Learn More About Beacon Candidates Than 20K Yard Signs Can Teach You
Finally, an opportunity to extract some substance from our local political candidates:Â
The Howland Cultural Center, Beacon Deserves Better and Beacon High School Social Studies department are proud to present a
Candidates’ Forum at the Beacon High School auditorium
Wednesday, October 19th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.
The gathering will be an opportunity for Beacon citizens to ask candidates about their ideas and plans for Beacon's future.
Candidates will respond to questions gathered through question boxes located at Main Street businesses. Questions can also be directed to [email protected], or submitted on index cards provided at the auditorium on the night of the event.
Candidates:
8 city council candidates (Wards 1 - 4), two District 16 County Legislative candidates, four At-Large City Council members, two District 18 County Legislative candidates and two Mayoral candidates:
Marlene Fredericks and Diane Spiak-Pisanelli for Ward 1
Charlie Kelly and Pam Seegler for Ward 2
Agnes Compagnone and Ben Giardullo for Ward 3
Thomas Cunningham and Sara Pasti for Ward 4
Joe Galbo, Ali Muhammad, George Mansfield and Justin Riccobono for City Council-at-Large
Ori Brachfeld and Alison MacAvery for County Legislator District 16
John Forman and Jerry Landisi for County Legislator District 18
Randy Casale and Steve Gold for Mayor
The emphasis will be on non-partisan, future-oriented questions about the candidates’ ideas and plans for the City of Beacon. All questions must be directed to the office for which the candidate is running, not to individual candidates. Each candidate for that office will have an opportunity for a timed answer.
It is intended that the questions and answers address ideas and issues and not the record of the other candidate or party. The questions will be selected based on that criteria by a committee consisting of Beacon High School teacher Frank Lofaro, Florence Northcutt of Howland ...
Topics should address the challenges that face Beacon today and into the future. For example, questions concerning economic opportunities for Beacon’s young people; local taxes and spending priorities; economic development; waterfront development; infrastructure conditions; future development; transit/parking issues, etc.
