Marianela Nunez and Thiago Soares in Diamonds, part of Jewels, The Royal Ballet, London, December 2013. Š Dave Morgan.
Nunez is so vividly present and fearless in technique that she doesnât need Soaresâ support, though she loves his presence. At the end of his demanding solo, Soares grinned in pleasure when his multiple pirouettes succeeded: Nunez could take hers for granted, like her assured balances in arabesque.

I think i have found the right part of ballet tumblr. Nice blog.
iâm not sure how old this message is, but thank you. i donât post much anymore but i do like to interject on the bullshit once in awhile haha
isn't a reason that they don't go to ABT more because of the balenchine technique? I mean, of course the russian dancers would outshine the americans, but they do value their own style a lot, don't they?
Yes, true. Youâre right.
ABTâs desire to preserve their own traditions and style could be a reason why they donât invite Russian-trained dancers to join them all too often.
Thank you for making me realize this (:
abt isnât even balanchine lmfao

Why don't any BBA or VBA dancers go to the ABT. The salary is probably better than the Bolshoi's and their technique and body would definetly outshine the crappy typical North Americans' (compared to the russians)
How about Maria Kochetkova, Diana Vishneva, Polina Semionova and Ilya Kolotov? Or do you mean joining ABT right after graduation? (then Ilya kinda fits your criteria)
Well, Iâm neither a VBA or a BBA graduate myself, so I canât give you the right answer. I can only make assumptions, such as:
1. A major Russian company is way more prestigious than any other company in the world, letâs keep it real.
2. ABT doesnât invite them. Maybe, because they - just like you - understand that Russian dancers, for the main part, would outshine the âlocally producedâ ones? Idk. Ballet is often also a political tool, so having a bunch of Russians in a major American company is just a no-no.
EDIT:

Glad to know the Russian elitism on ballet Tumblr is raging as hard as ever yikes
It seemed preordained that Robert Fairchild would one day play Jerry Mulligan, the World War II vet and expat artist portrayed by Gene Kelly in the 1951 film An American in Paris. âWithout Gene Kelly, I wouldnât be dancing,â says Fairchild, a principal at New York City Ballet. âIn Singinâ in the Rainâmy God, heâs incredible. I saw An American in Paris later on, and itâs the same magic.â Onstage, Fairchildâwho started out doing jazz and tap before following his sister to ballet classâstrongly calls to mind the Hollywood legend. âHeâs handsome, slightly cheeky,â and has a ânonchalant, casual ease,â says Christopher Wheeldon
Beautiful!
all these little black ballerinas make my heart melt
