It wasn’t often they could all get together. Izumi was off ruling the Fire Nation, Lu Ten was following in his namesake footsteps and was a general in the army, and Kya was an ambassador Republic City, which usually meant she was off in the other Nations fighting for different causes. In Katara’s mind it was a fancy title for freedom fighting and public health.
But they were all back at the Southern Water Tribe for the festival of lights. A festival that Katara had seen restart from before the war. It had gotten bigger thanks to Katara and Sokka.
Katara and Zuko were old now. Their kids were grown. And living their lives. But they still made time for each other. Zuko and Katara still advised Izumi, less so now that she had years of ruling under her belt. Lu Ten still made time to find them souvenirs and regale them with tales of his time at sea, which Zuko would then top with his own of chasing the avatar. Kya brought them trinkets and nice silks from her travels, and she didn’t complain when Katara asked her to help train the new avatar, a young Southern Water Tribe girl named Korra. She had a lot of talent and needed more than Katara could give with her travels back and forth to the fire nation.
It felt like the time had flown, but she was so happy with how it was spent. She wouldn’t change it for anything.
