Rwde: Weiss interacting with Adam was a missed opportunity because he could have served as further development for Weiss seeing how the Schnee Dust Company created a monster.

yeah, and that included what "out of nowhere" in a sense that it wasn't even known whether anyone but pyrrha (and cardin, i guess) knew jaune cheated his way into beacon, a V1 plot point brought all the way into V8. if they can do that with such a long period of time in between, why not for something from previous volume?

not to mention that ruby did her everything to save penny, the entire plan to save the people of atlas stemmed from that, just to learn that penny had died after ruby fell with jaune playing a role in it ("why couldn't he save her, with his semblance?" would be ruby's thought process) + ruby losing penny's sword, the last remaining thing she had of her friend, just for it to. . . never really come up? save learning about it to off-screen and don't bring it during ruby lashing out because "too out of character" even tho it's something that would have absolutely been on her mind.

Jaune acts like an obnoxious player to Weiss? She's not mad wrong to be mad.

Jaune acts like a shithead to Pyrrha when she offers to help train him? She's not mad.

Jaune acts like a shithead to Neptune over Weiss? He's not mad.

Jaune fails to keep an eye on the only entrance to the vault, leading to Pyrrha's death? Nobody's mad.

Jaune melts down Pyrrha's only remaining effects to add to his weapons and armor? Nobody's mad.

Jaune gets Ruby knocked out and Weiss grievously wounded because he started a fight he couldn't win and kept at it? Nobody's mad.

Jaune physically assaults Oscar because he was mad at Ozpin? Oscar's not mad.

Ren's not even allowed to be mad at anything in Volume 8. Sure, Yang gets bitchy, but it's only a serious problem once he snaps at Jaune.

Jaune literally stabs Penny Polendina to death? Ruby's not mad.

A lot of people have noticed a pattern in RWBY: male villains die, while female villains live and get redeemed. Many chalk this up to the writers being man-haters. That's unlikely, considering that all but one of RWBY's writers are men. What seems more plausible to me is that this pattern in RWBY stems from a fear that something in their series is going to be controversial and be called misogynistic: Cinder's death.

Miles has said that the plan was for there to be no empathy for Cinder despite her sad backstory- that they want everyone to hate her and to want her to get what they have planned for her. Meanwhile, we're expected to empathize with Cinder's abuser Salem (according to Miles), who the writers don't see as pure evil. With that in mind, some are predicting that Cinder's death will be the most brutal one in the series. Some women in the fandom (and a few men) have voiced some concerns about how violent Cinder's fate will be. I personally don't like the idea of the most abused woman in the show getting a death that plays out like a sadistic spectacle, and if they overdo the violence with her, RWBY will become a show I can't feel comfortable rewatching. Maybe this theory is wrong and Cinder will get a balanced RWBY death. But the truth of the matter is only the writers know for sure what's going to happen to Cinder, and it's likely that they've known it from the beginning and anticipated some backlash to the severity of what's going to happen to their most abused female character.

Why must Cinder be written so evil and die horribly? Because sex sells, because the plan is to redeem Salem, or some combination of both? The writers probably don't think we can handle both of these characters getting redeemed, so the plan is to justify Salem's redemption by sending Penny and Pyrrha's killer to the slaughter for the audience.

Although I think Cinder's death is meant to be edgy, I don't think the writers want to be accused of misogyny for what they do to her. So how does a group of male writers decide to make up for the fact that that they've intentionally selected an abused woman to be over-the-top evil just so she can die the most horrible death for audience satisfaction? They overcorrect by making sure almost all male villains are killed and by saving most female villains (Illia, Emerald, Neo, Salem). That way, anyone who says Cinder's death pandered to the fetishization of female pain can be shut down with "But most male villains were killed off and most female villains survived!"

I still think there's hope for Mercury Black's survival though. I think the plan is to let him be the one male villain that gets to live.

One - she could've been nuanced in that she GENUINELY believed in Ambessa and the direction things were going only to die horribly for it. It was already set up, just follow through without the unnecessary betrayal of Caitlyn crap.

Two - Caitlyn is her superior and if Caitlyn was a male character hooking up with Maddie, way more people would be acknowledging that Caitlyn took advantage of her power and position. It seriously grossed me out watching the first time because are we really supposed to be like "oh, what a homewrecker" instead of going "what the hell, Caitlyn, more abuse of power!?"

Three - you can't tell me Caitlyn didn't deserve to be betrayed whether Maddie was a spy or not. It could've been a situation where Maddie WAS taken advantage by Caitlyn and was in a position where she knew she couldn't say no (Caitlyn is the heiress/head of a powerful house, got multiple major and undeserved promotions, and IS HER SUPERIOR). Then Ambessa manipulated her further and BAM, Maddie betrays Caitlyn.

And? Caitlyn was a dictator who (intentionally or not) created a militant state that effected both Topsiders and Zaunites.

"Maddie got with Caitlyn!" / "Maddie got in the way of CaitVi!"

So? It goes both ways. Caitlyn got with Maddie. We don't know how their relationship started, but Caitlyn is in a much higher position of authority compared to Maddie and had the power to keep tabs on Vi. She didn't and instead chose to sleep with her subordinate. That's on Cait, not my girl.

Why would she? Cait was ready to kill Jinx and you guys don't care—why should we care that Maddie was okay with killing an enemy? Because let's face it Cait isn't Maddie's actual ally. Maddie's loyalty lies with Ambessa. Personally, I like that she's happy to follow orders. Makes her interesting.

Cait is still Maddie's superior. The power imbalance is very much there, not to mention the way she treats Maddie outside of their affair. Imagine if instead of being a 'traitor that weasled herself into Caitlyn's bed to gain her trust', Maddie was just an innocent young officer who was manipulated and used by her boss. It just makes Caitlyn look way worse, which she is, because she didn't know Maddie was a spy, so in her eyes, the difference in status didn't matter.

The writers needed somone else to be the scapegoat while Cailtyn did her thing and everyone was already against Maddie because she 'got in the way of Caitvi', which is not true by the way, Caitvi was always going to be cannon. Personally, I think it's ridiculous, but I've seen it happen time and time again in fandoms, so I'm honesty not surprised.

Strengh is Vi's greatest asset. It's what she uses to protect the people she cares about because in a place like Zaun, they have to utilize everything they have to survive. Vi by far, has the most fight scenes, but none of them are her acting on her temper and inflicting senseless violence. Throwing punches is not her knee-jerk reaction. Even during her first fight scene, where mind you, she's only 15, Vi only swings first because she knows her family is in danger.

Someone will come and argue that her fight with Sevika is her acting on emotions because she does literally knee her in the face, but it is still very much an equal fight. She doesn't strike when Sevika is down. Basic fighting etiquette still applies despite her personal feelings. The reason she searches for Sevika in the first place is because she wants information about Powder. Vi and Sevika are narrative foils (at least in season 1), Sevika stands in the way of all Vi is trying to achieve. Them clashing is not just out of Vi's want for revenge and the anger she holds.

Vi hitting Powder is the only non purposeful act of violence Vi inflicts, and it's only when she's faced with a very traumatic event.

When looking at both seasons as a whole, the contrast doesn't work, because who is the person who's shown prone to going to extremes, reacting with anger and violence as a response to being called out and opposed? Or just displaying unnecessary, unapologetic violence?

(Even though portraying Caitlyn as violent by the show is also a mischaracterization on writers part)

Why does he never get to interact with the Firelights, his people, in any meaningful way? The plot thread of his tree being infected by the arcane is completely dropped. That was his home.That was the place in which he found refuge and safety for himself and everyone close to him. The tree was also symbolic in that it represented hope for the Undercity. Something beautiful, organic, and life-giving can grow and thrive, even amongst the rubble and poison. And that was Ekko to me - a beacon of light for everyone who was oppressed under both shimmer and Piltover, and one of the only people willing to fight back against one of his own because he felt that they were causing more bad than good. He also didn't need Hextech or shimmer to manufacture his inventions. If the writers really wanted to bridge the gap between magic and tech, Piltover and Undercity, Ekko was right there, but instead he got relegated to his LoL ability.
