One of the most important rooms in the house is the living room. This is where the family gathers in the evening to watch a movie or the latest football game and this is where friends are welcomed in the home as well. So it is very important to have a great place that is cozy, homey and fabulous looking at the same time. Here are some tips to help you improve the room decor of the space.

First of all you need to make sure that your living room has an actual theme going for itself. Whether it is modern and contemporary, or traditional, or even rustic, it needs to have a particular theme that contains the basis for the room decor. Also the room needs to have a good focal point which is the first thing one sees when entering the room. If you have a great looking table lamp or a Feng Shui fountain or a gorgeous object of art, you need it properly illuminated and displayed. Also the surrounding furniture should emphasize it and not take away from its grandeur.

The furniture arrangement must be laid out in a way that nothing is too scattered apart of too squeezed together. There should be plenty of walking space between the furniture pieces for a proper interaction. Also the furniture needs to be purchased based on the size and layout of the room. If your room is very small, you can't go with oversized library shelves that go from wall to wall.

The same applies to lighting. If you have a small room, adding a huge chandelier would be a big mistake. You need to have the right size illumination fixtures relative to the size of the room.
