low-key what fucks me up to most about the opening of the weird route in chapter 5 is the way toriel tries to reach out to kris after they slept through the entire festival. it's obvious that she has no context for the cosmic possession horror they're going through, but whereas in a normal playthrough she scopes things out and investigates quietly because she can tell something is amiss, in snowgrave she defaults to what seems like a very familiar and rehearsed routine to talk kris through a mental health episode.

just... how badly was this kid doing before they met susie if toriel assumes that this is what's going on again. is it so insane she's breaking every rule and letting them roam free until night and throwing caution to the wind and doting on susie too much too fast and weirding her out?? it's the first time in years that her kid's been walking around like they're not just waiting for the best chance to kill themselves, i would literally sob with relief

people getting mad at deltarunes lore heavy meta narrative as if undertale wasnt the exact same thing. there is no universe where its 1 single route contains or communicates what its whole does. it was ALWAYS 1 story told in 3 stories AT LEAST. it was ALWAYS in conversation with the player, it was always self referencial and quirky. if youre the type that wants to zoom through a game and not be "completionist" about it, this simply isnt for you. if you dont want to engage with the writing the most you can, its not for you! if you dont wanna get meta about video game, then play something else!

this is my Grug Too Stupid moment but i miss feeling the grasp on undertale characters, mechanics, dynamics, themes. sure we are still in the trenches fighting for narrachara but for ME personally it all felt so well connected and planned, like a beautiful, intricate web. every piece of information fell into its place in the puzzle, everything left unknown with hints were implied consistently. with deltarune im scared i wont have that.
