The Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire - weighing 3465 grams - consists of eight gem- and pearl embellished plates (connected by hinges) to form the octagon of the crown. Four plates are adorned with enameled pictorial representations from the Old Testament and four plates are adorned by gems and pearls in vertical versions; all refer to ideas of heavenly Jerusalem. The twelve large gems on the front part of the crown and similar ones on the opposite side symbolise the twelve apostles and the tribes of Israel and the sons of Jacob. In the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
