he’s  inherently  suspicious  by  nature.   maybe  it’s  because  there’s  precedence,  untrustworthy  people  constantly  flitting  in  and  out  of  life,  or  maybe  due  it’s  due  in  part  to  the  monsters  that  malivore  has  been  spitting  out  left  and  right.   whatever  the  reason,  his  brows  narrow  as  arms  cross  defensively  over  his  chest.   “  maybe.  maybe  not. ”   he  keeps  it  vague,  standing  almost  defensively  in  front  of  the  front  door.   he  might  not  have  any  powers,  or  be  of  any  use  when  it  comes  to  keeping  threats  away  from  the  school,  but  hey  —  maybe  they’d  get  a  30  second  head  start,  in  the  least.  “  don’t  take  this  the  wrong  way,  i’m  not  trying  to  be  rude,  but  —  who’s  asking  ? ”

cosmic awareness is rather  . . .  boring despite being useful. she can tell he doesn’t have an expiration date but that’s only unusual because even vampires have one. they aren’t some soulless creature as literature writers would like to believe even if they should have different outcomes opposed to humans and other creatures. “excuse me?” yolanda’s almost appalled. today’s youth, she thinks to herself. “yolanda yelnats,” while she might not use a last name often she usually always has one on hand. “i’d extend my hand but i’m something of a germaphobe. i however am a librarian. should i be someone else? i thought this school was seeking one.” 

“No, I‘ve never met a reaper. How could you keep something like that from me?” Piper demanded of the woman. “I thought we were becoming friends, Yolanda.” Piper felt betrayed but she realized how hypocritical she sounded. It’s not like she had been very forthcoming about the fact that she was a witch. 

“I’ve met Death. Hell, I’ve been Death before.” She admitted. “But I didn’t realize he had others to do his bidding as well.” She explained. 

yolanda snorts with amusement. “yeah, how should i of brought that up?” she wonders, clearly sarcastic, “my name is yolanda and i’m Death’s bitch. i guess that works.” there is a small, and she means very very small, part of her that’s wondered what it would be like to be something else. to live, to experience, to love . . . but that question never lingers enough for her to seek out whatever possibility could be flung her way. no, she’s just bored. 

go figure. someone like a charmed one would probably know Death by name. maybe they catch a hockey game together or get together for cookouts. “he can’t be everywhere. he’s not God.” though she’s often wondered more so if God was real but she didn’t really care all that much because even if he were, it’s not like God gave a shit about reapers or even death. he’d probably spew some shit about how it’s necessary. “you can be mad at me all you like for not telling you what i am but it’s not like you’ve been straight forward yourself. toot my horn when you’re done tooting yours.” 

        “for fucks sake, no one REALLY could die here. WHY are people so gung-ho to put an arrow through the skull?”

she had pressed the trigger but that’s putting it lightly. “oops. trigger’s loose.” yolanda declared before tossing the crossbow into someone’s lap. without an arrow attached there’s not much more of a risk. her eyes, however, look to eri. “what brings you around these parts, sis?” for the lack of a better term, sis or sister works for what they were. tools or weapons of Death himself. never thought more, never thought less. “we’re just having some fun.”

like all storms there is no warning when the gusts of wind occur in a closed room. no sudden electric sense as the lights flicker. the latest body is dead but that’s not what angers her as she sends the vampire flying back into a wall, appearing to him what most humans see. her jaw clenches and the tension building inside of her? does nothing to dissipate. “i’ll deal with you in a minute.” it’s not the soul’s fault she had to reap it but the vampire’s. her attention falls upon the vampire now and she sighs.

“i was in tahiti you fuck face.” and her annoyance doesn’t die unlike his victims.

“You know what? I just can’t believe you would do this behind my back. I thought I could trust you!” Piper exclaimed in disbelief, resting her head in her hands for a moment before looking up.

it’s not her fault. they had been talking and walking, and they had walked directly into a crime scene. she had a soul to reap - the soul pacing back and forth, panicked and wheezing, only to realize he’s dead when yolanda finds his dead body. the guy, like always, loses his shit but her attention falls upon the woman. she forgot why they had started talking in the first place but it’s probably because dead, and those returned from it, have a certain smell and light to them. maybe yolanda had questions and she wanted answers if the dead give them.

“you’ve never met a reaper before? i highly doubt it. you reek of death and misfortune.”

        he R E M E M B E R E D. Not that he WANTED to or had a desire for it to stick; incineration and then having to say goodbye to the people you loved, well that wasn’t exactly the happiest death but it had been something worthwhile because trying to do the BEST for the people that mattered  — it was worth it. He remembers her face because it was the first one he saw. The one that guided him to peace, to saying goodbye to Elena and reuniting with Lexi. A Reaper, he’d only briefly heard of their species. In some ways he felt bad that they had such a hard job to do; sure, it was easy in some ways but seeing the pain of souls  — it couldn’t always be EASY. “ you uh, probably don’t remember me. ”

you’d be amazed with what she can remember and that’s saying something. she can’t remember when she came to be but when you reap souls for a living, who cares right? there have been many and even though she might not remember all the names, she remembers things about them. their souls light up when she comes near. HAVEN’T I REAPED YOU BEFORE? this soul, his name was lost upon her, but she remembered his death more so. a heroic death, dying not just for those he loves but an entire town’s worth of souls. maybe even two or three towns worth of souls. deaths like those? those are a rush. she had held a soft spot for him, saving her usual antics for someone else. yolanda doesn’t remember his name but she remembers feeling his soul. a vampire, a ripper, turned human. so much death and yet the soul was better than half the souls in this city combined. he was a good man.

“oh you’d be surprised what i remember about a soul i reaped.” and sure, souls have escaped before but never hers. she’d hear stories of souls getting free or some witch bringing them back but never hers. “romeo should’ve been my soul to reap but instead i got mercutio. the guy thought he was god’s gift to women. yuck.” a sigh follows before shrugging it away. “you died a hero’s death and this is what you get?” she tisks. “have you decided if you’re happy with it or not? i’m sure it’s strange, finding peace and getting it ripped away.”

it got violent fast. believe it or not it wasn’t because she was bored or had time to kill. the guy was on something and boy was he sure something. she’s about to smash his face in with a fire extinguisher but SURPRISE! the canister floats away. “are you fucking kidding me?” she snaps and barely dodge’s the guy’s incoming fist now.

“oh excuse me!” her voice sounds posh and out of place, “could you point me in the direction of the headmaster? i do believe this is a school is it not?” 

she can feel it. she can feel him. FAMINE. it’s been a long time since horsemen were around and she can only remember the amount of souls she had to reap because of them last time. “i’m surprised you’re still here, famine.” yolanda doesn’t miss a chance to be blunt. her head tilts. she can smell it on him  -  the stench of rotten food. “did you pick a body that can’t leave?” for a moment she sounds as if she’s a parent or teacher scolding a child. which came first? reapers or the the horsemen? it’s an old age question without an answer because yolanda doesn’t know. or maybe she simply doesn’t remember.

if you have to live a boring and dull existence, you can either be dull and bored or you can evolve . . . and that’s what yolanda had done. the souls had already passed away  --  something about a gas leak or blah blah blah but yolanda had made them see that they were living out their final moments in some action packed scene and she’s either a spectator or a villain but that hasn’t been disclosed yet and it looks like it won’t be. 

she sighs dramatically almost as soon as she feels his presence. alistair is there and her mood falls. “are you here to spoil the fun? it was getting good.”

“what do you think?” she wonders, arms out stretched as if to give him a better look. “i call it i’m only pretending to be a librarian so don’t get any ideas. the innocent guises always get the gears going.” it would be best equated to PLAYING WITH YOUR FOOD. 

       “ i’m not  — it’s just a paintball gun,” for the simple fact that with anything else he was more liable to shoot himself in the foot L I T E R A L L Y. Although he did offer a cautious smile, something usually reserved for situations where he felt like he couldn’t work a person out or they had a certain VIBE about them. It was almost like he could small the death they’d been surrounded by  — it wasn’t an uncommon occurrence; some people had just lost more but this…was new (then again he hadn’t exactly met a reaper before).

she gave a lazy smirk at his words. yolanda kept a safe distance but that means nothing at the moment. he was cornered by her and a gun of her own. “you’re at a paintball obstacle course. i kind of doubted it would be a semi automatic.” is this a case of I CAN’T SHOOT YOU, YOU’RE A GIRL? man she hoped not. “i can give you a choice. two in the shin or one in the foot.” yolanda declared giving the gun she held aimed at him just a tad. “what will it be?” she knows what he is. death has a way of finding you when you’re a banshee (   THOUGH IF SHE REMEMBERS CORRECTLY, MOST BANSHEES ARE FEMALE   ). that’s not to say why she cornered him of all people. he just happened to be near as he ran through the course. that and call her curious. that’s not something she is often.
