So here is my inaugural post on this sandwich music hybrid blog! I apologize for the delay in getting it off the ground. I’m currently in the midst of moving and have been doing a lot of couch crashing with friends in the interim so sandwich making opportunities have been scant! That said, though, I really wanted to get this going so I decided to kick things off with an old tried and true favorite: The PB&J — toasted, of course (toasted sourdough bread is prrrrrobably the best thing in the world?). I put Chipotle Kettle chips in it as well to spice things up a bit.
When I was in elementary school my mom would pack me lunches and if it wasn’t a toasted PB&J, I would not eat it in protest because apparently I was a little brat. It’s one of the simplest things you can make, but also one of the tastiest, in my opinion — nothing to write home about, but being as I barely have a mailing address right now, it’ll have to do!
Going back to my elementary school roots here also takes me back to where I grew up: western Massachusetts. Which is also where Northampton’s And The Kids resides — a band that I am completely enamored with at the moment. Immediately, comparisons to more contemporary acts like Mitski, Mothers or Miya Folick come to mind but there’s more going on here. Where this song starts and where this song ends are two wildly different places and it’s a joy to listen to. It’s hard not to smile when the chorus first kicks in and the vocal interplay that builds to the end of the song is fantastic — the rest of the record doesn’t disappoint either. The band has a new song over on Stereogum right now.
