Ladies Not Admitted Edward Linley Sambourne (1844β1910) Sambourne House
The caption continues, "Very sorry, Miss Minerva, but perhaps you are not aware that this is a monastic establishment." ["The lady students of the Universities have received a cruel series of rebuffs within the last few days. On Tuesday week the Congregation of the University of Oxford refused to admit them to the BA degree. On Tuesday last it followed up this blow by rejecting all the resolutions proposed as alternatives. Yesterday the Cambridge Senate inflicted the unkindest cut of all by practically imitating the ungallant example of Oxford." Times, March 13, 1896.]
As Patricia Marks writes, "Minerva, with her classic draperies, her books, and her caged owl seems a real symbol of knowledge left out in the cold" (113). The subject must have been one after Linley Sambourne's own heart: his wife Marion was an accomplished woman, who had spent three years in Brussels studying French, German and music, and they had a daughter as well as a son (see Robbins et al. 13). Notice Minerva's spectacles!

why do so many males sincerely believe not getting laid is a human rights violation
Because it's the one area of their lives where women have some degree of power over them. They don't face discrimination for being male in employment, housing, socially, or any other aspect of their lives. The scenario women are most likely able to deny men something they want is with sex.

Thereβs much better ways to process through sexual trauma, and none of them happen on a bed.

I'm sorry but vaccines are so fucking cool. You're telling me that I just need to drop by my doctor, feel a pinprick, maaaybe feel a bit off for a day and then I have statistically significant, incredible chances of either completely avoiding getting a certain illness or at the very least have a pretty string guarantee my body will kick its ass swiftly??? Fucking magic potion.

While JJ Jameson in the MCU (and Sony games) as an expy of Alex Jones (a timely reference that surely will stand the test of time) was pretty funny, I think it kinda stands as part of how the MCU kind of flattens characters and stuff because nuance takes up time?
Like how in some of the comics, JJJ is depicted as being pretty much in the right about most issues (anti-racism, pro-mutant rights etc.) EXCEPT Spider-Man (this being a left over thing from how he used to be an investigative journalist who did stories on the KKK, so he has a justified suspicion of people who wear masks for this reason). For this reason, when Peter reveals his identity to him MOST of the time JJJ gets it and shifts to supporting him.
The thing with Alex Jones though is that the hateful things he says are primarily a grift to bilk people into buying body wipes that boost testosterone or something, and that while gullible (and occasionally dangerous) people believe him the things he says are obviously untrue. So with this context, framing JJJ as an Alex Jones-ish crank podcaster/radio personality dismisses any nuance as it just underlines him as being entertainingly wrong?
Similarly in the Winter Soldier, which is a good thriller movie, but part of the plot involves Steve examining his place in the world and within the US government now he understands more of the wider context of the world he inhabits (40s!Steve not being privy to the shady things the Allies had to do to beat fascism, such IRL things like the Manhattan Project and, within the context of the MCU, the experimentation on African American soldiers to create or replicate Steve's Super-Soldier Serum).
The question the movie seems to be asking is, can Steve Rogers remain the unambigous hero figure he was in the Second World War if he's complicit by association in the various heinous acts the US government does on a frequent basis...
...Only for Armin Zola to basically explain that every shady thing that the US government has done from the mid-20th century onwards was the result of literal Nazis infiltrating the American government and manipulating it to do things like the War on Terror and so on.
Steve doesn't have to worry, the bad things he was worried about were done by fascists or people manipulated by fascists to address the world in a certain way (Nick Fury).
...See what I mean by a lack of nuance?
