“It’s a Kevlar weave,” Batgirlstarted with, but she didn’t look down at her own suit, instead, she waslooking in the eye slots of the young man’s own suit. “I didn’t make it myself…I made my first one though,” she admitted, but her voice was low as she took astep forward and then looked him over. “How old are you?” She asked abruptly, “Andwhy is your suit a onesie?” Admittedly,she dressed up like a bat when she went out to fight crime, but at least shewore real shoes. “Is it spandex? Doesn’tit like… ride up?”

Kara could hear the quickening thud of Barbara’s heart in that anxious flutter it always made whenever she was about to ask a question, because Babs always had questions. Between Lena Luthor and Barbara Gordon, it was as if all creativity and curiosity in the universe had been poured into the two humans that Kara cared about most. Kara tilted her head and gave her best friend a sad smile when she finally asked the question that Kara knew was coming. Except for the few that had accidentally found out about the power ring, Kara hadn’t told anyone about becoming a Red Lantern or why she’d made a sudden departure from Earth. She hated to think what Babs would say at the realization that rage had consumed the always sunny Kara Danvers. That would only be eclipsed when Babs realized that Kara hadn’t had any intentions of surviving her trip to space. “What do you know about the Lantern Corps?” she finally asked.

When Kara had first gone missing, Babs had freaked out – but convinced herself that nothing could have happened to Kara. She was Supergirl and if that hero title wasn’t enough, she was Kara Danvers. And she was brilliant even without the suit. She was more than capable of taking care of herself. At least, that is what Babs told herself over and over so that she didn’t worry about all of her friends that had made their way to New York. Between Dinah and Kara though? Babs was going to go gray early. “I know a little about the Green Lanterns but not a lot,” Babs said quietly. She wanted to think that maybe Kara had been offered a position with them (was that how it even worked?) but she had a feeling that Kara didn’t ghost because she was given a higher responsibility, and she wouldn’t be talking about it like it were some dark secret either.

The look on Barbara’s face… The woman hadn’t even considered that Dinah might use her gifts on her. The Batgirl was just as vulnerable as anyone else, all because of some notion that things hadn’t changed between them. So hopelessly naive. Dinah whistled a little tune, the air passing her lips a small threat of what could happen at the drop of a hat. “You just can’t stand the idea that I no longer fit into your perfect little vision of what I should be.”

Babs tried to keep the stoic look on her face, tried not to let Dinah make her question if she was doing something wrong by worrying about her. But at least, when Dinah whistled, she didn’t flinch. Small blessings. “I’m all for big changes even if I don’t change anything myself… I’m just worried,” Babs confessed. “You’ve been sober a long time and now you’re not. What happened?”

Batgirl had made another appearance on the television and, in proper Batgirl fashion, it wasn’t the most flattering coverage. Her heart sunk as she looked at the few images that showed up on the screen but she forced a smile to her face when she looked at her uncle. If she outright defended Batgirl then they’d probably devolve into a huge argument and while Babs hated the idea of her uncle not approving of Batgirl... she couldn’t be too defensive. “Well, I for one, would rather her be in danger than you,” Babs said with a shrug. But there was something hidden there, in her words, just underneath. I would rather take the bullet than you.

Batgirl looked at the woman next to her, her head tipped to the side as she blinked. She had been simply doing rounds when she ran into her – there had been an increase in activity that appeared to be mob activity but for the most part… it seemed quiet. So there was no harm with some friendly conversation, right? And Batgirl had always found the strangest friends when she was wearing the mask, maybe this woman would be another? “It’s a Kevlar weave and no -- I didn’t make this one myself. The first suit? Yeah,” Batgirl said with a smirk, but it slowly faded into a slightly more serious face, “You’re not thinking of making one yourself, are you?” After her conversation with Lois about the drugs that were giving people superpowers, she was worried that there would be an uptick in reckless heroes as well as criminals. 

“No, I went with a fake name and I told him I was a waitress.” Lois was relieved when the woman took the card, finally someone was going to do something and she could worry about the city a bit less. “I did wrote about him a while back, I didn’t gave the name of his drug or used his name, in the article I basically said that we don’t need superpowers to make a difference. If he didn’t came after me till now I don’t think he will now.” She answered.

“Good,” Batgirl said with a nod of her head. That was one less thing she had to worry about... or at least she thought so until Lois said she had written an article. Lois might have left the details out of who had sold her the drugs or the name -- but Batgirl hadn’t heard of any other drugs with this sort of potency. There was no way they missed it in the paper. But Batgirl smiled all the same and nodded her head, “We don’t need powers,” she agreed. Batgirl didn’t, Lois didn’t -- a lot of real heroes didn’t. “I’ll look into this,” she reassured Lois. “But be careful. Experience has taught me that people like that don’t always react right away -- ” Batgirl cut herself off. She didn’t want to cause Lois any unwarranted paranoia. “Just... be careful.”

“You have clearly never tried to eat only three slices of Joe’s Pizza,” Kara said, floating in through the window and then shooting Babs a wide grin. She’d missed this; in all her time away, she’d missed the companions that she’d left behind. There was a weightlessness and lifelessness about floating through space. There was a beautiful to it, yes, but with it came a certain sense of loneliness akin to the years spent in suspended animation in the Phantom Zone. Years spent in a place where time didn’t pass and her heart grew cold, the coldness of space consuming her from the inside out. It had been the people of Earth that had thawed her frozen heart (and given her a love for Disney).

She opened the box of still-steaming pizza and handed her friend a slice. It had been some time since she’d seen Barbara, but they had kept in touch and Kara knew that Babs was always watching out for her. Kara couldn’t help but smile fondly at the other woman. “I’ve missed you,” she admitted. Her time away had been difficult, but she had to face some battles alone.

Babs nodded her head with a smirk, she had no idea what Joe’s Pizza was, but if Kara was speaking highly of it, and given the massive amount of food her friend could put away, it had to be at least halfway decent. “Well, you clearly haven’t had a -- ” she glanced at the clock again and squinted, “2AM meal with Kara Danvers. Because she puts away food like no other,” she teased. Kara and Babs had kept in touch... but then one day the phone calls stopped getting returned and the texts messages weren’t even getting to the read stage. Kara was just... she was gone and Babs had no idea where to. It was like what happened with Dinah but worse because Babs couldn’t hack space. And that was where Babs assumed Kara had gone. 

Accepting the slice, Babs took her first bite and her eyes went wide for a moment before she nodded her head. “I missed you too,” Babs said, returning the smile but it dropped quickly. A look of concern on her face as she looked over Kara. There was a moment of insecurity -- was it okay to ask? To press? Babs had been worried. Maybe wait for Kara to take a bite of pizza so she could think of her answer. “What happened?” 

Selina missed the spending time at the mansion. Not only did she enjoy Bruce’s company but she loved being around the children. In the time she had been with Bruce, Selina had gotten close to Babs, Cass, and Stephanie in particular. They all needed another girl around the house and Selina was happy to be a mentor of sorts for them. So when she heard Babs was back in town, she went shopping immediately. The guest room was Barbara Gordon ready with splashes of purple everywhere. There existed a possibility Babs wouldn’t be there permanently especially with a certain birdie in town as well but she wanted her to know that this was also her home. Upon hearing Barbara’s voice at the door, Selina smiled widely and rushed to open it. “Hey, you! Wow. You must have grown a whole two inches.” She was teasing of course since Bruce’s kids had a tendency of calling her the mom of the house. “Hungry? Here, let me take your bag.”

The smile on her face brightened when she saw Selina -- and quickly dropped at the height comment. “Yeah, yeah, laugh it up!” It reminded her of the jokes from back when a police officer was at the top of her dream career list. They acted as though it were like Storm Troopers with height requirements. But hearing Selina’s voice relaxed her in a way that was just impossible to describe. It made New York feel like home. The world was a little less scary knowing she had family in this city. Handing over her overnight bag, Babs let out a small sigh, a ‘you don’t have to do this but I’m not going to argue with you’ sort of sigh. The expression didn’t last of course, mainly because being mothered by Selina wasn’t a bad thing at all. She sort of missed that constant connection -- not that she was ready to admit that. “I am starving,” Babs said as she stepped into the apartment and wrapping an arm around Selina, giving her a small hug. “Thanks for this.” 

Zee was still focused on the bizarre titles on the wall. Is this what it was to be one of those hipsters? It’s just tea…  

And then she was pulled by her thoughts when she heard a voice for sore eyes. Just one of her favorite redheads! She turned quickly and smiled widely at her old friend (and teammate). “Babs!” She flipped her hair over her shoulder and fluttered her lashes. “That would be me!” She instantly threw her arms around her the other and then faced the board once more, her arm still snaked around her friend’s middle. “I like that choice. I’m going with the White flower blueberry. Are we hipsters yet?”

It felt like only a few days ago she was telling Kon that she had barely seen anyone she recognized -- and now she had reconnected with Dick (kind of at least) and met up Selina, Harley -- and now Zee. Babs returned the hug instantly, the smile on her face feeling more comfortable with each passing moment. “I missed you!” Babs looked up at the menu again when Zee spoke. White flower blueberry. What even was that flavor? “You know... I think we turned into hipsters the moment we walked in. We have to start telling people we did things before they were cool -- it’s a law or something, I’m sure.”

He flinched at how loud she was talking. Not only was this a library, but he never really enjoyed loud sounds as it was. The circus was always so loud. The sounds of music mixing with crowds, animals going off in their cages, children squealing. It was always a lot of noice, and since he stepped away from it, he wanted nothing to do with it. If he could lock himself away, hide from everyone, he would. At least then, he’d be safe. He could practically feel his twin’s rage from where ever he was now. Would Jerome come after him? He moved to grab some of the fallen books on the ground and shook his head. “Sorry- Babs… I don’t really do nicknames.” He said before licking his lips. “I was planning on doing back to my dorm room for lunch… why?” 

He flinched and Babs was immediately regretful. She hadn’t meant to disturb the entire room... but given the way Jeremiah had reacted, she figured there were probably ten other people in the room, rolling their eyes at the sound of her voice. ‘Sorry’ she mouthed before looking around the room. It didn’t seem like they had grabbed anyone’s attention. Which was good -- less embarrassing for her and it would, hopefully, keep Jeremiah at ease. “I know you don’t,” Babs said with a short chuckle -- careful to keep herself from getting too loud again. “Otherwise I would Miah? No -- that doesn’t really fit you... I’ll come around to one, something warm,” Babs said with a small shrug. Even if she did figure one out for him, what were the chances he’d let her call him anything other than Jeremiah? “Eat with me instead,” she said. “We can... eat outside? Get some fresh air? Talk math?” Babs offered, holding up the calculus book in her hand for him to see. 

Well, it wouldn’t be impossible for Bruce to agree in giving him a utility belt, or at least just one with a rope like that. He normally just used his powers, never had any kind of equipment, but one that could allow him to wrap the unconscious criminals, would come in handy a lot. “Maybe he will, I could always try and ask him, won’t harm,” he was already helping him with his fighting skills by training him, maybe he would also not mind giving him a belt like that. He supposed he would only find out if he asked him. “Really? Maybe is just because you just got here, you will slowly run into familiar faces, it’s a big city, there is that too, so you don’t immediately run into people that easily.”

That was true, things to them were never easy, there were always something to complicate things, and make things harder for them. “That’s a good point,” he admitted, even then, he wouldn’t change his life for anything, it was who he was meant to be, who he was. “Seems perfect, it’s always the best place to get in.”

Kon might not have had the bat symbol on his chest, but he was family. And that was something she doubted Bruce would be able to ignore. He might frown and garner himself another wrinkle on his forehead, but Babs was sure that he’d give Kon something. “You’re right, no harm in asking,” she said, smiling as she nodded her head. “Yeah, and I figure that’s partially my fault, between moving, finding a job, and this,” Babs said, waving towards the tied up men, “I haven’t had a lot of time to drop in on the old team. We should do something normal next time -- coffee maybe?” 

Zatanna finished signing her contracts with MSG and stepped outside of the arena with a wide grin on her face. She had missed New York and the normalcy it had brought her (if you want to call it that). Tired of traveling between dimensions, the young sorceress was ready to calm things down for a bit with some herbal tea and biscuits. She had already purchased several gifts for Pamela and Harley and every few minutes, she got a brilliant idea for another. The Amazon equivalent in other dimensions was certainly better than here. First stop? The tea shop in Soho she had warmed up to. She couldn’t wait to see the faces of those she had missed. Mainly Sofia. Once she arrived at the shop, she tapped her chin as she appraised the many flavors. “Which do you suggest? There’s so much to choose one?” She didn’t even glance over to the person behind her online. Zatanna figured it was a good way to meet new people.

Babs was on her way back to the library and figured she would stop in and get something to drink for the last part of her day – a little pick me up to help with the afternoon slump. Glancing upwards when she heard what she swore was a familiar voice, she blinked before a smile broke onto her face. “Zatanna?” Babs said as she slipped her phone into her pocket, and gave her full attention to the woman in front of her. “I saw posters for a magic show -- pretty sure your face was on them,” Babs said casually, “I was going to ambush you tomorrow night.” Babs wasn’t sure if she was going to bring a gift or anything -- but she had thought about a more dramatic version of ‘hey I knew you were in town’ moment. “But rose hip tea -- that’s what I’m going to get at least.” 

“She’s a-mei-zingly annoying!” Clint replied, trying very hard not to smile at her Mei impression. “I can take down an ice wall in ten seconds, but it’s that futzing freeze! Nothing’s worse than getting in the perfect position to pick off a support and then bam! Dòng zhù! Bùxǔ zǒu! Frozen in place until that little gremlin comes up and ice-picks you in the head!” He scrubbed a hand over his face and let out a laugh. “Tell me about it. I almost threw my entire computer out the window after that match. I had my finger on the uninstall button, I swear.” 

“I think you mean a-mei-zingly versatile, more than Hanzo at the very least!” The might have been rivals on Overwatch, but Batgirl was smiling all the same... though perhaps her smile was a bit smug. “Well, you know the best way to not get frozen like that? Don’t get caught in the storm. And she is not a gremlin! If anything is it’s that hamster. Hammond? No one plays him well. No one.” Batgirl laughed and nodded her head, “It was honestly embarrassing. I don’t know if both teams were playing really well or if we were all so tilted that we just kept throwing the last part of the map.” 

Dinah wasn’t sure what to make of Jenna Kovach as the new head of Fish Mooney’s empire, but her goals seemed to remain the same – get rid of Jeremiah Valeska. So Dinah found herself still living at Vortex and carrying out her new boss’s commands. When a certain bat was stirring up trouble for the new boss, Dinah took the chance with pleasure. “I could wake you up, or I could sing you a little lullaby,” she said with a wink. Babs new exactly how powerful Dinah’s cry could be, and that was when Dinah had used so much restraint in the past. Now that she’d loosened up, the ginger wouldn’t know what hit her if Dinah decided to unleash a canary cry. “You just had to ruin the fun, didn’t you Babs? Couldn’t let me have too much of a good thing?”

A lullaby. Babs reached up and put a finger on her ear without thinking -- but she quickly pulled her hand away and looked Dinah in the eyes. She didn’t have earplugs or anything to dampen the canary cry.... so here was to hoping that Dinah didn’t use it on her. “Ruin the fun? I always thought I brought a little something extra,” she quipped. “You’ve had too much of several things... not all of them good.” Babs wasn’t sure if there was anything good that Dinah had indulged in, but she did know about the trail of bodies -- but even that didn’t worry her as much as the drinking. 

“I didn’t had a choice, I went in as I client, those kind of people tend not to talk with a journalist, it was an injection and it wasn’t something you could take home with you, so I gav him my arm.” She knew it was dangerous to let strangers inject weird things on her body however she knew there was a good history there and Lois was going to do what was necessary. Reaching at her pockets Lois got a card. “It has his adress, be careful, if he can give superpowers who knows what else he can do.” She warned.

Batgirl nodded her head along with what Lois was saying. It all made sense -- it was just incredibly dangerous. Lois had gone in as a client and had to sell that until the very end. “Does he know who you are now?” Batgirl was sure that Lois could take care of herself, but it might be worth mentioning if this drug dealer knew Lois’s real name. Accepting the card from Lois, Batgirl nodded her head and looked at the card, the address was in Hell’s Kitchen. “I will be,” Batgirl assured her, flashing her a confident smile before slipping the card into a pocket on her utility belt. Batgirl was about to leave and investigate this further, but she stopped and glanced at Lois again. “He has no reason to come after you, right?”
