βYou still haven't told me how we ended up here again,β Theo asked, gently stroking the back of his hand.
"Brett was angry with me" Liam replied "so angry, at practice he treated me badly, in the locker room he treated me badly and I just... I didn't know what to do except stay silent"
"You shouldn't have stayed silent" was all Theo could comment, having a hard time imagining Liam inert enough not to react.
"A couple of weeks later there was a match and we lost" Liam continued, the lump in his throat evident "it was bad, it was an important match but just... we were unlucky"
"Liam, it could happe-"
"But Brett blamed it on me" Liam interrupted him, crushing his hand.

βYou can come quickly, canβt you?β Theo asks, sitting back slightly. He slides one of his hands into Liamβs shorts to cup his dick. βI bet you missed me while you were away. Did you think about me, when you were trying to sleep?β Liam is panting, and Theo has barely touched him. βDid you ache to touch yourself?β he whispers.
βFuck,β Liam gasps, grinding up against Theoβs hand, using the friction to get himself off. It should disgust Theo, how easily worked up Liam gets. How heβs so unable to control himself. Yet, it doesnβt. In fact, it makes him harder than heβd like to admit, being able to reduce Liam to a writhing mess.
βDid you touch yourself, Liam?β he asks, keeping his voice gentle. βDid you do it in secret, because you just couldnβt help it?β
Liam whines again, straight into his neck. Theo adores this side of him so much it makes him lightheaded. The side of Liam that loses his mind completely as soon as Theo touches him. The side that can only make those addicting little noises, because he doesnβt have the strength for real words anymore.

π What money can't buy (very NSFW)
Liam led him to an old building.
"If you come in here, there's a laundromat," he then said, gesturing to a slightly hidden door on the side "a woman named Kendra works there. If you need to find or... pay girls, ask her. She'll make sure the money really goes to them."
Theo immediately went on the defensive; he could smell a scam from miles away.
One of Liam's friends would probably just beat him to death in there to steal his watch.
"Why are you telling me this?" he asked immediately, suspicious.
"Because at least your dirty money won't end up in the pockets of even dirtier people," Liam replied with such spontaneous obviousness that it seemed impossible not to believe him.
Theo, however, didn't miss the provocation about money.
"You don't..." Theo immediately tried to defend himself.
"Oh, don't come telling me about the blamelessness of people like you," Liam interrupted immediately, accusingly "because of people like you, one person dies every week in this neighborhood."
"How can it be our fault?" Theo asked, outraged "I'm the only one who sets foot in this neighborhood."
Liam, however, looked at him as if he were truly stupid.
"The girl in the photo," he then limited himself to saying, gesturing to the photo he had showed him, "was named Christina, she was 16, and her pimp killed her because she got caught with the senator you want to protect" he then summarized with ruthless lucidity "I know how it works: you protect your people, they protect theirs, and people like her... get crushed in the middle."
Theo was taken aback for a second by the harshness of Liam's words, the ferocity he had already seen in his eyes.
"I didn't kill anyone," was the only thing he could say, the sole, incontrovertible truth.
"No," Liam then confirmed, his tone quiet "you didn't kill anyone."
Theo was sure there was much more to the way he said it.
For some reason, this gave him a rather unpleasant feeling.
"I'll talk to Kendra if you think it... works better this way," he conceded then, taking a stupid step back, acknowledging that if it were true, it would make his job for his father a lot easier.
"Don't think I'm advocating this," Liam was quick to point out, his arms crossed over his chest, "but at least you'll pay the people you really want to bribe"
And there it is again. Bribing.
"I'm not bribing anyone," he found himself saying stupidly.
For a future lawyer, he could definitely do better.
"Money in exchange for illegal favors," Liam replied immediately, raising an eyebrow "that's the definition of corruption."
Theo was tired of being attacked without responding.
"It's not like any of you have ever refused"
Theo would have considered it a point if only Liam's face hadn't twisted in disbelief.
"That's the problem with people like you," he then simply said, shaking his head.
"Oh really?" Theo then asked venomously "I thought it was killing people like you."
"You create problems, solve them with money, knowing that no one here would ever refuse money, and then come and tell us we're greedy, immoral, and ungrateful" Liam spat in his face, his cheeks a little red from the fury "well, guess what? We are, but at least it's because we have to survive, not just because we enjoy watching other people's suffering"
Theo really didn't understand how Liam was still alive with that attitude.
"You know, for someone who's maybe reached freshman year, you seem to have pretty strong opinions," he then simply commented smugly.
"Sixth grade," Liam replied laconically.
"What?" Theo then asked, taken aback by the lack of embarrassment.
"I went to school until sixth grade," Liam repeated, enunciating his words, as if daring him to say something about it.
And Theo could only stare at his irritated face for a moment longer, then at the dilapidated building in front of them, before finding himself chuckling.
This only made the situation worse.
"Am I that funny?" Liam asked angrily.
"No," Theo then shook his head, covering his mouth, incredulous at his own reaction "no, it's just... you're such a smart mouth."
Liam's expression then changed irremediably from angry to confused, as if he'd suddenly grown a second head.
"Fuck, you're... you're so tiring," Theo then admitted again, running a hand through his hair as the absurdity of the situation hit him for the umpteenth time.
π Yellow pills
Liam didn't even respond to that, simply staying close to him as he caressed his back.
Theo couldn't say how long they stayed like that, just cuddled in his truck, but he knew for sure that it was Liam who broke the silence.
"I have to tell you something."
"Well, it seems like the right night," Theo commented, giving him some space to pull away and look at him.
"Remember two weeks ago? When... when you got home early from work and I was arguing with my mother?"
"Of course," Theo then confirmed "in her defense, she wouldn't be mad if you weren't a chronically mes-"
"We weren't arguing about the messy room," Liam confessed, interrupting "we were arguing about you."
Theo felt every muscle in his body suddenly tense.
"Is it because... because I can't stay with you anymore?" he asked only in a small voice, "because I understand, it was supposed to be temporary and-"
"No," Liam interrupted him immediately, taking his face in his hands "no, no, it's not... this is your house now, it's not temporary," he emphasized, looking him in the eyes "it wasn't about you in that sense."
"Okay..." Theo then nodded, swallowing "so... what was it?"
"My mother is... worried about you," Liam replied "yeah, I mean, about the nightmares and the anxiety and... that whole thing"
"You mean the murder and the lab rat?" Theo then asked in a failed attempt to defuse the situation.
"She asked me if maybe it could help you to... talk to someone about it," Liam explained "you know, someone other than me or her like... a psychologist?"
Theo couldn't help but open his mouth, looking a little shocked.
"Yeah, she just suggested I talk to you about it and tell you they'd have no problem paying if it would help you... feel a little better," Liam then admitted, his smell suddenly resembling shame, "and I freaked out"
"What?" Theo asked, suddenly on completely unfamiliar ground "why?"
"Because I didn't want to..." Liam then tried to say, as if expecting a punch "God, I'm so stupid."
"Liam, I don't understand," Theo declared at that point, perhaps for the first time definitely at a loss for direction.
"I didn't want them to do the same thing to you as they did to me," Liam then spat out, his voice a little shaky "like... shoving pills down your throat and call it a solution, while you were going to become..."
Theo was in shock.
"You're my Theo, and I like you so much, and I didn't want you to become..." Liam stammered again, shaking his head "I'm so fucking selfish."
Theo took his time absorbing this avalanche of new information before answering the first thing that came to mind.
"It's not selfish to want to protect me."
"But it is selfish not to let you decide," Liam replied however "my mother didn't want to force you to do anything, she just told me to tell you it was an option, and I yelled at her as if..." he continued, his breath a little out of breath "she apologized so many times for what happened, for the way things went, and she never forced me to do anything I didn't want to do again, but now she wanted to help you, and I just... I stopped her:
"You were just worried about me," Theo repeated again "and now you're telling me, right?"
"You should try," Liam declared at that point, dead serious.
"What?"
"The psychologist, therapy, you should try," Liam repeated, "if it... if it could make your nightmares go away and... you should try."
"And why did you change your mind?" Theo only asked him.
"Because if it was a disaster for me doesn't mean it has to be for you too," Liam replied, resting his forehead against his "but no one will force you to do anything, I promise."
Theo took a moment to consider everything.
"I'll talk to your mother about... this," was all he finally managed to say, "and you'll be there because I trust you with... me."
And he said it with a smile so... so stupid and sweet that even Liam was surprised for a moment before hugging him again, burying his face in his neck and holding him tight.
"-ve you," he then muttered, his mouth pressed against his shoulder.
"What?"
"I love you," Liam repeated again in a small voice, his tone terribly uncertain "I'm sorry... sorry I never told you before."
Theo had no idea words could have such an effect on a human being.
"Nothing... nothing to apologize for," was all he managed to say, holding Liam tighter, placing a kiss on his head.
"I love you too," he then exhaled.
"Even if I'm like this?" Liam asked then.
"I love you because you're like this," Theo corrected, shaking his head slightly.
"That's not fair," Liam protested, "you're biased!"
"Of course I am," Theo confirmed, without the slightest remorse "on your side, forever."
That time, when their lips met, Theo could have sworn the kiss had a new flavor.

βοΈ In sickness (spin-off of what home feels like)
Liam came home that day to find Theo leaning limply against the living room wall, his face pale.
"Theo!" exclaimed only Liam, grabbing him by the elbows just before his knees buckled "Theo, hey, hey"
"Liam..." Theo murmured only, trying to get to his feet, blinking away the dizziness.
"God, you ar-"
"Freezing"
"Burning!" replied Liam, placing the back of his hand on his forehead, feeling the warm skin "Theo, you have a high fever"
"I'm fine," Theo said, shaking his head "I have to go to work, I have to... I have to..."
"Theo," Liam tried to stop him, grabbing him by the shoulders "Theo, you have to go to bed, now."
"I can't," Theo shook his head, his eyes watery.
"What do you mean you can't?" Liam asked, stunned.
Theo was struggling to stand; how was he supposed to drive to the garage and fix cars?
"Help me," Theo replied however, heading for the entrance with renewed energy "Help me, I... I can't find my shoes."
"Hey, Theo, look at me, please," Liam stopped him at that point, placing his hands on his cheeks and forcing him to freeze "you can't go to work like this."
It seemed ridiculous to even have to discuss it.
"I have to," Theo insisted, breaking free of his grip.
"You're sick," Liam followed him with exasperation.
"I'm not," Theo shook his head, losing his balance while still trying to find his shoes.
"Of course you are."
"It doesn't matter," Theo declared, at least not lying."I have to go to work."
"Theo, you don't have to," Liam repeated for the thousandth time "I'm sure Gary will agree"
And Theo seemed ready to retort before a sudden wave of dizziness hit him.
This time, Liam couldn't actually hold him up, merely trying to keep him from falling to the floor until Theo was sitting with his back against the wall.
"Does this look like 'I can work' to you?" Liam asked, crouching down in front of him.
He didn't understand, Theo always seemed so... sane, why would he go to work like that?
"You don't understand," Theo shook his head at that point, slamming it against the wall with a soft thud.
"What?"
"If I stop, everything will collapse," Theo replied, sounding more disheartened than Liam had ever heard him "I... I can't do this... I can't..."
"Theo..."
"I need that money!" Theo exclaimed at that point, making him jump back.
Liam immediately saw the regret in his eyes.
"You..." Theo tried again, his gaze fixed on the floor "everything has gone up, the house, the bills, the food, Liam, I need money if I want you to stay here."
Liam felt that realization crash over him like a cold shower.

just a glimpse into Liam and Theo's life when it's not perfect
"I don't know why I did it," Liam muttered once the car was parked in the driveway.
"What?" Theo asked, confused.
"Coach's car, I don't know why..." Liam tried to explain in a small voice "the fact is, he suspended me after Brett locked me up at the zoo and it just... it wasn't fair and I..."
"You blew up," Theo concluded for him with a sigh.
"I really am a fucking time bomb."
Theo shook his head "you know, I can't pass moral judgment, but I think Stiles still deserves a punch for telling you that."
"Why?" Liam asked in a defeated tone "he was right."
"I'll pretend you're joking just because I don't want to hit you," Theo commented at that point with all the calm he could muster "Liam, you simply have a lower 'anger limit' than others, but that doesn't mean everyone hasn't pushed you to that limit."
"I just wish I hadn't done it," Liam replied, compulsively pinching his arm "yeah, I just wish... I just wish my parents still thought I was just..."
"An angry teen?"
"It was better when it wasn't a... disorder"
At that response, Theo simply took his hand again, pulling it away from his abused arm.
"For you or for them?"
"For everyone," Liam replied, sniffing "I've been to four different psychiatrists in a month, and there were all these... these white rooms with these ugly paintings and people who looked at me like... like I was... and then they looked at my parents, and I just wanted to apologize for being..."
"Liam..."
"They thought I was bipolar at first," Liam ignored him, unable to stop himself "yeah, they... they made me take a lot of tests and exams, and when..."
Liam stopped to catch his breath.
"They asked me if I took any drugs or... anything, and I said I'd never taken anything, that I played lacrosse, and that I wanted... I wanted to go pro," he told him, shaking his hand again "but when they asked my mom..."
"She make you take drug tests?" Theo asked, shocked by the information.

"Lenny?" Theo asked, looking at the boy who was still staring into space.
But before he could even look up, a sharp look pierced the side of his face.
"Depends on who asks," the other boy said simply, his arm tightening even more around Lenny's shoulders.
"Theo," he replied laconically, his eyes returning to the boy.
He wasn't in good shape. His lip was split both above and below, a purple bruise spread across his entire cheekbone, while a small cut ran across his nose, and clear finger marks marked his throat.
But why did they always have to be so heavy-handed? It was becoming difficult to prove any innocence if that was the state they were leaving those boys in.
"And tell me, Theo," the taller boy called for his attention, "are you here for fun or business?"
"Brett," blue eyes finally intervened "yes, it's me."
Theo absorbed the two new pieces of information. Brett and Lenny. His brain immediately registered the names.
"Can we talk in private?" he asked then, turning to the younger man.
"It won't happen," Brett replied promptly, as if it were obvious "speak up or disappear."
Theo couldn't stand the arrogance of those who lived in that filth, much less their strange tendency to mate with each other.
"Maybe he should tell me," he then commented, turning his gaze back to Lenny, who seemed ready to disappear, his eyes downcast.
"You can tell me what you need here," he confirmed without even looking at him.
"Good," Theo then nodded, tired of that stance "I know the police is looking for you, investigating the alleged assault of one of our clients on you"
Lenny's eyes snapped to him, wide "I didn't-"
"And what are you trying to tell us with that?" Brett interrupted.
"I'm saying I'd really appreciate it if you continued to have a short memory," Theo replied, still addressing Lenny even though he didn't seem to have any intention of speaking to him.
"See, Theo... your client really messed up my baby," Brett replied, taking Lennyβs chin and forcing him to lift his head, the marks looking even worse under the yellowish light "I'm sure you can pay him the silence you want."
"How much?" Theo replied, without batting an eye.
"Three zeros should be enough."
"A thousand?" Theo then asked, taking out a check.
They had a blank check and they were asking for a thousand dollars? Theo would never understand that.
"Let's make it three thousand," Brett replied, however, placing a lewd kiss on Lenny's cheek before letting him go "for the trouble."
No one would have given him money for his trouble in dealing with those people.
Theo signed the check before handing it to Lenny, Brett's eager hands closing on it before the boy could even lift his head.
"Three thousand," Theo said only as Brett read the amount.
The check quickly disappeared into his pocket "it's a pleasure doing business with you"
"Just for you, I guess," Theo emphasized, shoving his hands in his pockets, his watch peeking out.

"I've never felt worse," Liam said only, his eyes fixed on the ground, full of tears.
"I can understand that," Theo replied.
"No, you can't!" Liam protested, punching the dashboard "I was there, sitting in a chair with my parents beside me while a psychiatrist explained my condition in detail, told them what to expect and how to manage me, and he handed my mother that stupid prescription and..."
"And they looked at you like they didn't know where to start putting you back together," Theo concluded softly
"Yes..."
"I told you, I can understand it," Theo replied, "at least a little."
"When we got home, we stopped at the pharmacy," Liam continued, his voice shaking "that evening my mother came into my room, placed a pill on my bedside table along with a glass of water, and left. In silence."
"What did they give you?"
"Risperdal"
"I don't know what it is," Theo admitted in an implicit question.
"It's an antipsychotic," Liam replied, nervously playing with a thread on his hoodie "It's usually used for schizophrenia. They're yellow pills."
Theo took his hand, detaching it from the thread, and squeezing his fingers between his.
"The doctor said there were some side effects, but not... not like that," Liam continued, clinging to his hand "I was in bed for days. I was so tired, like I couldn't even move my bones" he then tried to explain, the words struggling to come out "my parents wouldn't talk to me, I'd been expelled from school, Mason didn't know anything, and I was like..."
"A zombie"
Liam simply nodded, finally looking up at him, their hands still clasped together.
"But then the tiredness passed and the nausea and dizziness began, and my muscles..." the beta continued, his voice cracking, the car suddenly feeling so small "it was like I couldn't control my body, the spasms were terrible, and I... I don't know, I just wanted everything... everything..."
"Come here," Theo interrupted, taking his arm, pulling him toward him, helping him over the center console until he was wrapped tightly in his arms, his back against the steering wheel.
"I don't know what's wrong with me," the beta muttered into his shoulder.
He looked so sad.
"There's nothing wrong with you," Theo just reassured him, rocking a little in the seat, trying to calm him "There never was"
π€ When everything is black
Theo simply remained still, concentrating only briefly on his breathing as he looked at him.
Liam forced himself to smile as calmly and naturally as possible.
He hated seeing him like this.
"I fucked up," Theo muttered, tugging guiltily at the blanket.
"It's not true," Liam replied quickly, catching his attention. "It's just a bad situation, but it's not the end of the world."
"Then why does it seem like it?"
"Because for you now it is."
Theo didn't even reply, rubbing his tired eyes.
Liam had to get him out of that bed.
"Hey, Theo," he then called gently, "do you feel like getting up and going to the bathroom for a shower?"
Liam could literally see the panic that filled Theo's eyes at the mere thought.
"I can't," he just shook his head, his voice a little broken "I can't."
"Okay, okay, it's not a problem," Liam reassured him immediately, trying to stay calm "Now, nothing you don't want to do is a problem," he added, resisting the urge to touch him "do you think you can at least brush your teeth?"
Theo sighed twice before giving in with a small nod.
"Okay," Liam then melted. "Okay, shall we go?"
Theo's hand was icy as it closed over his.
Liam helped him to his feet and then led him to the bathroom, slowly, like some kind of wounded animal.
"Here," Liam said simply, handing Theo his toothbrush and a half-squeezed toothpaste. "I'll be back in a minute. Is that okay with you?"
Theo nodded again, his slightly dull green eyes trying hard to avoid the mirror.

"A few months have passed and no one ever suspected anything," Liam found the courage to continue, though his voice was trembling "I used to go to his house when Lori wasn't there and we'd do... stuff"
"Okay, so... everything was okay?"
"Yeah, well, I... thought so," Liam confirmed, sniffing, "but then I messed up."
"How?" Theo then asked, just to encourage him to keep going.
"It was November, we'd just qualified for the championshop, and we were both excited, and we... did it," Liam replied, holding his hand again "I mean, sex, it... it was my first time."
Theo felt a cold shower fall on him.
"Liam..." he muttered, his voice low, "he did something to you tha-"
"No!" Liam interrupted him immediately, looking him in the eye "no, it was nothing like that... he was perfect and patient and he just... he made me feel good"
Theo didn't even realize the sigh of relief that left his mouth.
"And then I said something," Liam continued, his sadness now impossible to hide "I don't even remember what, but I think... I think I said I loved him or something, but I was just..."
"Dizzy," Theo finished for him, seeing that he was struggling to find the word.
"Exactly," Liam confirmed, wiping away a tear, "but he went crazy, he started yelling at me, telling me I didn't understand anything and that what was between us wasn't... it was nothing, that there would never be anything because I was... I don't know, I just remember that I was there, still naked in his bed and he..."
"Liam..."
"He broke my heart," Liam spat out, more tears streaming down his cheeks "I don't even know if I was in love with him, but I just... I don't know why I said that."
Theo really couldn't let Liam believe for another second that he'd done something wrong.
"Liam, I know from experience that's a weird time," he said in the gentlest tone he could muster "do you remember our first time?"
"You haven't spoken for two hours after," Liam simply nodded, sniffling and smiling slightly.
"Yes, and you didn't leave me for a second," Theo emphasized the important part.
In response, Liam finally turned to look at him, giving him the chance to dry his tears.
"Liam, you were a kid who had just had sex for the first time," he then found himself saying, a fierce tenderness scratching his chest "you didn't deserve him to yell at you, no matter what you said."

Theo sighed in response, his body seeming to melt even more under his hands.
He would be okay. Liam clung to that thought with all his strength. Theo would be okay.
They just had to wait for the darkness to pass.
"Can you let me go for a second?" he asked only after a few more minutes, an idea flashing through his mind "then I can cuddle you until tomorrow."
Theo, reluctant, nodded before letting him go.
In response, Liam crouched down in front of him so he could look him in the eye.
"I know you said no shower, but how about a bath?" he then asked, studying his reaction "you can get in the tub and I can wash your hair and freshen you up a bit."
Theo didn't move a single muscle, nothing that could have indicated a reaction; he was paralyzed.
"I know you don't believe me now, but it'll make you feel a lot better being clean."
That finally seemed to convince him, because Theo just gave a small nod.
Liam smiled back.
"Okay, then let's go," he encouraged again, grabbing his hands and pulling him out of bed for the second time in an hour.
Once in the bathroom, Liam simply let him undress slowly, searching for shampoo and body wash that wouldn't irritate his nose too much, the bathrobe that Theo always left in a different place in the bathroom, and a new sponge.
With that done, he returned to the tub only to find Theo sitting in it, staring into space, his arms wrapped around his knees as he shivered from the cold.
He seemed so small. Liam felt his heart creaking.
"Theo..."
"I'm sorry I'm so hard to be with," Theo muttered in a small voice.
Liam just wanted to shake him until he would stop saying stupid things.
What he did instead was crouch down beside the tub.
"You're not," he simply said, gently caressing his cheekbone until Theo turned his head "I just hate seeing you like this."
Theo leaned into his hand, seeking warmth.
He was so beautiful. He didn't seem to be made for feeling like this.
"Can I kiss you?" Liam asked slowly.
Theo nodded immediately.
Liam didn't need to be asked twice, simply placing a chaste kiss on his dry lips, testing his reaction, before kissing him a little harder.

Liam remained silent, his eyes fixed on his hands again, the zoo dead silent around them.
"Liam," Theo then called gently, "why don't you tell me what's happening?"
Liam seemed to think for a moment before answering, "I had a nightmare."
"Okay," Theo then nodded, lightly stroking his knee, "what kind of nightmare?"
"About... about something that happened here."
Theo hummed a bit.
"And what happened here?"
Liam just shook his head. "I can't..."
"You know, I've been wondering for a year what this zoo mean to you," Theo replied, looking around "isn't that something you've brought enough?"
Liam looked up at him, his blue eyes filled with tears.
"Talk to me," Theo then murmured, his voice soft "you deserve to feel better."
Liam seemed to give in to those words, his head falling forward before speaking again.
"Brett," he let out in a breath.
"Okay, Brett," Theo then encouraged.
"He was..." he tried to say before a strangled sound escaped his mouth.
Theo grabbed his hand in response, intertwining their fingers, squeezing tightly.
"He was the captain when I was still at... at my old school, and he made me on the team," Liam continued, struggling to keep his voice steady.
"We fought a lot at first," he continued, starting to play with his fingers, running his thumb over his knuckles "he was him and I... well, I was me, and it was... it was hard to get along."
"It seems believable," Theo replied, a little mesmerized by the soft fingers on his hand.
"But then one day he kissed me," Liam surprised him, stiffening a little "yeah, we were in the locker room and the others had left and we started arguing and it happened, but I... I panicked and ran away."
Theo thought briefly about the fist bump after their first kiss with a wave of affection "Yeah, it sounds like something you could do."
"I wasn't... I'd never even considered that option, and suddenly... suddenly he was a boy."
Theo nodded quietly, not interrupting.
"It took me a few days, but I finally went to him and we... we talked and we both decided that we wanted... we wanted to move forward, but it wasn't... it wasn't something either of us were ready to share."
At that point, Theo began to read the general outline of Liam's story.
"Things usually go badly at this point," he simply commented.
In response, Liam closed his eyes for a second, his breathing quickening.

this dude on youtube is trying to convince me that the "thiam was supposed to kiss but dylan was underage / there was a literal kiss scene in the script" thing was NOT a rumor
like its so funny i could not care less if other people want to believe it that bad but man... its not... its not real.
the fact haydenβs actor is literally only one year younger than codyπ like this rumor never made sense in the first place, ALSO cody literally said that he and dylan would have done it IF it had been in the script
