Look at that discount!
What value! You're not even necessarily invested in the game, but the premise of 30β¬ worth of game for 5β¬ is tantalizing. It might not be the right time in your life for this particular game to be played, but surely sometime in the future this investment will pay dividends. Especially those games on your wish list, got to make room for other upcoming releases.
After a couple of years following this mentality, while perpetually awaiting that "right time", I've realized this is counterintuitive to the relationship I wish to have with video games as a medium. My wishlist is seeded with unreleased games that innovate on game design and artistic expression, but the will to play them once they're released and purchased is precarious. More often than not they fall short in favour of other games bought under the fervour of seasonal steam sales.
Following this, the mission statements of this blog are as follows:
Incentive to clear out the backlog - By putting my shameful habit on display, (perceived) public scrutiny will compel me to right my wrongdoings.
Practice journalistic expression - The urge to talk about games, art, and games as art is ever present in me. Managing this blog is an exercise in expressing these thoughts coherently.
Keeping a "video game diary" - Recording both first and reflected impressions of my encounters with different games will prove valuable to me in the future.
This blog is intended as a video game journal/diary of various games I intend to play. Posts will typically, but not exclusively, cover <10 hour gameplay experiences through first impressions between play sessions and longer reflections upon completion. These posts are not reviews, but more so expressions of love for a form of media I hold in very high regard.
