it’s something about the aggressively obvious 2020s makeup too on everyone in every movie no matter what the time period is. it’s the 19th century they do not have highlight!!!!
look at meg march in 1994 vs 2019. they both look great! however! emma watson is wearing very obvious lipstick, mascara, concealer under eyes heavy foundation etc etc. you can see this at a glance. i literally in making this comparison had to google if this was a promotional image that she took or actually a still from the movie because her makeup just looks like normal 2019 makeup that a girl from 2019 would wear!!! (not to mention her costume. different post.) then look at trini alvarado on the other left. obviously she’s wearing tons of makeup because she’s in a movie and she has tons of lights on her all the time but it doesn’t look she is!! you can see circles under her eyes!! she doesn’t have The Shine to her face that emma watson does. she looks so much more believable as a girl from the 1860s not because she’s a perfect representation but simply because she does not Obviously Have On Modern Makeup

Let me be completely clear - I’m not being a sarcastic ass. I’m just realizing all over again, in real time, for myself, that reading a real life published book makes your neurons feel like they’re getting a spa day. Like I can feel my brain getting juicer and wrinklier with every page I turn. This shit is no joke, this is like hard drugs if hard drugs were good for you and made your brain feel revived and alive.
I started reading again last year after not making time to read for over a year before that and oh boy. It was such a struggle at first but the more I persisted, the easier it got and it genuinely started rewiring my brain and replacing most of my screentime. I recently bought myself an old cheap Kindle off of eBay, jailbroke it, and now I reach for my Kindle first thing in the morning instead of my phone. It's beautiful, I love books.
If anyone in this thread wants to get started reading more but doesn't have the time/energy/ability rn, start with audiobooks like I did:
• The app LibriVox (both iOS and Android) has thousands of free audiobooks for public domain works (with entirely human volunteer voice actors!!!).
• There's also the library app Libby (iOS + Android), which has numerous audiobook (as well as regular books) you can check out for free (+ you can sign up for a digital library card if you don't have a regular card!!).
• I also highly recommend the app Evie (Android only unfortunately)—its an entirely free to use text-to-speech app that can read whatever non-DRM epubs/pdfs you put in it, and it runs on donations. The devs are great, the app works amazing, and it has tons of settings to fine-tune your reading.
• If you generally wanna read on-the-go, you cannot beat ReadEra (iOS + Android🥳). Another entirely free, donations based project that lets you upload and organize epubs/pdfs/whatever and read them directly in the app. (It might also have a text-to-speech option available 👀 tho I don't remember 100%) One of my fave reading apps ever, just so well-rounded.
• (secret 5th thing: Consider going on places like Free Media Heck Yeah on Reddit. Look around. Read their guides. Peruse their book resources. Exercise common sense, open your heart up to love, and trust me.)
Again, I love books <3333 please consider reading books and giving your brain the nutrients it craves
last week i woke up from one of the most fucked up nightmares ive ever had with that middle panel burned into my brain. like the exact wording and the exact apartment and the exact squidward. i feel like if i didnt make it real something bad wouldve happened. anyway todays upload is spunchbob comic oc

mom just came in my room said here have some weed and dropped a big ol bag of weed on my bed. where's that one tweet where somebody's mom brought them fruit I wanna compare
I went to a residential facility a few years ago for eating disorder treatment and it really helped because while I was there I had this really intense sapphic forbidden love affair with a hot lesbian patient that really helped me get through it and now every time I'm considering relapse I'm like "you can't go back to treatment, there's not gonna be another hot lesbian. that was a one time thing." has worked pretty well so far!

By the way, you can improve your executive function. You can literally build it like a muscle.
Yes, even if you're neurodivergent. I don't have ADHD, but it is allegedly a thing with ADHD as well. And I am autistic, and after a bunch of nerve damage (severe enough that I was basically housebound for 6 months), I had to completely rebuild my ability to get my brain to Do Things from what felt like nearly scratch.
This is specifically from ADDitude magazine, so written specifically for ADHD (and while focused in large part on kids, also definitely includes adults and adult activities):
Executive functioning skills range from working memory to cognitive flexibility to inhibitory control, and beyond. They power our daily func
Here's a link on this for autism (though as an editor wow did that title need an editor lol):
Practical Strategies for Enhancing Executive Functioning Difficulties in Adults With Autism - Living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as
Resources on this aren't great because they're mainly aimed at neurotypical therapists or parents of neurdivergent children. There's worksheets you can do that help a lot too or thought work you can do to sort of build the neuro-infrastructure for tasks.
But a lot of the stuff is just like. fun. Pulling from both the first article and my own experience:
Play games or video games where you have to make a lot of decisions. Literally go make a ton of picrews or do online dress-up dolls if you like. It helped me.
Art, especially forms of art that require patience, planning ahead, or in contrast improvisation
Listening to longform storytelling without visuals, e.g. just listening regularly to audiobooks or narrative podcasts, etc.
Meditation
Martial arts
Sports in general
Board games like chess or Catan (I actually found a big list of what board games are good for building what executive functioning skills here)
Woodworking
Cooking
If you're bad at time management play games or video games with a bunch of timers
Things can be easier. You might always have a disability around this (I certainly always will), but it can be easier. You do not have to be this stuck forever.
In light of The Situation happening right now in the USA, I highly recommend retreating from social media as much as possible and immersing in real life to clean out the gunk of social media type activism
Try as best as you can to track down some old retired folks who have been doing the activism thing for decades. And just old retired folks who care about anything, anything at all.
This crap with labeling the generations and talking like "boomers" are this way and "gen Z" is that way, it's silly to the point of being dangerous.
Younger generations in USA kind of reject the whole thing about respecting and valuing your elders but the truth is, all different kinds of cultures have these values and they're right. Elders have more knowledge and understanding than you can ever find written down anywhere.
And they WANT and NEED young people to connect with them. Elders are suffering more from our society of isolation than anybody else. And they are energized and invigorated by having young people to share their knowledge, information, and stories with.
So often I have been in a room of people majority over 65, wondering where all the "politically aware" gen Z are. And the answer is, they're on social media, arguing with strangers and stressing themselves out, while the "boomers" are getting shit done.
Social media isolates young activists from the most experienced and knowledgeable of all. And it's a dangerous trap for people of all ages who feel lonely and afraid. Either radicalizing them into hateful ideology and cult-style groups, or convincing them of apathy and pointlessness.
go outside, find the elders that know everything, get shit done. This is my advice
I will add this, if you are social media savvy and are put off by the boomers orgs terrible communication : OFFER THEM HELP ON THAT FRONT.
Sometimes the most knowledgeble fauna enthousiasts can speak for hours about habitats and conservation efforts but can't tell an open agenda public event from their own personal calendar ! Helping older orgs have better communication tools is a really good way to direct public attention to the local real life events !
It's not enough to say "it's easy, just use x y or z service", because it's easy to YOU but to someone even a bit older that can save them tons of time putting an event together, and means a lot for folks looking at the event to know exactly what they can expect !
My go-to list for community event planning under the cut (be warned that I'm very french so most of my tools will reflect that)
A fixed event page that will be the sole online place where updates will be made. Can be facebook, can be Openagenda if your org has an account with them, or even framagenda.
Event page should be concise and clear. WHAT is going to happen (you have no idea how many flyers I have seen that don't explain what an even is even doing), WHO is organising, WHEN and where is it taking place, for HOW LONG, FOR WHOM is the event for, WHAT should the public bring (clothes, tools), and is there any ACCESSIBILITY accomodations or concerns (a late night walk in the woods can be fine for a visually impaired person, but probably isn't the best idea for parents with strollers or people with mobility issues)
It's not mandatory but in some situations (limited place etc) it is good to have a tool for people to sign up. For the love of every thing that is holy please use an open tool and not a google one !! I use framaform to collect a name for the inscription (doesn't have to be an actual name/surname), the number of people in this group, if there are kids and how many, and one email adress to send updates to.
Also copy/paste the most important informations about the event in the form + in the confirmation mail.
If you use a form to make attendees sign up PLEASE RESPECT THE RGPD : tell folks who is getting their infos, why they're going to be used, for how long, and who/where to contact if they don't want said infos to be kept. Not just because it's mandatory, but because I feel like it's good étiquette to tell people what's going on with their data.
JSMUST BECAUSE THERE IS A SIGN UP ONLINE FORM DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T TAKE SIGN UP THOUGH MAIL. Lots of folk can be confused by that medium. Don't be dicks, and add them to the list even if they didn't exactly follow the steps.
Always link to the event page when you talk about it on diverse platforms. Keep a note of where you've shared it, so if there are really major updates (date, cancelation, full) you can update them, but minor changes should stay on the fixed event page
Have a contact email fully visible on the event page for questions, and always sign your answers "X, for Y organisation" if you don't have an email with them.
HAVE PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION MEDIA. You don't need expensive good quality paper flyers. Get a Creative Commons licenced picture on wikimedia commons, slap the most important infos on it in a serif-free font with a background for better readability, put the link to the event (you can use a QR Code if you have a trusted generator) AND the contact mail, print it on recycled paper and voilà !
Don't keeo communication online. Go to your local businesses to ask if they can put it in their window. Target shops or businesses with different age groups publics. Go to elder homes, pubs, tattoo parlors, bakeries, liquor stores, libraries (they will probably be thrilled and sometimes offer to print more for you !), driving schools, groceries stores, vets, doctors, schools... You must be prepared to face a few No, but usually people are interested in spreading local events !
After the event, ask attendees if they'd like to be informed of future ones, keep the contact of those who want it, and don't be afraid to ask if they'd like to get involved in concrete organisations too !
I hope it wasn't too much of a derailing wreck, but I recently started helping and working with local orgs and everyone was so thankful that I took those parts in charge because most of them are not comfortable with computers and were at a loss about what to do to spread their events, while it all felt completely natural for me. Being chronically online can be an advantage if you use it to make real life actions gain momentum !
I can't drive unless I move to europe or madagascar or somethin because my left side is my good side and that's why beautiful women love driving me around
Knowing full well that no media outlet is covering what is happening in Armenia, here are some updates for those who wish to stay informed:
For the past three weeks, azerbaijani forces have been firing at Armenian cross-border villages. Although no injuries have been reported, the gunfire has damaged residential homes. On the night of April 13, azerbaijani forces opened fire on the Armenian village of Khnatsakh in the Syunik Province, damaging the local Cultural Center.
The Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States has approved two final commitments totaling more than $339 million to support aircraft exports to azerbaijani Silk Way West Airlines, which has been implicated in transferring weapons from israel to azerbaijan, and its cargo flights from israel’s ovda airbase to azerbaijan have notably increased, particularly in 2024, aligning with periods of heightened military activity by the azerbaijani regime. This follows a long-standing pattern, where Silk Way’s flights to israel have consistently risen during times of military escalation by the azerbaijani government, particularly during conflicts with Armenia and Artsakh. Since 2016, israel has been a key military supplier to azerbaijan, and ovda serves as a crucial airfield for this transfer of military materials.
While the US and israel are aiding and arming azeris, Hungary has blocked the EU from allocating an additional 10 million euros ($11 million) in “non-lethal” military aid to Armenia through its European Peace Facility (EPF). Unlike other EU member states, Hungary has openly supported azerbaijan in the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) conflict. The Hungarian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that support three days after the outbreak of the 2020 Armenian-azerbaijani war in Artsakh.

las vegas is a special kind of horrifying compared to the rest of the southwest because you get three different flavors of horror all together. there’s the strip, obviously, the hypnosis of the casinos. you know they intentionally don’t put clocks in casinos? and they put mirrors wherever they can? they’re trying to disorient you so you stay inside. they’re trying to trap you. and the casinos are different but they’re all the same underneath, slots and shows and roulette wheels, the same bones in different bodies. but then you get outside the strip and you’re in the suburbs. it’s flat. barely anything outside the strip is more than two, maybe three storeys. everything is in a strip mall. the houses are identical wherever you go. even the schools - there are two major architectural blueprints for high schools in las vegas. if you’ve been inside one school you can navigate them all. it’s all the same and it’s all normal, in defiance of the neon of the strip. (you can see the beacon from the luxor from anywhere in the city, you can always find your way to the strip, but- is that better, than being somewhere that you know? somewhere that’s the same wherever you go?) and then of course if you step too far outside you’re in the desert. much further and you’re in the mountains. the suburbs are creeping out further and further, taking over, but there will always be desert. summer will always be 120 degrees. there will always be heat and scorpions on the edges and no matter how far you push out you will not be able to build on the mountains. no matter how hard you try the desert will find you. and none of these things are mutually exclusive, not as much as you think. there are slot machines in grocery stores. there are houses behind casinos. there is undeveloped desert in the center of everything, reminding you that the desert was not built to hold you, the desert was not built for this, you should not be here. you shouldn’t be here.
this one’s going around again so i wanna shout out the person who correctly determined what part of vegas i lived in based on minor details in this post
Dudes healthcare is so fake. My ADHD meds are $940 without insurance. But they gave me a website of "coupons" which straight up looks like a scam website, and I got it today for $60! Just a coupon from a random website and it was $900 cheaper. America, I am confusion!! America explain!!
as a pharmacy technician i can share with you some websites that give you those "coupons" for your meds!
goodrx is the most well known one, but if i'm trying to find the cheapest price for a patient i compare it to scriptcycle, and use whichever is offering the best price. you just type in the medication (PLEASE make sure you're getting the right drug, dosage, and quantity) and your zip code and they will spit out some offers for you
some pharmacies may have their own discount card to compare to as well!
if you are getting a name brand medication, you can also look at the manufacturer's website to see if they offer any evouchers for you to use too
