AYP Podcast Episode 44: Rolling Stone Top 100: Stevie Wonder
Welcome to your fourth AYP drop on the bounce, and our third with Emily! You jammy rotters, you.
After a bit of a shocker last week, we somehow found it in ourselves to press on with another voyage into unknown territory. Revivifying our Rolling Stone Top 1/500 format, we collectively picked ‘Innervisions’ by Stevie Wonder.
Mr Wonder has always been one of those artists we knew, but didn’t know, y’know? Many a single and best of, but never an actual album. We fixed this live at King Street Studios, with gobfuls of pizza and excellent Cloudwater beers (please send freebies thanks).
Want to know what we thought? Tune in to the episode at Apple Podcasts, Spotify and/or Audioboom.
Want to know what you thought? Listen to the album then. Is that too easy for you? There’s also videos top and bottom, if that’s your thing.
Want us to know what you thought? You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and right here for crying out loud.
Stay safe, gentle listeners, and may your hotel ever be free of naked, scissor-wielding pensioners.
Mike

Episode 43 - Cover Versions!
AYP Podcast Episode 43: One Hit Wonders - The Knack
Look out! It’s another one of those episodes we recorded last year, with guest chatter Emily!
This one stemmed from an underlying desire to revisit our old One Hit Wonder episode, but with a new band. Clearly the memory of that Babylon Zoo album had faded sufficiently for us to think that was a good idea.
The choice of subject matter came fairly easily, a none of us could come up with a single other song by The Knack other than ‘My Sharona’. Thus and so, we settled down to listen to ‘Get The Knack’, resulting in much discussion of classic cover versions, age-inappropriate relationships, and, for some reason, a blind cattle-botherer.
The original tune is at the top there - but, unlike the rest of their catalogue, you already know it, at least due to topical and quasi-amusing “banter” versions about that tricksy ol’ pandemic that’s keeping us all shut in lately.
Of far more interest are the two cover versions at the bottom, both of which are mentioned in the episode. If you like those, you should check out our second post with more tunes, and the excellent work of Chipmunks On 16 Speed.
Speaking of things you should check out, the episode itself is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Audioboom, and we, the lowly creators, ply our sorry trade on Facebook, Twitter and on the ghost ship Tumblr.
We’ll be back next week with more things to distract you from your enforced isolation!
YOU’RE WELCOME.
Mike

Episode 43 - Some Of Emily’s Tunes
AYP Podcast Episode 43: Emily’s Autophonography
Three episodes in two weeks? Hot damn! Well, I hope you’ve all got a lot of time on your hands.
Oh. Yeah. Let’s not dwell on that...
This is a special episode, since we finally made good on our threat promise to wrangle another guest onto the show. Welcome, one and all, former Staffordshire Poet Laureate and half of Rose & Cloud, Emily Rose Galvin!
Not only does she have great taste in music and complex sour beers, she’s also a very entertaining and compelling addition to the team. Listen here as she goes through her Audiophonography and tells us all about her sonic high, lows, history and present. All that, plus some in-depth Spice Girls opinion!
If that sounds good, you can check out the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Audioboom, then hunt us down and tell us what you thought on Facebook, Twitter and here on Tumblr.
Fancy joining in? Message us, and we might invite you along to record with us. Y’know, when it’s safe to leave the house again...
Until then, you’ve got this recording and the following post full of a sample of Emily’s selections, plus maybe more episodes to follow!
Later taters,
Mike

Episode 41 - Some Picks From John
AYP Podcast Episode 41 & 42: Autaudiophonomonography
It’s been a long while since the last set of episodes, but you’ll be relieved to know that we’ve spent that time honing our art to absolute perfection.
Nah, just kidding. In this pair of episodes - recorded way back on Ed Balls Day 2018 - we can’t even get the name of our new episode format right.
It’s AUTOPHONOGRAPHY - like an autobiography, but for music! More accurately, it’s like Desert Island Discs, but more focused on specific moments in the interviewee’s life.
If that’s not clear enough for you, why not give it a listen? Pick your fave supplier from Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or take it straight from the source at AudioBoom.
John and I took the format for a test drive and had a riot while doing it, learning a lot about each other’s music history as well. We’re super keen on getting more people in to tell us about their own stuff too, so why not get in touch if you want to be on the show? We’re on Facebook and Twitter as ever, and this thing called Tumblr that nobody uses anymore since they got rid of all the porn.
You want sample music vids too? Check out the next couple of posts for the treats you crave, without the context you need.
Til later - but hopefully not much later - enjoy!

AYP Podcast Episode 40: Festival Fest 2018 Part 4
Welcome, eager listener, to the final episode of the Festival Fest 2018 (Cancelled) recordings!
Having overrun our four hour (yikes) booking in the back room of The Greyhound, we decamp to our spiritual home - John’s front room. It is here that John makes the exciting decision to not press record on a good portion of the chat. It’s a maverick move, I’m sure you’ll agree, but I’m glad he then followed it up with a more traditional ‘recorded’ recording.
For our last set of four acts, ‘Doctor’ Matt Tyrer suggests the manic pop-rock of The Apples In Stereo; John picks Torres, based on an album he hasn’t yet heard (such a maverick!); I go for the deep ‘n’ doomy collaborative sound of Sunn O))) & Boris; and Gordon rounds us out with much needed ‘tronica in a split set from ASC & dBridge.
Have a click on those links to go to the Bandcamp or Spotify pages for those acts so you can treat your ears to some fine action. Do you eyes feel left out? Well, good news! There are videos down below.
After all that fun, have a good go at the podcast via the links for Audioboom, iTunes and Spotify.
And that’s yer lot! Keep your eyes, ears and oranges peeled for what we do next with this crazy ol’ podcast thing.
Byeee!

AYP Podcast Episode 39: Festival Fest 2018 Part 3
Another episode we have for you - and a juicy one it is indeed!
As you will no doubt infer from the title, we’re once again deep into preparations for our entirely fictional festival of music. We’ve got a location already, we’ve got a brewery lined up for refreshments, and we might even have a man coming out of a hole for your entertainment.
But what of the bands? Hold your damn horses there, cowboy! That’s what the podcast is all about (in theory). In what may be my personal favourite set of chosen acts across the recorded episodes, Gordon finally picks just one band - prog-leaning horror soundtrackers Goblin; Matt brings us Tom ‘No Introduction Necessary’ Waits; John waxes lyrical about frenetic rock oddballs Cardiacs; and I open the floor to the eclectic rap styles of Open Mike Eagle.
If you’d like a tasty musical time, click on those links above to go straight to the relevant Bandcamp / Spotify pages. Alternatively, if vids are more your thing, keep scrolling to the bottom of this post. If you’d like to skip to four idiots in a pub back room chatting about the aforementioned, click here for Audioboom, here for iTunes or here for Spotify.
It’s the last episode next week. Will we get this festival off the ground, and bring the world the greatest musical event it has ever seen?
No. No we will not. Have you even been paying attention? Jesus Christ...
Mike
