in the rwby fandom? blake belladonna. id make a blog for her but she’s the kind of character i’d rather write fanfic for than have interactions with, because id be extremely picky about her. anyway, penny kind of comes easier, and i have more i want to explore with penny wrt tons of interactions. but still. One Day

Every once in a while, when Penny glimpses her reflection -- in a mirror, glass panes, the windows that separate stores from the streets -- and comes to a complete stop. There’s this reaction she has she doesn’t know how to name (another feeling, perhaps? of human likeness?) when she sees her face, when she moves her fingers and sees Reflection!Penny move her own. She tries to name it, but it’s like her comprehension sensors just freeze up, unable to pinpoint an exact definition for what she’s experiencing.

      This expression of human-LIKE empathy from Penny…       It brought a bit of a smile to his face in accompaniment.

     “ No, no… It’s not THAT. I am aware of my        promotion in responsibilities, Penny. ”

      Extending his gloved hand, Ironwood rests it upon Penny’s       shoulder. This is the first time he’s seen her make such an       expression, and, for it to be such a worried one? Well, that       won’t do. He doesn’t need — nor want — Penny worrying       for him and his sake. HE would be fine.

     “ I’m sorry if I somehow concerned you. Admittedly,        I’ve had a lot on my mind, these recent few days. ”

“I see! That is to be expected, sir. The apology is unnecessary.”

Of course he would be busy with the Festival approaching. It makes sense, because after all -- multitasking and feeling emotions all at the same time sounds immensely difficult. She relaxes just a little, content with her understanding of that answer.

Why apologize for something he can’t control -- if she’s concerned or not, for instance? Are apologies not only to be said when an error has been made? That is interesting, and unprecedented.

The hand on her shoulder feels nice, too. It reminds her of how her father does the same thing. She takes it as a gesture of comforting familiarity, even though she is quite often startled with others initiate contact.
