At the beginning of Strider and Degtyarev’s friendship, they fought a mutant off together, and Deggy took a surprise picture of him. Degtyarev showed him the photo, saying “you look cool while being all bloody” as a compliment. Strider stared at the picture, then down at his bloody hands in shame. Deggy noticed immediately, asking what was wrong, and Strider told him how he felt like a killing machine because of the monolith, and saw that vision on the photo. He told Deggy that he didn’t want to murder anyone anymore, which Degtyarev found ridiculous and impossible, since Strider lives in the ZONE, he technically has to. After that, Deggy told Strider that he would need to mantain a tough reputation if he wanted to stay respected in the Zone, not turn all soft in front of others. But next to Degs, he could be himself. Then, they made mental notes to themselves;

Degtyarev noted that Strider was a secret sweetheart.

Strider noted that Degtyarev was a safe space to be open next to.
