It is very canon that Vox is bisexual and we see him directly express sexual attraction to both men (primarily Val but arguably Alastor too) and passively to women (his comments about the backup dancers in his rally in s2e5). It's also very clear that Vox has a lot internalised homophobia about his attraction to men (which likely manifested in life in him turning it into violence but that's a different post) but generally seems very slow to enter romantic relationships.

In life we do not Vincent be close to anyone. Brighter really emphasises Vincent's habit of outsourcing fulfillment to external, mass adoration. We see that from how he is never content with the position he is in and so is always trying to grow his audience but we also see that he's very alone. He literally kicks aside his co-host when he becomes a new anchor and the only person who he has multiple scenes with is his producer that he later murders. Vincent Whittman does not have any strong relationships. It's a quick song obviously, not a full biography but a lot of information is given to the audience through its visuals and I think there is one distinct absence that confirms that Vincent is running solo.

No wedding ring at any point in his life.

Mandatory sidenote: marriage is an amatonormative institution, you do not need to be married in order to be in a long-term, meaningful relationship of any kind, being married does not mean you are in a long-term, meaningful relationship. Marriage is just a form of legal and often religious relationship that can be very fulfilling but is not necessary.

But considering Vincent's time period and how image obsessed he is, it's unusual that he doesn't have a wife. This is a man who changes himself to best fit his positions, someone who stops wearing his glasses for the sake of his image. He cares very much how he is perceived and wants to be idolised. He wants to live that story of success. The 40s and 50s were extremely heteronormative, this was the time of the lavender scare, it would complete the picture perfect life he wants to project, so why no marriage?

Vincent doesn't seem to allow himself to be emotionally close with anyone in any form during his life and he doesn't seem to have interest in romantic relationships.

This is contrasted by Vox in Hell where we see him display romantic attraction towards two people, Alastor and Valentino

Let's examine both of these relationships.

In the disastrous business proposal, we know from Vivziepop's interview that Vox was being sincere in his offer of an equal partnership and that he was being emotionally vulnerable in a way he'd never really allowed himself to be before. Which goes terribly for him.

The outcome is less interesting for this discussion than what proceeds it. Vox says "we've been close for a few years now, right" and later describes them as being friends. From Vox's perspective he and Alastor had been friends for multiple years before he made his proposal--a proposal that many fans have compared to a romantic proposal-- it took him years to get to the point where he wanted to make that move, where he wanted a partnership.

Now, onto Valentino. The iconic

tells us so, so much. Vox and Valentino have been operating as partners for decades. Given Vox's fondness for the ambiguity of the term partners we don't know the timeline on their romantic or sexual relationship but I really want to stress the decades part of their dynamic. The current dynamic Vox and Valentino enjoy took decades to develop.

Valentino is someone who is very free with his sexual attraction and seems to be quite quick with his romantic attraction to (but we need more info about his and Angel Dust's history to be certain about that). Doubtless, the reason Vox is squirrelly about openly calling Valentino his romantic partner now is the internalised homophobia but I don't think that precludes the idea that it took some time for Vox to be romantically interested in Val.

Given the fact that Vox proposed a business partnership to Alastor and then entered into a business partnership with Valentino, I think it's likely that Vox's approach to Valentino was similar to his with Alastor; leading in with a business relationship to develop into something romantic.

In review, in life Vincent had no close emotional relationships with anyone and seemingly never had any romantic partners. In death, Vox has had three close relationships (Alastor, Valentino, and Velvette) and has had romantic feelings for two of three. He knew Alastor and Valentino for 'years' and 'decades' respectively before having a romantic dynamic with them.

Or why "aces can still have sex" is a shitty excuse for shippers to complitely disregard Alastor's identity

This post was inspired by these pictures with Alastor holding a poster with this statement, and me feeling pissed of by it.

(It's not about everyone who enjoys Alastor ships, it's about people who write him as allosexual and throw the "aces can have sex" as an excuse and to make YOU look like an aphobe when you try to address their mischaracterization. If you are an ace and explore your own identity through Alastor, or you are anyone, writing a ship while respecting his asexuality - you are cool)

Haven't re-read this, post can have stupid grammar or/and spelling mistakes and time inconsistencies, it's because english isn't my first language (this is for people who use mistakes in text as a valid reason for disregarding the point entirely).

First of, "aces can still have sex" - valid, and absolutely real statement, aces can do it and enjoy it. But it's not the case for Alastor specifically and i'm going to explain why.

Now, we all know, that Alastor is asexual (possibly aromantic, but that's whole another can of worms that we aren't gonna touch for now). And NO, it's not gonna change in season 3. "but Viv said-"

PLEASE use your eyes and brains to read and UNDERSTAND what she said. She never said anything about Alastor NOT being ace. She said that Alastor DOESN'T KNOW IT yet. Which is the most real ace experience, saying as a fellow ace. But how he can not know it? Easy.

When you're allosexual, any kind, you can understand it easily, because you have many examples of it in media and real life, choose anything you like. But asexuality isn't as visible, and it doesn't come to mind as easily as "am i gay/lesbian/pan/ect". So as ace you just don't understand, what's so appealing other people see in sex. It ranges from "yeah it's kinda nice, but why it's such a big deal" to "it's disgusting, how anyone can do it" (this is why representstion is important, and why Alastor being ace is such a big deal, and why we are fighting for him so much). And you assume one of these things: you are broken and there is something wrong with you; or you are special and this is your superpower; or you just hadn't found the right person yet. The last option is exactly Alastor's case. This is also something Viv has said in the past, that Alastor THINKS that he is a heterosexual, who hasn't found the right woman yet. And now, in season 3 Alastor will get to realisation, that he just doesn't need anyone.

With that out of the way, let's talk why Alastor is specifically sex-repulsed ace.

I'm not going to repeat once again all the arguments about his reactions to Angel's sex jokes, or how he's never anywhere near anything sexual in season 1, you've probably heard it before. Let's talk more about Alastor himself.

1. Touching

Now, we all know and hopefuly we all agree, that Alastor doesn't like when people touch him. This was a trait of his since i believe zoophobia times, where he was known to go to such extremes as breaking his own limbs to avoid being touched. Now, in the show we don't see much of him specifically avoiding touch, but he has expressed few times his annoyance from being touched. So this is prettry much still stands canon. And i believe in season 3 we'll see more of him avoiding physical touch, since he was couched QUITE A LOT while being Vox's captive. However, Alastor is mostly fine with touching people himself, and that's also totally real thing. Saying as someone who also doesn't like random touching, even from close relatives (and friend question mark i don't have friends irl).

And now, what does sexual activity involves? Right, A LOT of touching, everywhere, all the time. And, i guess, there are ways to minimize the touching, some kinky shit probably, there are still more problems.

2. Vulnerability

Alastor is allergic to showing weakness. "But in season 2-" In season 2 he was PLAYING being weak and vulnerable, while still having Vox wrapped around his finger, knowing that Vox won't go too far with him.

And yes, lets address the bed scene in the room, that wasn't "too far" in Alastor's scale. As long as he wasn't involved physically. I'm not downplaying the fucked-uppness of the scene, and not saying that "it's ok" and that nothing bad happened, i'm just saying that this isn't something that would some how mess up Alastor. If anything he was just annoyed and tired. The only moment he got scared was when Vox got up from the bed, but then back to normal, when realised that Vox isn't gonna go physical.

In season 1, however, after being wounded, Alastor hid from everyone, making sure that no one would witness the moment of his fear and defeat. And even then, he very quickly collects himself, switching from being scared to being angry about this whole situation and already looking for solutions. And then, he's hiding the fact that he got hurt, he's trying to look as normal as he can, and even to Rosie he doesn't say that he's still wounded, he says "scars" which implies that he is healed.

Alastor hates to be vulnerable.

And back to the topic, to have sex, you have to expose your most vulnerable parts, and you have to trust your partner not to hurt you, not to take advantage of you.

And Alastor doesn't trust anyone but himself.

So, that being said, i absolutely believe that Alastor is sex-repulsed ace. He may consider it "with the right woman", "one day" as a very-VERY hypothetical scenario, but he most likely will never actually do it.

And as a bonus:

Alastor may be romance-neutral aromantic

Alastor doesn't seek romance with anyone, he isn't suffering from not having a partner, and he is perfectly fine on his own. But he probably wouldn't mind having this kind of relationships and date someone, it's just he doesn't think that anyone is right and good enough for him.
