Thank you again Michael Sheen. This is why Aziraphale wanted to bring Crowley to heaven. Because he literally thought Crowley was the best of them. But therein lies the age old tragedy of their (lack of) communication. Aziraphale thinks there is no difference between angel Crowley and Demon Crowley, but there is a fundamental difference to Crowley himself

Wait WHAT. Wait a minute. It’s the complete role reversal from season 2. Aziraphale always insisting that there was no us, there was just angels and Demons, and Crowley was the one that wanted to fuck all of that and just be an us with Aziraphale. Literally in the same episode we had drunk and depressed Crowley in an alley not giving a flying fig about the world because he lost Aziraphale. And Aziraphale literally abandoning whickber Street and Crowley to ruin to lead heaven. Like clearly we were meant to have 6 episodes and all that but. It’s just such a huge character journey for them to make since literally less than an hour of episode time ago. I guess it’s sort of like the first season swap?? kind of poetic. In a doesn’t-really-make-sense-but-the-plot-said-so tragic sort of way. Which is basically the whole episode. WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE A COMEDY, NOT A TRAGEDY

I shall jump straight to the point: people online did NOT seem pleased with Aziraphale and Crowley's last kiss. However, unlike them, i believe this was a deeply meaningful, touching and romantic moment for us to see and i thought I'd give my two cents about it too.

For starters: this was an APOLOGY kiss. That's right people, not a simple "I love you" or "I like you back" kiss but a PROPER apology kiss. Aziraphale reaches for it first, it's the first thing that comes to his mind when he realizes this might actually just be the last time they ever get to see each other. He wants to start over, do it better, and in order to do that he needs Crowley's forgiveness for everything that has happened in the past few years for things to finally be RIGHT.

He also touches his lips the same way he did when he first got kissed by Crowley at the end of season 2, except this time he does it to "give it back". It simbolizes Crowley's feelings being reciprocated, a tender act of apology for not kissing him back the first time but finally doing it right this time. He no longer thinks of that touch to his lips with sorrow or hatred or confusion, but rather as an answer, as something beautiful, as the love he's always felt but could never find the courage to openly reciprocate until now.

As for a possible additional meaning, here in Europe a kiss given by the fingertips can symbolize many things. One of them is "farewell" (and given the context of this scene i might add this kiss was the perfect choice), it's a sign of respect and profound admiration, it's a tender act to say goodbye in a polite and innocent way: it's pure, just like them.

Additionally, in my country, a kiss by the fingertips is most commonly known as a religious act, a sign of devotion and adoration done to the feet of sacred statues and holy sculptures; it symbolizes complete submission to our deepest love for the holy and to surrender to the greatness of the saint we behold, to give them our complete and undoubted faith.

it's loyal, It's devoted and faithful, It's endlessly filled with love and respect, it's playful and innocent but also clever and bold: it represents Aziraphale PERFECTLY. ❤️

i believe we were very lucky to be able to see the different ways these two characters express their love for one another, we get to see how Crowley expresses his love through a kiss and we get to see how Aziraphale does it in his own way. They both come straight from the heart, both dripping with need and affection and love, but each in their own, unique ways.

If you want to imagine Aziraphale and Crowley still out there somewhere as an angel and a demon--God only said She'd create a universe the way they asked for; She never said it was the only one She'd create. Maybe they're also still in the bookshop, writing their universe back into existence. Maybe She also put everything back how it was, like she first offered, and they're an angel and a demon doing shenanigans on an Earth that's connected to Heaven and Hell by a giant elevator.

If you want that for them, you can make that happen, in your fic or art or your own private imagination. The Good Omens universe doesn't have a God anymore, and your free will is as good as anybody else's.

And in the universe of my free will? It would be an awfully contrived coincidence if, after 18 billion years, Aziraphale and Crowley just happened to reoccur and reunite in our time, and I don't believ ein cheesy coincidences. So it happened a bunch of times.

The first time a proton and a neutron came together to make an atomic nucleus? Them.

When two atoms bumped into each other and stuck to make the first molecule, also them.

First time some hydrogen atoms and an oxygen atom found each other and made water? You know that was them.

When bits of space dust started being pulled together by their own gravity, into an accretion disk that eventually compacted into a sphere and became a planet called Earth? They were in there somewhere.

When amino acids did a little dance and somehow ended up making a new thing called life, they were there.
