Sonic Mood Board
"Coming out of January, I would like to focus on Productivity, Self Love, and Emotional Release -- with flair! Why not showcase some foreign experimental music, with some slight indie, old school Hip Hop, and RnB mixed in? Our first sonic mood board of the year starts off chill and ends with expressive intensity. "

My good mans Skyla is a well known and loved artist who started his own grip tape company a few years ago. Every fire skater I know has his grip tape on their board. His work is sold in shops across the city, the nation and the world. Super proud of this guy and looking forward to checking out his workshop soon. Find out more @hootiehoogrip on Instagram

Iconic breakfast and lunch spot in DC, "Smokey's" on 14th was first introduced to me as a community staple by my friend Naomi during the pandemic. The food is so satisfying, it was worth driving nearly 30 mins into the city for each time. After my first few visits, the owner and chef Maylin recognized me by my order, and from there we became fast friends. I have so much love and respect for this place, and can't wait to tell the full story of Smokey's, and how they built an everlasting bond in the community.

I met Yanni while shooting bts for a friend in the same warehouse where she makes rugs in New York City. Her work stood out to me as creative, original, colorful and feminine. Her business is affordable and black-owned... y'all know what to do! Inquire about her Valentine's collection and for custom rugs @ twelve.92
Yanni is an absolute doll and a joy to be around. In our first, brief, interaction she spoke life over me and my business. She's a naturally supportive person and reinforces the feeling of community love. It was a great pleasure meeting her, and receiving the privilege to take photos of her gorgeous rugs, which I will share over the following weeks.

Yesus, the hat king.
3 months ago I came to NYC to assist my boy Marvel open a weekend of sold out Kaytranada shows. My first night in the city, I met Yesus, a friend I made on Clubhouse almost a year prior. I heard Yesus was a collector, but at the time I had absolutely no idea how extensive a fitted hat collection could be.
Until I saw his. My first thought? Wow, what a bunch of nerds. I could not believe people were fully immersed into a culture where they "battle" hats like Pokemon cards.
The following day, I learned what a shock drop (?) was and off we went to Hat Club as the first move of the morning. I had no clue what the sizes were r meant, had never bought a fitted hat, but agreed to stand in line and help my friend expand his already massive collections. I was shocked to see the number of people waiting to buy a hat and how serious Hat Club was about the order and logistics of releasing a small, in-store, hat collection.
I went in, went upstairs, said the magic code word, checked out, and left with a 7 3/8 Pittsburgh Pirates Green Eggs and Ham -- whatever that means. That was my first fitted hat purchase.
Since then I have learned a little more about how cool the fitted community actually is. It can be a hobby, a hustle, entertainment, a sport, a creative outlet and a support network. And if you have a collection and streetwear palate like Yesus, you get to wear cool sh*t and stunt on mfs -- daily.
This week, I was blessed with more time and exposure to Yesus, another visit to Hat Club, and an exclusive interview on what it takes to be a viable collector. This and more @bearingsmag
