるフリ、プロセスを頑張ってるフリを誘発しやすい。 「能動性に驚く」は、外目の形に一切囚われず、本人の中に能動性が現れた奇跡に驚く。現れないのがデフォルトだから、もし現れなければなんとも言わない。ただ、祈るような気持で待っていると、ふとした拍子に能動性が現れる。その奇跡に驚くと、能動性が生まれる確率がどうしたわけか高まる。 それは恐らく、人間は「驚かす」のが大好きだからだろう。自分の能動性で驚く人が入ることに気がついたとき、嬉しいから能動性が発生しやすくなる。 でも基本、「驚く」のは待ちの状態。待たずに引っ張り上げようとしたら、それは能動性ではなく受動性になってしまう。”
