Over the past few days, a lot of black girls have gone missing around the Washington D.C area.

64,000 black women and girls are currently missing in the U.S. Unfortunately, the media is doing a very poor job at reporting this. When I looked up these girl’s names, I only got about 3-4 articles. We need to do more when it comes to black girls being in danger…..We matter, our fears matter, and there is absolutely no reason this isn’t making national news. The least we can do is trying to spread this information throughout the internet, but the media needs to start heavily picking up on these cases.

Also don’t rub their mistakes in their faces?? Sure, you told them not to eat the cookie because it’s been in the dirt and it’ll taste bad, they eat it anyway and spit it out because they got sand in their mouth, it’s one thing to respond with “see, what did I tell you, silly?” And another thing to respond with “see? Didn’t I tell you? I told you so, and you did it anyway. You never listen to me and now look what happened, dumbass.” All this does is make kids afraid to share their problems with you because they fucked up and they know all you’re gonna do is berate them and make them feel humiliated instead of actually helping them!!!

And dont call their mental illnesses and/or stresses invalid because they dont align with your experiences, or tell them “What do you have to be stressed/depressed about? My life is harder than yours!”

Don’t forget they’re not you, your spouse, siblings, or other child… they are an individual who feels and experiences things differently. They can also process things differently… so constantly comparing them to someone else and making them live in others shadows will do nothing but discourage them and make them insecure.

People aren’t perfect. Children and parents. Just as you aren’t the perfect parent who has all the answers your kid is going to mess up and struggle give them a break from time to time and don’t make them feel as if everything they do is insignificant because they’re not someone else.

They didn’t ask to exist. If you’re constantly telling them, “Well I gotta work all the time to pay for your food and clothes and this apt/house” they’re gonna feel guilty for living.
